Winnie Archer | Author-Reader Match: BREAD OVER TROUBLED WATER

December 2, 2022

Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader Match” where we introduce you to authors you may fall in love with. It’s our great pleasure to present Winnie Archer (aka Melissa Bourbon)!

Writes:

Winnie/Melissa is a national bestselling author of many, many mysteries. Whether you like capers, cozies, traditional, magic, or suspense, she has something for you! Her newest release, BREAD OVER TROUBLED WATER, is book 8 in the Bread Shop Cozy Mystery series. She writes the Book Magic mystery series, the Magical Dressmaking mysteries, the Trouble in Tumbleweed, and the Foxy Ladies mysteries, all as Melissa Bourbon. Winnie Archer plays solo with the Bread Shop mysteries. You’ll enjoy them all!

About:

If you’re a fur-loving friend, we have a future ahead of us. Agatha and Sailor are pups and some of my favorite characters in my two current series (the Bread Shop mysteries and the Book Magic mysteries). Plus, there’s Thelma Louise, the cantankerous goat in my Magical Dressmaking series, and Miss Havisham, the bookshop cat in Devil’s Cove. Basically, I’m an animal lover in real life and at least some of my characters are also animal lovers. Understanding my adoration for Pumpkin Spice Lattes (yes, I am one of those) is a plus. I will never force my own tastes on you, so you can have your mocha or Americano or straight up black coffee and that’s A-okay with me. Now, don’t judge me, but I’ve also dipped my toe into TikTok. I spend a lot of my time developing writing courses through WriterSpark Academy and freelance editing, and, well, TikTok is a good place to be for all of that. If you’re there, look me up @bookishly_cozy. That’s me on Instagram, too. I’m about more than social media and writing, though. I will never say no to a hike in the woods and snuggling on the couch when it’s cold and raining out, a fire blazing, and a good book in my hands is the very best kind of date. Are you with me?

What I’m looking for in my ideal reader match:

  • Someone who is a mystery-lover, of course
  • Someone who appreciates the strong relationships women have with each other as mothers and daughters, aunts, and grandmothers, and as friends and neighbors is my kind of reader because you’ll appreciate the strong bonds I create between my characters.
  • If you like bread and baking and a little magic, we were made for each other.
  • Someone who loves books set by the water, whether it’s the Pacific Ocean, as in the Bread Shop series, or the Outer Banks, like in the Book Magic mysteries. Water is my zen.
  • If you like a little history woven into your books, you’ll get some of that in many of my books and series. One of my characters is a descendant of Butch Cassidy based on an alternate reality. Another is connected to the ancient Irish Deities of Tuatha dé Danann. If you think that’s kinda cool, we’ll get along great.
  • Someone who loves to escape into a great story and who will be sad when it’s over. That’s perfect for me because that’s what you’ll get with my books.

What to expect if we’re compatible:

  • I expect we’ll become lifelong friends because Bread Over Troubled Water is my 29th novel, so you’ll have a lot of great stories to read. It might take you a while.
  • You will not want Bread Shop mysteries or the Magical Dressmaking mysteries or the Book Magic mysteries to end. You might even send me an email telling me to keep writing them.
  • Expect some sleepless nights in your future.
  • Get ready for all the feels because that’s for sure what you’re gonna get.
  • You’ll find yourself reading about Trouble in Tumbleweed and the Foxy Ladies, because, why not? Once you’ve read one of my books, you’ll want to read them all.
  • Get ready to be hungry, because I write about food, and in the Bread Shop series, there is a lot of yummy bread. You’ll almost be able to smell it baking.
  • Finally, you’ll have hours and hours and hours of entertainment ahead of you. Get ready to enjoy!

BREAD OVER TROUBLED WATER by Winnie Archer

A Bread Shop Mystery #8

Bread Over Troubled Water

Rising cozy mystery author Winnie Archer cooks up her latest installment in her delightful and delicious Bread Shop Mystery series.

Photographer Ivy Culpepper is soon to make a home with her husband-to-be in the California beach town of Santa Sofia—but the Yeast of Eden bakery remains her second home. It’s not just a place to work, but a community. And now one member of the community has been murdered . . .

A regular who used Yeast of Eden as a workspace, Josh Prentiss always turned heads with his startlingly good looks and thousand-watt smile. But Ivy can’t help noticing one morning that he seems distracted and off his game. Later, during a visit to the park where she and Miguel plan to hold their engagement party—with plenty of baked goods on the menu—her rescue pug, Agatha, sniffs out Josh lying in a bed of poppies…scone cold dead.

There’s no reason for Ivy to get involved. She’s busy enough holding down the fort as the shop’s owner, Olaya, cares for her recently orphaned niece, not to mention the stress when a new employee is fired and storms out in a rage.  Then a band of rabble-rousers starts picketing the bakery, claiming that Olaya’s sourdough roll is what killed Josh—and Ivy hears some salacious gossip about her beloved boss. She doesn’t think there’s a grain of truth to the seedy rumors—but to prove it, she’ll have to start sleuthing . . .
