What is the title of your latest release?
PERILOUS TIDES
What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
Jo Cattrel is in hiding and working at a storm-watching lodge on the Washington Coast after the suspicious death of her mother. When she receives a mysterious message from her father, she must leave her sanctuary to find him. However, on the ferry crossing she becomes a witness to a murder and becomes the next target.
How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
This is book two of the Hidden Bay series set on the Washington Coast. I had always wanted to set a story at a lodge where people go to watch storms rolling in off the Pacific Ocean. This region of Washington State—the Olympic Peninsula—doesn’t have much cell service and even satellite is iffy, so I thought it would make a great place for a suspense novel.
Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?
Jo Cattrel is a gifted artist and worked as a forensic artist and is handy with tools. She has an interesting mind and thought process and is really an all-around great person and would be fun to hang out with.
What are three words that describe your protagonist?
Compassionate. Gifted. Intriguing.
What’s something you learned while writing this book?
Where do I even start? I took a deep dive into forensic art, whistleblowers and engineering and so much more.
Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
I don’t edit. My first draft is a big mess that I have to fix and flesh out. I don’t want to edit a scene that might ultimately be cut. I wait until I know exactly what the story is.
What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
Right now, unfortunately, I’m on Hershey’s Nuggets and they are getting me through some stressful times. Mostly the chocolate helps me write!
Describe your writing space/office!
We just moved into a house we built on a hill with a great view. I took the dining room for my office, and I have a lot of windows so it’s gorgeous.
Who is an author you admire?
There are so many authors I admire, but I’m going with Sharon Hinck here. Years ago, before I was published, I followed Sharon’s work. She wrote fantasy and women’s fiction for Bethany House and other publishers and was so prolific. I never imagined that we would become dear friends. She inspired me with her stories and encouraged me to keep writing. In 2024, she was inducted into the Christy Award Hall of Fame. I’m so proud of you Sharon!
Is there a book that changed your life?
Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers has been a bestselling novel for a couple of decades or more for a reason. It truly is a life-changing book.
Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.
I’ve published several series with my publisher already, but I’m always on “pins and needles” as I wait to learn if the pub board is interested in contracting my latest proposal. For Hidden Bay, my editor sent me a beautiful offer letter with a gorgeous image of the Washington Coast. She always goes the extra mile to encourage me with my stories.
What’s your favorite genre to read?
Romantic suspense of course! I love reading widely, and if romance and suspense is included even in historical or fantasy, for example, all the better!
What’s your favorite movie?
My current favorite movie is The Fall Guy with Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt. Love both actors and this movie was romantic suspense at its finest!
What is your favorite season?
Christmas! I start putting up the decorations on November 1. I don’t think the season lasts long enough. Oh wait . . . you said SEASON, and I took that to mean HOLIDAY! Well, then, let’s go with autumn because this is the start of holiday season.
How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
I like to celebrate for an entire week. We go out to eat at a few of my favorite places.
What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
I just finished watching season 2 of SILO with Rebecca Ferguson. It’s a favorite. It’s dystopian with a murder mystery to start. Just very well done.
What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
It’s always going to be a toss-up between Mexican or Italian food!
What do you do when you have free time?
I love to read in my free time or take long walks and lately I’ve added making sourdough bread as kind of a creative outlet.
What can readers expect from you next?
DEADLY CURRENTS, Book 3 in Hidden Bay releases in February 2026. I just started the first book in a brand-new series tentatively titled Mercy Ridge set in the Northern Cascades and that will release in the fall of 2026.
PERILOUS TIDES by Elizabeth Goddard

When her father sends her a disturbing and cryptic message, Jo leaves the safety of the lodge to find him. But during the ferry crossing, Jo witnesses a murder–and becomes a target.
More surprising to Jo than being in danger is the identity of the person who steps in to protect her: none other than her ex, former Green Beret Cole Mercer. Now a private investigator, Cole has been looking into her mother’s death. If he can just uncover the truth, maybe Jo can end her self-imposed captivity and the two of them can pick up the pieces and build a future together.
