Delores Fossen | 20 Questions: SUMMER AT STALLION RIDGE

March 25, 2022

1–What is the title of your latest release?

SUMMER AT STALLION RIDGE. Harlequin HQN, comes out March 29th.

2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

Can two old friends rekindle the spark that brought them together even though their pasts are littered with land mines?

3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

I wanted a small fictional Texas town similar to the one where I grew up so I created Last Ride, Texas, a ranching town filled with colorful characters and hot cowboys.

4–Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?

Yes, I would. Emory designs and makes wedding dresses, and she has a lot of interesting clients. Added to that, she has a great sense of humor.

5–What are three words that describe your hero?

Hot, tough, loyal

6–What’s something you learned while writing this book?

I learned a lot about making wedding dresses and just how much work goes into them.

7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

I usually wait until I’m done to edit. I’m a plotter so I plow through the first draft and then do a major polish.

8–What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

Cupcakes with buttercream frosting. Bonus points if there’s a filling.

9–Describe your writing space/office!

I write pretty much anywhere, sometimes in a recliner, sometimes on a bed. I rarely write at an actual desk though.

10–Who is an author you admire?

Lori Wilde. She’s so dedicated to her writing and readers.

11–Is there a book that changed your life?

Nora Roberts’ MONTANA SKY. It was the first western romantic suspense I ever read, and I knew I wanted to write stories like that.

12–Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)

I’d submitted a query and the first ten pages of a book, HIS CHILD, to the senior editor at Harlequin Intrigue so I was so surprised when she called less than a week after I’d queried. I was hoping she was going to ask me for the rest of the book, but instead she said she wanted to buy it. I might have caused her hearing loss because I let out a very loud squeal. It was a dream come true call for me.

13–What’s your favorite genre to read?

I read so many things, but romance is at the top of the list. I also read romantic suspense. YA, horror, and mysteries. I’m especially fond of Irish mysteries like those of Tana French.

14–What’s your favorite movie?

It’s hard to choose just one, but I have watched LOVE, ACTUALLY too many times to count.

15–What is your favorite season?

Spring. I love the warmer weather so I can get out and go for long walks.

16–How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

I don’t celebrate it which often frustrates my family, but I just prefer focusing on other family holidays.

17–What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

REACHER. I loved it, and it stayed true to the book.

18–What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

Italian. I’m a pasta addict.

19–What do you do when you have free time?

Read, go for walks and occasionally I watch TV. My favorite thing though is hanging out with my 2-year-old twin grandbabies, Luke and Ruth. There’s never a dull moment when I’m around them.

20–What can readers expect from you next?

I have a new Harlequin Intrigue series, The Law in Lubbock County, starting in June. The first two books are: SHERIFF IN THE SADDLE and MAVERICK JUSTICE.

SUMMER AT STALLION RIDGE by Delores Fossen

Summer at Stallion Ridge

The chance to be near his young son is the only thing that could entice former SWAT commander Matt Corbin back to his hometown. Matt has only a few happy memories of his tough childhood in Last Ride, Texas, and most of them involve Emory Parkman. Once his teenage crush, she’s now living in a cottage on his late grandfather’s ranch, which seems like a good omen…until Matt learns Emory is looking into his family’s history, a subject he’d prefer remained closed.

Emory’s wedding-gown designs are said to bring luck—to everyone but her. Though twice bitten by romance that went sour, she’s tempted to take a chance on the rancher next door. Emory and Matt’s long-ago attempts at love never got a fair chance, but all these years later, their attraction is stronger than ever. Maybe by unearthing some of his ancestors’ long-buried secrets, she can help him finally cast off the past’s shadows and prove to Matt that the third time’s the charm.
