Where is Kathy Lyons?
Author Guest / October 23, 2018

Guess where I was this weekend? Home with my feet up, my cat on my lap, as I binged watched Firefly and Serenity. (Again) Dancing with the Stars. As in out in my backyard with my husband as we celebrated empty nesting. New York to see as many Broadway shows as we could cram into 3 days. At Shameless Con in Orlando where a TON of fun is had by all. Answer: D — Shameless Con! I met lots of great friends there—old and new. Had a wonderful time at the Entangled Candy and Spoons party. (I was the dealer so my body was not in danger as people dove across the table for spoons and huge towers of books as prizes) Here’s a picture of me at my booth before we started. And then there are great pictures of the Meredith Wild after party. So many great costumes! (It was Wild Circus themed) And lastly, this is me dealing Spoons in Entangled Publishing Candy and Spoons event! Whew! Then I rewarded myself!

Kat Martin | Wait Until Dark
Author Guest / October 22, 2018

WAIT UNTIL DARK is a digital novella that introduces my new Maximum Security series, set around a private security company in Dallas, Texas.  The story gives you a sneak peek at the private detectives, bail enforcement agents, and bodyguards who work at The Max.   If you read BEYOND DANGER, Beau Reese’s story, you might recall meeting Chase Garrett, the owner of Maximum Security, where female detective, Cassidy Jones, was employed.   The first full-length novel in the series, Chase’s story, THE CONSPIRACY, will be out January 22 of next year–just in time for Valentine’s Day! In WAIT UNTIL DARK, Jonah Wolfe, a private investigator, has a knack for spotting trouble. When April Vale storms into his office, all his warning signs flash neon red. April’s been accused of murder–but has no memory of how she awoke in her coworker’s bed, drenched in his blood, the deadly bullet fired from April’s own gun.  April must convince Jonah to help her prove her innocence and the clock is ticking. The real killer is out there–and if they don’t find him before it’s too late, April may be his next victim. I hope you enjoy WAIT UNTIL DARK and that you’ll watch for…

Jennifer Probst | Exclusive Interview with the Hero of A Brand New Ending
Author Guest / October 22, 2018

Meet Kyle Kimpton, the Hero from Jennifer Probst’s A Brand New Ending   1) Greetings Kyle! Thanks for being with us at Fresh Fiction today. I know that a lot of readers are interested in your story. Can you tell us a bit about yourself? Absolutely. I’m a successful Hollywood screenwriter with some big movies to my credit, but lately, my life hasn’t been what I’ve imagined. Sure, I’m successful, but I sacrificed the only woman I ever loved for my career, and I plan on getting her back. I’m going to win back her love, and write the greatest script of all time. I can still have it all, right? 2) Maybe… We see know why you returned to your hometown after a decade. What’s the first thing that you did when you arrived? Went straight to the Bishop B&B to see Ophelia. God, she took my breath away. I’m still madly in love with her. I explained I needed to stay at the Inn in order to write this new script, but she didn’t take my request too well. 3) A little birdy told us that Ophelia isn’t exactly happy to see you. Care to comment on that?…

Gena Showalter | Exclusive Excerpt: Shadow and Ice
Author Guest / October 19, 2018

As Knox sprinted across the frozen tundra, he summoned a thick cover of shadows. In seconds, total blackness shrouded him, hiding him—and Vale—from the view of others. “Can’t see,” she said, her teeth chattering. “So dark.” “You don’t need to see.” The urge to return to the prison and pick off survivors bombarded him, but his desire to save the little Terran proved stronger. One minute had ticked into another, more and more of her strength drained, until she stopped fighting entirely. She even lost her grip on her bag. Earlier she’d mentioned medicine. He doubled back, grabbed the pack and hefted it over his shoulder, but she offered no thanks. The feisty mortal had grown quiet, as well. At this rate, she would freeze to death before he reached his bunker. Rifters? He glanced at his right hand. Good to go. Rifters were made of a crystal-metal hybrid and resembled open-ended thimbles. They fit over the first, second and third fingers, and stretched from the nail bed to the middle knuckle. When you clinked them together, they vibrated. When they vibrated, you could wave them through the air to cut a doorway to somewhere else on Terra. You had…

Michelle Dayton | Top 5 Reasons Why Fall Is the Perfect Season to Read a Romance
Author Guest / October 19, 2018

