Lydia Drake | A Precocious Teenage Girl Conspires to Get Her Governess and a Duke to Fall in Love
Author Guest / January 3, 2024

What is the title of your latest release? THE GOVERNESS AND THE DUKE What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? When a precocious teenage girl conspires to get her governess and the nation’s most eligible duke to fall in love, everything goes spectacularly wrong and then oh-so-right. How did you decide where your book was going to take place? I’ve always loved Gothic novels set in the north of England, so I knew I wanted that setting rather than London. I’m also partial to a castle, so a Gothic castle in Northumberland just had to be the choice. Would you hang out with your heroine in real life? Absolutely! Viola is kind and very intelligent. She might be a little reserved at first, but I’m sure she’d loosen up with time. What are three words that describe your hero? Brooding, sexy, kind. What’s something you learned while writing this book? There’s a talking raven in this book, so I spent way too much time watching raven videos on YouTube. I’ve learned that ravens are not only intelligent but can also be quite petty. If you’re mean to one, they’ll remember and tell all their friends. Good to know! Do…

Lydia Drake | Red Riding Hood Meets the Glittery Underworld of Moulin Rouge!

1–What is the title of your latest release? THE DUCHESS AND THE WOLF 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Red Riding Hood meets the glittery underworld of Moulin Rouge! 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? Susannah makes her first appearance as a side character in Cinderella and the Duke, and I knew that I wanted her as a protagonist. I also knew she wouldn’t be at all like Julia, my first main character. Susannah is very shy and dreamy, not a mover and shaker in society. I knew she’d want to get away from all of that—she would actually hate being married to a duke with the eyes of the ton on her. Since I had already written her as a talented musician, I decided that she’d seek her path to freedom through her music. That, in turn, led me to the idea of her living a double life as a debutante by day, nightclub musician by night. Everything flowed from there. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Absolutely! Susannah’s forward thinking, very sweet, and artistic. She’d be a great friend. 5–What are three words that describe your…

Lydia Drake | Pride and Prejudice meets Cinderella
Author Guest / December 19, 2022

1–What is the title of your latest release? CINDERELLA AND THE DUKE 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?  Pride and Prejudice meets Cinderella with a Regency twist! 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place?  I’ve always loved historical romances, in particular the Regency period. I guess it’s the Jane Austen fangirl in me. I liked the idea of doing a historical fairy tale retelling, and I especially liked the idea of doing Cinderella. The London Season had plenty of opportunities for lavish balls and parties, and it was definitely more common for a young woman be financially dependent on a wicked stepmother in the 1800s than it would be now. It just seemed like a good fit. 4–Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?  Absolutely! Julia’s a funny and outgoing person, and she’s loyal to the people she loves. I’d have to be a little on my guard, though. She has a bit of a temper if she thinks people are jerking her around. 5–What are three words that describe your hero? Funny, Passionate, Wounded 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book?  When I was researching wedding dresses, I…
