Reid felt his phone buzz and expected to see his brother’s name flash across the screen. But he was pleasantly surprised when it was an unknown number, suggesting they meet up in a few days at the Rookery in the Loop so they could start scouting locations. This is Cassie, by the way. Reid felt himself smile, which he tried to tamp down into a smirk, but he knew he was grinning at his phone like some kind of giddy loser. Reid: Does this mean you’re going to do the campaign? Cassie: I suppose you’ll get to see me in caution tape lingerie after all. He wondered what changed her mind. From what little he knew, Dana could be convincing, but he also suspected that Cassie knew an opportunity when she saw one, even if it wasn’t exactly what she wanted. And he’d be damned if he didn’t take the opportunity to work with Cassie, wearing next to nothing. Knowing that James would tell him to keep his money if he tried to pay for the beer, Reid quickly finished his beer and left enough cash to cover the drink, a normal tip, and then some, and headed down the…

Love Meghan and Harry? We have the perfect list of royal romances for you to enjoy

By: Miranda Owen “Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown.” ― William Shakespeare, HENRY IV, Part 2 “Hail to the king, baby.” – Ash, ARMY OF DARKNESS Royalty-themed romance is a fun fantasy, and not just limited to historicals. Reading a few books in the Royal Wedding Archives series, by various authors, I got to thinking about all the varieties of romances featuring royalty – contemporary, historical, and paranormal. Some stories have fairy tale aspects, and some characters are realistically flawed even though they may be royalty. I admit that when I think of books about royalty, historical romance immediately comes to mind, but I recently read some fabulous contemporary romances with royal heroes. After binge-reading new-to-me author Alexa Riley, I came across her story THE KING’S INNOCENT BRIDE. Even though it has a contemporary setting, THE KING’S INNOCENT BRIDE has an old-world fairy tale feel to it. Kate is isolated and virtually a prisoner of her wicked uncle. After bravely making an escape attempt, she comes face-to-face with the king. James is instantly smitten with Kate and he spends the rest of the story dispensing punishment to anybody who has crossed Kate, and catering to her every desire…

Tara Taylor Quinn | Getting Ready for the Holidays
Author Guest , Guests , News / September 9, 2016

Fall always makes me think of the holidays. Sometimes with anticipation. Sometimes, I’m just plain not ready yet. This year, I have the holidays hitting me upside the head in September. We’re traveling this holiday season and it’s up to me to coordinate between all of the different families vying for our time, to schedule where we’ll be when to best suit everyone, and to find a loving home for our furry friends while we’re gone. Then there’s Mom’s boutique. It started out as a dream of hers told to me, by her, when I was a kid. She envisioned women working together throughout the year making crafts, socializing, becoming friends that would be a support system when life got rough. She envisioned them selling the crafts at a church holiday boutique and donating the proceeds. Eleven years ago, she made that dream a reality. Her boutique was open in her church social hall for six hours on one Saturday in November and made nearly a thousand dollars that was donated to children’s ministries. The boutique now has so much hand crafted stock and display equipment that it requires a large storage unit. My mother’s garage has been turned into…

A Piece of Cake
Guests / January 12, 2016

Choosing the professions of my fictional characters is something I look forward to every time. I try to pick something I am interested in, so I can write about it with conviction, passion and sincerity.  I would not, say, write about an accountant or a mathematician; for me, math is a major irritant, like getting sand in my eye. So when it comes to math, I have to take a pass. But that still leaves a lot of fields wide open. I have written about characters that were violinists, ballerinas, children’s book editors, podiatrists, obstetricians, bar owners, interior designers, and architects. One character owned a bra shop, and boy did I have a lot of fun with that. Another did not know what she wanted to do, and found her calling in the course of the novel. What I didn’t know about these fields I was able to research, a process both invigorating and thrilling because it allowed me, however briefly, to slip into someone else’s life. On the deepest level, though, the character’s profession needs to speak for her or his soul and it is my job as the author to match my understanding of the character’s inner life…

Sandra Hill | Aging Well
Author Guest , Guests / December 19, 2010

Some things in life age well. Wine. Scotch. Men and women with good bones and healthy physiques. Well-crafted furniture. Master paintings. And books. Yes, I said books. As I’ve been updating seventeen of my backlist titles for reissue in the coming year, I must say with shameless lack of humility that my books do age well. Going back to my first novel published in 1994, THE RELUCTANT VIKING , I have been reviewing them page by page, looking for errors, modernizing the content (Hey, Dolly Parton would not be considered the epitome of sexy lady today; nor would Kevin Costner, nor, God forbid! Mel Gibson, appeal to the younger reader). In the process of these new readings, I have been remarkably surprised at how enjoyable they are, even after all these years. And one added plus is that I get to make changes I deem necessary which has resulted in a major do-ever. I am “unkilling” two secondary characters in MY FAIR VIKING (now retitled THE VIKING’S CAPTIVE, January, 2011). Selik and Rain were the hero and heroine of THE OUTLAW VIKING, but I had them die in MY FAIR VIKING a few years later. Readers were outraged. So, voila!…
