1–What is the title of your latest release?
2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
A matchmaker, fascinated by astrology, crosses paths with a chef who holds the key to changing her destiny.
3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
All the three books in the series are set in Raven’s Hollow, a town that’s based on Hoboken, NJ. It’s the perfect setting for an urban fantasy romance with its downtown, W Hotel, beautiful waterfront, upscale-restaurants, bars and a spooky cave that’s featured in book two, MIDNIGHT TEMPTATION.
4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?
Absolutely. I’d love to! The characters in this book feel like real people I want to be friends with. They’re fun and interesting. How many matchmaking astrologers and chefs do you know? I’d call them when I’m hungry and need advice.
5–What are three words that describe your protagonist?
Brooke – whimsical, romantic, free-spirited
Nico – creative, passionate, resilient
6–What’s something you learned while writing this book?
I learned a lot about astrology by listening to podcasts and reading books. I found the symbolism and history fascinating.
7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
I wait until I’m done with the first draft and then I go back several times.
8–What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
Any kind of chocolate cake. Nico makes Brooke a chocolate lava cake with peanut butter filling on their first date, which I think is so romantic. The first time my husband cooked for me, I knew he was a keeper.
9–Describe your writing space/office!
I have an office filled with bookcases stocked with both fiction and nonfiction books on all different subjects from art to history. I also have a long table that’s filled with about fifteen binders of notes and printouts on writing, and book marketing.
10–Who is an author you admire?
I love Kresley Cole (I met her at an RWA conference in New York City and she was absolutely lovely) Emily Henry, Emma Chase. I can’t pick just one!
11–Is there a book that changed your life?
I’ve always loved the Harry Potter books. I read them to my children and when we finally finished the series, I read HP fanfiction and couldn’t get enough. I started writing my own romantic stories and set them in a magickal world.
12–Tell us about when you got “the call.” (When you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.
I remember being in my office and opening the email with the offer. I started crying and laughing at the same time. I called my husband to tell him the news, and he thought something was seriously wrong.
13–What’s your favorite genre to read?
I love contemporary romance, rom-com, urban fantasy, and paranormal romance.
14–What’s your favorite movie?
It’s a tie between Practical Magic and Some Like It Hot.
15–What is your favorite season?
Fall. I love when the leaves turn color and the night takes on a spooky quality as we approach Halloween.
16–How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
Every year we try to make a point of getting away for a romantic weekend. (My hubby’s idea, so who am I to argue?) This year, my husband and I went to the town of Sleepy Hollow in upstate New York. We visited The Rockefeller estate, and Washington Irving’s home, (the author of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.) After that, we explored a haunted cemetery, and a pumpkin festival, where over a thousand lit jack-o-lanterns were on display. It was an amazing weekend.
17–What’s a recent show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
I listen to tons of podcasts. I recommend the Eri Nelson Vlogging Podcast on Podbean. I’ll be a guest this Thursday at 7:00 p.m. EST. I’ll be promoting my third book in the Raven’s Hollow Coven series, MIDNIGHT CRAVING. I also love the Spa Girls. They have on great guests.
18–What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
I love good Chinese food. Dim Sum is my favorite!
19–What do you do when you have free time?
I love to do yoga for my sanity. Going to dinner with friends and chatting over a glass of wine is my go-to. I love a ghost tour. I’ve been binge-watching Skin Walker Ranch and loving it. My favorite thing to do on date night is dinner and a movie.
20–What can readers expect from you next?
I’m trying my hand at a different genre. I’m working on a rom-com for my thesis in my grad program. I also started a contemporary series about four best friends living in the NYC, navigating careers, friendships, and finding love.
