Man and beast knew what lay ahead. After the war cry. Bitter the grave. The final book in the most historically accurate Arthurian legend trilogy, The Shadow of the King is not just a wrap-up novel, but an engrossing story of its own. Although Britain lies in an uneasy peace, Arthur Pendragon, King of Britain, sets sail for Gaul to defend territories there—leaving his country vulnerable and leaderless. When word comes that the Pendragon has fallen in battle, the powerful Council, headed by Arthur’s power-hungry uncle, threatens to overthrow Gwenhwyfar and her young daughter. Gwenhwyfar is also opposed by Arthur’s ambitious ex-wife Winifred, keen to advance her own son as rightful heir. But, unknown to Gwenhywfar, events abroad mean a far mightier battle for the Pendragon throne—and for the very future of Britain itself. Previous Picks Comments

Madeline Hunter | Dreams and Writing
Author Guest / October 1, 2010

After years of never remembering my dreams, recently I have been recalling a lot of them when I wake in the morning. I’ll leave it to the dream specialists and psychologists explain why this change has happened. I am just happy to have those vivid images in my head again, and glad for the evidence that I did not stop dreaming entirely. Since they are so vivid, and I remember them in detail, I have discovered something I had not realized before. Sometimes when I dream, I am me. And sometimes I am someone else. And sometimes I am me, but I am in someone else’s head, experiencing what they do even though I am still me. Just like when I read a novel. In a recent dream this happened, and it was so notable that, right there in my dream, the “me” in that dream noticed it and even commented on it. A woman in my dream was climbing up a metal ladder, through a building, the sort of ladder you see in stairwells or utility rooms to permit access to other floors and the guts of a building. All kinds of other things happened, but it was this…

Meet Jennifer Erin Valent
Jen's Jewels / October 1, 2010

Have you ever wondered what it would be like if you were born a different race? I think oftentimes we are so comfortable in our own skin that we neglect to acknowledge the adversity faced by others. For example, the civil rights movement seems like an event found only in the pages of a history book, but in reality, it happened not too long ago. If it weren’t for bright, courageous authors who challenge us to remember the road once taken, we might forever forget the struggles our country has faced. This month’s Jen’s Jewels Jennifer Erin Valent is an expert, in my opinion, in making the past come to life. In her latest release CATCHING MOONDROPS, she continues the story of a brave young white woman named Jessilyn Lassiter who comes face to face with social prejudices in Virginia in the 1930’s. The third book in the series, she takes the reader to a place where the Ku Klux Klan reigns supreme and the rights of those of a different race are put to the test. As part of this interview, Tyndale Publishers has donated five books for you, my favorite readers, to try to win. So, don’t forget…