My new book, Quick Fall, is set solely in the timeframe between Labor Day weekend and mid-November.  I was settling in with some recently downloaded books on my Kindle last week and I kept scrolling past thrillers and deep dramas looking for something a bit lighter, something with a guaranteed happily-ever-after.  It made me realize just how much I love reading romance in the Fall season … here are five reasons I think you should too! 5. In the real world, Fall is a very serious season.  Escape – in the form of a romance book – is a healthy mental choice!  If you’re like me, you spend a lot of time reading the news and hearing about world events on social media.  It’s hard on your mental health to constantly absorb the problems and negativity that are everywhere.  But reading a romance can give you a few hours’ breather! You can enter a world where the main concern is that your characters find a true emotional connection … and possibly, some amazing sex!  🙂  4. The holidays!  I love it when romance books have Halloween trick-or-treating or Thanksgiving dinner scenes.  It makes me look forward to those events in…

Hester Fox | Exclusive Excerpt: The Witch of Willow Hall
Author Guest / October 18, 2018

The town center proves to be that in name only. A run-down dry goods store with peeling letters advertises coffee, and a little white church sits at one end of the town green. That’s it. No theaters, no gardens and, worse yet, no bookshops. Yet there’s something charming about the simplicity of the square and the dirt roads that wind up and around it; there’s no stink of fish wafting off nearby docks, nor cobblestones caked with horse droppings. I take a deep breath and smile encouragingly to Emeline. Here’s our fresh start, not in the suffocating walls of Willow Hall with all its pretensions, but in the blue sky above it, the little town surrounding it. It doesn’t take long for our fresh start to lose its rosy glow. Two middle-aged women walk arm in arm, stopping to watch us unload from the carriage, Snip nipping at our dresses. They share a whispered word or two, and then creep a little closer to get a better look. The first woman lowers her voice and leans in toward her companion. “Those are the Montrose girls, you know. The family just came from Boston.” “Oh?” The other throws a glance back…

Naima Simone | How a Pastor’s Daughter Writes Romance
Author Guest / October 17, 2018

Confession. I’m a PK. For those of you unfamiliar with the acronym, I’m a Pastor’s Kid. A pastor’s granddaughter, too. So, in the church world, that’s like a double-dog whammy of either hell raiser or goody-two-shoes. Because in the eyes of most people, PKs fall into two groups: sinner or saint. There’s no in-between. And by “in-between” I mean, normal. Growing up as the granddaughter and daughter of pastors was…interesting. For the most part, my twin sister and I fell into the goody-two-shoes camp. And more so because my mother could shoot a “If You Cut Up Even the Lawd Won’t Be Quick Enough to Save You” look from the choir stand to the back of the church in zero-point-two seconds. I could read my death in her eyes from that distance, and yeah, it kept me in line. But when my sister and I did have moments—and we did—it seemed as if people were just waiting with the, “Aha! I knew they were bad seeds!” Man. If those people could see me now. A good number of romance authors, who are also Christians, wrestle with how their religious beliefs square with what they write. Myself included. Yet, the one…

J.S. Scott | Exclusive Excerpt: Ensnared
Author Guest / October 16, 2018

A few hours later, I began to realize that Eli had some standard skills. He’d surveyed the landscape, using the basic signs to find a small stream where we’d filled up water bottles. We still had to boil the water, but Eli had managed to use his knowledge to find it. Grudgingly, I had to admit that he really was interested in primitive survival. I’d taught him some advanced skills, like how to make an underground still if he couldn’t find an obvious source of water, and a few more ways to get drinking water in other climates. He listened, which made my irritation with him fade away a little. I’d expected him to scoff at everything I said or the things I tried to teach him. Instead, it had been exactly the opposite. Eli Stone seemed to suck up knowledge like a sponge, and he asked a lot of intelligent questions. “What are these?” he asked as he stopped on the hiking path we’d been following back to camp. I came to a halt next to him, reaching for his hand as he went to touch the small fruit bush. “Be careful,” I warned as I gripped his fingers…

Mira Lynn Kelly | Just This Once
Author Guest / October 16, 2018

Dear Reader, As an author with more than twenty titles under my belt, I know I’m kind of supposed to have the whole “words” thing down by now… but there ARE NO WORDS to convey just how stoked I am to finally have Sean & Molly’s story out in the world!! YAY!!! JUST THIS ONCE hit the shelves on October 2nd, and believe me when I tell you we couldn’t wait a second longer!! LOL!! These smack talking, trouble making friends-to-lovers have been whispering naughty line-budging ideas in my head since the Wedding Date series was first conceived. They were NOT into being the third book in the series and kept pushing their love story to the forefront of my mind… begging for just a few more lines in each book, another hint, maybe just one really hot, eyes lingering, breathless anticipation, sizzling off the page scene… But tough as it was, I managed to wrestle them back, knowing their story would be worth the wait. And it SO was. Writing Sean and Molly was one of the most fun experiences of my career. They couldn’t wait to hit the page, and wouldn’t stop whispering to me until THE END was typed……
