Fresh FIction Box Not To Miss

Ella Quinn | Marital Expectations in Regency Romance

January 4, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release?

THE MARRIAGE LIST

2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

I’m not good at this. Marquis meets young lady who has no interest in his rank. Now he must find a way to get her attention.

3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

I have three sisters coming out at the same time. My only option was London.

4–Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?

She’d be like my granddaughter, but yes. She’s interesting.

5–What are three words that describe your hero?

Committed, kind, handsome.

6–What’s something you learned while writing this book?

I learned a lot about mining during the Regency to include the fact that the government owned most of the mines and that they were responsible for much of the violence.

7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

I really try not to, but it happens. I will say that when you force yourself to write a chapter a day, you do have to let a lot of the editing wait.

8–What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

Dark chocolate. Although, that’s really not much of an indulgence. So, let’s go for dense ricotta cheesecake with pistachios.

9–Describe your writing space/office!

I have a longish, narrow office with French doors and a balcony. The floor is terrazzo.

10–Who is an author you admire?

There are so many! Georgette Heyer and Jo Beverly are two. Unfortunately, they’re dead. Mary Jo Putney is alive and still writing. Also, Lorraine Heath.

11–Is there a book that changed your life?

No. Joining the Army changed my life.

12–Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)

It was an email. I was over the moon! After I caught my breath, I called my husband, mother-in-law, and friends, posted on FB and Twitter. I don’t think my feet touched the ground for a week.

13–What’s your favorite genre to read?

Historical romance. Of course.

14–What’s your favorite movie?

Mamma Mia. We’ve been watching it for years.

15–What is your favorite season?

I can never decide. I like all of them. I ski in winter and sail in spring and summer. Autumn has lots of fun fests.

16–How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

I like to go somewhere. This past year we went to Stuttgart and France. I celebrated all weekend.

17–What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

So, recently, my husband introduced me to Ghosts! It’s about a young couple and the wife inherits a house. It turns out there are ghosts living there. After she has a near death experience, she can interact with them. I love it! It’s so funny

18–What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

French. I live in Italy, but I’m not a big pasta fan. I like most foods, but when it comes to a cuisine, it’s French.

19–What do you do when you have free time?

I read, travel, and ski. I’m going to try to take more time for myself this year. Last year was insanely busy.

20–What can readers expect from you next?

The Husband List, the next Worthington book releases in June. I’m going to try to write a new Trevor novella. It will be the first one I’ve written that’s not for a box-set.

THE MARRIAGE LIST by Ella Quinn

The Worthingtons

The Marriage List

As part of a large, rambunctious family, Lady Eleanor Carpenter has gained some knowledge of what makes a successful marriage. She’s even compiled a list of essential qualifications in a potential husband. John, the Marquis of Montagu, seems of good character (check), with money enough to support a family (check). But what of the many other requirements on her list?

Montagu, meanwhile, believes the key to a comfortable life lies in marrying someone quiet and docile. Yet the one lady who captivates him could hardly be more different to what he envisioned. Lady Eleanor is as opinionated as she is lovely, determined to improve working conditions for coal miners, even at risk to her own safety.

From evenings at Almack’s to carriage rides in Hyde Park, this Season will contain many pleasures—and a few surprises that compel both John and Eleanor to rethink their expectations. For one thing is certain: love will not be defined by any list . . .
