1–What is the title of your latest release?
CYRAX (Book 1 of Cosmic Criminals)
2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
Cyrax is a quick and spicy Gay Sci-Fi Romance novella about an alien assassin who is exiled to Earth when a hit goes wrong, which leads to Cyrax chancing upon his fated mate on a glittering beach in remote Western Australia.
3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
There are plenty of books about aliens that take place among the stars, so I wanted to bring the wonder back down to Earth, literally. I love my home state of Western Australia for its vast and varied biomes, landscapes, and decided that Northern Western Australia where the interior is vast and empty, and the coasts are the only thriving settlements made for the perfect setting.
4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?
I’d love to hang out with Cyrax! I mean, he’s a giant, he’s blue, he’s an interstellar assassin, and he’s evolved from a feline species the way humans evolved from primates. (I love cats!) I think he’d find my brand of personal madness entertaining enough to you know… not kill me!
5–What are three words that describe your protagonist?
Lethal, Protective, and Alpha.
6–What’s something you learned while writing this book?
More than anything this book just reminded me of how much I love Science Fiction. I grew up watching Star Gate, enjoying adventures on other worlds. Then I fell in love with Star Wars and Star Trek. It was fun to dabble in something that has been sitting on the backburner of my mind for a long time.
7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
I’ve been writing for years, despite only being published recently, so I’ve learned to write very cleanly in that time. As a result, what I write the first time around is more or less what goes to print. The wonderful editors at Evernight Publishing usually only have small grammatical tweaks to suggest, which makes the entire process fast and smooth!
8–What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
Sushi. Though I’ve enjoyed every type of sushi I’ve ever tried, my favorite is the delicious and deceptively simple raw salmon nigiri. Its subtle and sweet flavors are just decadence to my palette!
9–Describe your writing space/office!
I work at a desk in our lounge room. It’s covered in art and pot plants! And I always have sweet tea and a big bottle of water on hand. I’d love a home office, but for now, I just pop headphones on while I work and put my favorite music on to help me focus!
10–Who is an author you admire?
An author I admire immensely is Anne Bishop, author of the Black Jewels Trilogy and subsequent novels. She more or less birthed the Romantic Dark Fantasy genre, and it’s been my one of my favorites to read and write, ever since! It contains all the majesty and wonder of High Fantasy but adds a big dollop of Romance and Dark subject matter into the mix.
11–Is there a book that changed your life?
To carry over from the last question, it would definitely have to be Daughter of the Blood, by Anne Bishop or The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice. These two books pretty much set in stone my desire to legitimately chase my dream of becoming a published author.
12–Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.
Evernight Publishing is a publisher I always wanted to land and have always been on the Dream List. So, when I received my acceptance email for a novella I submitted to an Open Call (for an anthology of theirs called Alpha Male), I was over the moon! I think I might have celebrated with sushi and a coffee frappe at the time. Seeing it in print now is amazing!
13–What’s your favorite genre to read?
I sort of touched on this in a prior question. Romantic Dark Fantasy is my favorite, but Paranormal Romance, and Erotic Horror are right up there, too! Ever since I was a kid, I’ve loved all things magical, as well as the things that go ‘bump!’ in the night.
14–What’s your favorite movie?
I can’t narrow it down to a singular movie I’m afraid, because my choice is a package deal. It’s the Lord of the Rings trilogy—Extended Editions! I’ve watched the trilogy more times than I can count and will literally never grow tired of it. It’s a family favorite, and I love nothing more than to watch it with my loved ones.
15–What is your favorite season?
Autumn! I love cool, snuggly weather, and there’s nothing more satisfying or comforting than cuddling up and reading or writing while it rains!
16–How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
Birthdays are quiet affairs for me. I hate parties, surprises, and unexpected visitors. So, just cake and a few treats with my family is my idea of a perfect birthday.
17–What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
There are too many to list! So, I’ll stick to shows. I can’t recommend The Boys, Vox Machina, and The Haunting of Bly Manor enough. With flawed superheroes, an homage to Dungeons & Dragons, and Gothic Horror, how can you go wrong?
18–What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
I’d say Japanese, because of sushi… but I absolutely love Chinese too. A good char kway teow is worth its weight in gold and will never disappoint me.
19–What do you do when you have free time?
I write. I don’t actually do ‘down time’. If I’m not being actively productive towards the progression of my career, I feel stressed, guilty, and anxious. So, if I’m not tending to my family, I’m writing or promoting myself. You could definitely call me a workaholic. My dream is my life. Being an author is everything to me!
20–What can readers expect from you next?
I have one to two titles releasing every month, so there’s always something new! I write in all genres across the Erotic Romance umbrella, but I’m going to be diving back into the worlds of my Blood Brothers MC series, as well as my Loving Monsters series once my current WIPs are completed and sent off. So, hot Aussie outlaw bikers and darkly delicious monsters are on the menu!
