Spotlight on Dianna Love
Author Spotlight / August 25, 2012

Are Readers Feeling Alienated at Book Signings? by NYT Best Seller Dianna Love With so many books going to electronic format, readers now have their favorite fix with the click of a button for every type of story from both debut authors and best sellers.  But what’s happening to the book lover’s special keeper shelf of signed novels by favorite authors? It’s empty, because E-Fans have nothing to ask an author to sign. I’ve noticed a trend over the past two years: E-book readers who did attend signings often apologized for not buying the print edition. Some asked to have their e-reader device and/or covers signed. Other fans would slink up looking embarrassed, apologize for buying an electronic copy and ask to have a piece of paper autographed. They actually apologized! I was appalled that ANY reader should feel the need to apologize for purchasing a book, regardless of the format.  I instigated dialogue online with readers about this and discovered that E-fans often do feel alienated because many bookstores now require the reader to purchase the new release at their store in order to attend a signing, reading, or author event.  That’s understandable since bookstores need to cover expenses,…

Nicola Marsh | Writing a Category Romance
Author Guest / August 25, 2012

I love category romance (or series romance as some readers call it.) I love the tightness of the stories (having to pack so much into fifty thousand words), the glamorous settings and the guaranteed happily ever afters. So imagine my excitement when I heard about Entangled Publishing’s Indulgence series, featuring the type of category romances I love to write and read.  Fun. Flirty. Contemporary. After writing 32 romances for Harlequin, I tried my hand at an Indulgence and once I started the story flew from my fingertips. I love taking tropes (eg. Marriage of convenience) that readers love and putting a modern spin on it. That’s what I’ve done in NOT THE MARRYING KIND.  Matched an independent, brazen LA party planner who specializes in divorce parties with a reformed Vegas bad boy and made them marry for convenience.  Or inconvenience as I like to put it. I hope readers have as much fun with Poppy and Beck as I did creating them! USA TODAY bestselling author Nicola Marsh writes flirty fiction with flair. She’s had 32 books published with Harlequin Romance and Presents series, a fun, flirty contemporary mainstream romance BUSTED IN BOLLYWOOD with Entangled Publishing (nominated for Romantic Book…

Debra Kayn | Losing Myself in Category Romance ~ Win a Copy RODEO REBEL
Author Guest / August 25, 2012

Give me a story in a contemporary setting, with a sexy man whose life is turned upside down by a strong woman, and I can lose hours of time reading the story. When the Indulgence line at Entangled Publishing announced they were going to be releasing trope driven category romance books with new voices, fresh dialogue, all for the price of $2.99, they filled a need for my budget and book buying habits. I’ve watched the Indulgence books release each month with excitement. Jennifer Probst, author of THE MARRIAGE BARGAIN, sailed to the top of the charts with every Indulgence author cheering her on. Such exciting times, and proves that category romance books are alive and needed. You can imagine my happiness when my book, RODEO REBEL, book 4 of the Sisters of McDougal Ranch series was offered a contract with Indulgence. I can tell you that the editing was top notch, the support from my publicist very much appreciated, and the continual support from the authors at Entangled Publishing continues to astound me. And, every month I’m first in line to buy every single Indulgence book that’s released. Then I promptly lose hours of time while I read them!…

Christie Craig | The Value of Laughter
Author Guest / August 25, 2012

“When things go right, laugh; when thing go wrong, laugh harder.”—My Grandmother I come from a long line of southerners who believe humor is not only an expression of joy, but a damn good coping mechanism.  Laughter soothes your spirit when some stress gremlin tries to steal your joy out of life. A prime example of this was my aunt’s funeral.  She was an amazing, strong-willed lady who loved to … love.  She’d been divorced three times and married four. To the same man.  My uncle, also a strong-willed individual, had passed away a year earlier. Heavy clouds clung to the morning of my aunt’s funeral. We sat in that room with her casket, listening to my cousin talk about how much his mom would be missed. When he stopped to catch his shaky breath, lightning stuck. Literally, lightning struck the funeral home. The pews shook, the power went out. Overtaken by silent blackness, the loudest thing in the room was our grief.  Clearing his throat in the darkness, my cousin said, “Wow.  Mom and Dad must be back together again.” Laughter filled the unlit room like renewed light and we found an emotional reprieve in the humor. I not…

Susan Connell | Romancing The Beach
Author Guest / August 23, 2012

I live twenty minutes from Palm Beach, a fifteen mile long island on Florida’s south east coast. My husband and I drive over there at least once a week. We don’t go for Worth Avenue’s high end shopping, or to dine at glitzy restaurants, or for a drive-by of the opulent mansions. We go for the beach. Ahhh…the beach. Perfectly tended, life guard protected and still public. Besides all that, it’s the nearest patch of salt scented real estate to our home. So good for planting our beach umbrella (red with a Campari logo), setting up our sand chairs and indulging in our weekly ritual of people watching. (Okay, my husband goes to swim, so let me tell you about the guys.) You would be amazed by the cross section of male society I’ve seen there. A mosaic of men – all shapes, all sizes, and all ages. Oooh, baby let the show begin and set it to the sounds of English, Spanish, French, Portuguese and German. By the way, I’m still not getting the appeal of Europeans in mini-Speedos. Nor do I gaze fondly upon American men in Jams. (Excuse me, sir, the 90’s called and they want their…

Linda Lael Miller | Scholarships for Women
Author Guest / August 22, 2012

Linda Lael Miller Scholarships for Women program is open. The 2012 program is now accepting applications through close of business (5 p.m. MDT), September 4, 2012. Educate a woman, and countless generations to come will benefit from the investment Can you tell us about your Linda Lael Miller Scholarships for Women? Full information is available on my website—www.lindalaelmiller.com—but here’s an overview: each year I give away $10,000 in special scholarships, based on essays explaining the applicant’s goals, what the money will be used for, etc. A number of people read the entries very carefully—in fact, each one is read several times, to assure that the awards are fairly given. I began the program several years ago, as a way to give something back—and I still fund it personally. At this point, I’ve given away something like $75,000. Having been a single mother myself, I have a special place in my heart for women raising children alone—I was very poor in the early years and I know the struggles and the heartache involved well—though we also consider women who are older, and want to change their lives for the better. Over the years, I’ve received a number of graduation photos and…
