Fresh FIction Box Not To Miss

Elizabeth O’Roark – Opposites Attract Mixed with a Surprise Pregnancy

December 14, 2022

1–What is the title of your latest release?

THE DEVIL GETS HIS DUE

2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

An irresponsible party girl gets knocked up by her hot sort-of enemy, an uptight hedge fund manager. He moves in, hijinks ensue…and they discover they don’t hate each other as much as they thought.

3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

It was kind of already decided since all the Devil books take place in LA. The first one was inspired by the show “Lucifer”, so it never occurred to me to set it anywhere else.

4–Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?

Absolutely. Keeley would be the most fun friend ever, until she got you arrested.

5–What are three words that describe your hero?

Brooding, responsible, restrained

6–What’s something you learned while writing this book?

That I’ve forgotten everything about being pregnant. I did it three times…I assumed I’d remember how it went but I wound up having to do a lot of research.

7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

I edit while I draft. I can’t help it. I’ve even tried voice dictating chapters just so that I wouldn’t be able to fix things and I end up stopping in the middle of dictation to clean it up.

8–What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

Steak frites. Mostly the frites part.

9–Describe your writing space/office!

Very beachy – white stone table, rattan chairs, seagrass rug…and my kids’ crap everywhere because it is (unfortunately) near the front door.

10–Who is an author you admire?

Megan Hart writes amazing books. I’ve never read a bad book by her.

11–Is there a book that changed your life?

Is it weird to say “Twilight”? I wasn’t even reading romance until a friend convinced me to read Twilight, and I think I started writing simply because I wanted to stay in that world.

12–Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)

I never did, since I’m indie. Still waiting for that call, Penguin Books – make me the next John Grisham!

13–What’s your favorite genre to read?

Probably romance, though in the last year it’s been mysteries.

14–What’s your favorite movie?

Inception

15–What is your favorite season?

I’m in DC, which isn’t reliably warm til late May, so definitely summer.

16–How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

By sitting in an airport with my kids, lol. Not really, but my bday falls at the end of spring break and I can’t remember the last time I didn’t spend it dragging three tired children through security.

17–What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

The Devil’s Hour (TV show). OMG, I am bored by everything, and I could not stop watching until it was done.

18–What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

Mexican.

19–What do you do when you have free time?

Read, or surf if I’m somewhere it’s possible.

20–What can readers expect from you next?

The Summer We Fell, a very angsty love-triangle/second-chance romance.

THE DEVIL GETS HIS DUE by Elizabeth O’Roark

The Grumpy Devils #4

The Devil Gets His Due

An accidental pregnancy, grumpy-sunshine romance
Keeley: Last January, I drunk-married my nemesis—hot, oversized geek Graham Tate. With no memory of how it came about, there was only one solution: run off before he woke up and pretend it didn’t happen. It would have worked perfectly if I hadn’t wound up pregnant.

Graham is the opposite of everything I want in a man—practical, disciplined, frugal—but living with him until the baby arrives has me wondering if, perhaps, I’ve been wanting the wrong things all along. And if that drunk version of me last January might have been onto something.

Graham: I never planned to have kids, and I certainly wouldn’t have planned on one with Keeley Connolly—a woman who does not believe in savings accounts or personal safety and thinks Lucky Charms is a health food because of the non-marshmallow bits.

A woman who also didn’t think twice about marrying me in Vegas and ditching me hours later.

I can’t wait to put this behind me and return to my careful, chaos-free life in New York. But the more time I spend with Keeley, the more I’m remembering the things that led me to marry her in the first place…and wondering if I can live without them when this ends.

About Elizabeth O’Roark

Elizabeth O'Roark

Elizabeth O’Roark has a bunch of degrees she does not use and gave up working as a medical writer to craft grumpy, alpha heroes and the flawed women who love them. When not writing, she likes to spend time with her three kids, who are now teenagers and wish she’d find a different way to spend time. She can be found on Facebook feverishly debating whether or not “Die Hard” is a Christmas movie and telling people to read “The Hating Game”, which she did not write but wishes she had.
