Fresh FIction Box Not To Miss

Kym Roberts | Cozy Corner’s Best of 2022

January 2, 2023

This is the hardest time of the year. Getting all the decorations perfectly placed, buying the perfect gifts that will last forever, cooking, baking, cleaning (ugh) and trying to figure out which mysteries I’m going to say were the best of 2022!

It’s actually the hardest part of the holidays for me, (other than the cleaning) the rest is just icing on my sugar cookies. Choosing which novels are most memorable isn’t easy. I’ve read a lot of impactful mysteries written by incredible authors, each one a gift of love and hard work. (Don’t forget to put them all on your nice list Santa!)

But I must choose which ones will make special stocking stuffers, Happy Hanukkah gifts or just a small token to tell someone they are an extraordinary person who has been a gift in your life. No matter what you celebrate, it is the time to share with others.

So here is my gift to you, a list of incredible mysteries I’ve read this year. Some have visited the Cozy Corner this year, some have not, but each when has been an absolute joy to read! Happy Holidays everyone!

The Perfect Scam (The Reed Files Book 1)

Susanna Shore has created the perfect duo of a female interpol agent and a mafia man, but which one is the good guy, and which one is leading the perfect scam not to mention who left a dead body in their wake that may expose everything. A great international whodunit! Check out my interview with Susanna Shore at the Cozy Corner.

Murder and an Irish Curse (Pippin Lane Hawthorne Mysteries, Book 4) (A Pippin Lane Hawthorne Mystery)

Melissa Bourbon will lead you down a magical path of bibliomancy and curses with her Book Magic Mysteries. Murder and an Irish Curse is a page turner that kept me well into the night trying to solve the origins of the family curse wrapped in death.

Killers of a Certain Age

OMG—it’s never too late to be a Killer of a Certain Age! I’m not proposing you learn the business, I am suggesting you check out Deanna Raybourn’s fresh new concept of how to view an assassin! (Jason Bourne eat your heart out!)

The Cartographers: A Novel

I’m hoping this becomes a series! Peng Shepherd wrote an incredible standalone mystery that was Good Morning America’s pick of the month last spring! I concurred wholeheartedly!

Peace Like a River

Nancy Mehl’s Amish mystery isn’t easy to find, but it’s worth the search! Look on Guidepost where it’s sold as a box set with Hark the Herald Angels Fall by Tricia Goyer. Double the reward for your trouble!

The Widowmaker: A Black Harbor Novel (Black Harbor Novels)

A bit on the dark side, but we need the darkness to see the light of this great mystery by Hannah Morrissey!

Finlay Donovan Is Killing It: A Novel (The Finlay Donovan Series Book 1)

Elle Cosimano definitely killed it with her February release! I love Finlay Donovan!

Until next year, get cozy and read on!
