Rebecca York | Someone put billionaire Jordan Campbell in a coma

November 11, 2025

What is the title of your latest release?
CHRISTMAS CAPTIVE

What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
Someone put billionaire Jordan Campbell in a coma. Decorah Security asks nurse Hannah Andrews to use her psychic powers to reach him.

How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
I needed an isolated mansion on the coast.

Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?
I never write about protagonists I wouldn’t want to party with.

What are three words that describe your protagonist?
Bullheaded, rich, in need of the right woman

What’s something you learned while writing this book?
Would you believe I learned that a writer can get her ideas from the weirdest places? I was at a conference and went up to my room. We were on the 19th floor. I looked at the room numbers, and everyone could have been a year in the 20th century. That gave me the idea of having the heroine psychically step into that hallway and start opening doors. Each one took her to a past Christmases in the hero’s life.

Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
I am the queen of editing. I usually start a writing session by editing what I wrote in the last session. But I always have to do a lot more editing to get the story the exact way I want it.

What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
I love making chocolate sodas with vanilla ice cream. On occasion, DH and I will have them for dinner instead of “real food.”

Describe your writing space/office!
I am most comfortable propped on my bed with my laptop on my legs and a cat beside me.

Who is an author you admire?
I have pretty wide reading tastes. They range from Terry Pratchett to Nora Roberts to Dean Koontz to Ken Follett.

Is there a book that changed your life?
I would say that THE KEY TO REBECCA, by Ken Follett, was a game-changer for me. I was just thinking about writing romantic suspense, and when I read that book, I thought—that’s the kind of story I want to write. A man and a woman falling in love against a background of suspense and danger.

Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.
My first sale was a kids’ science fiction novel that I sold to Scholastic. The editor called and said she wanted to buy my book. Then she almost gave me an ulcer by taking a long time to send me the contract. I kept worrying—did she change her mind? Or what?

What’s your favorite genre to read?
I can’t pick just one. I love romantic suspense, paranormal romantic suspense, dystopian, fantasy, and science fiction.

What’s your favorite movie?
It will always be Starman. What an offbeat, heartwarming romance.

What is your favorite season?
I love spring. It warms my heart to see all the dormant plants emerge from the earth, and I love the spring flowers.

How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
In a posh hotel with my husband.

What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
Paradise

What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
Like my taste in books, I enjoy all kinds of food. I can’t pick just one.

What do you do when you have free time?
Read, garden, do crafts, play with the cats, play bridge (which seems to be a dying pastime). I also love traveling.

What can readers expect from you next?
Next up for me is the fifth book in my Soulmated series, MIDNIGHT OBSESSION.

CHRISTMAS CAPTIVE by Rebecca York

Decorah Security 2.0 #16

Was it attempted murder or a boating accident?

Either way, the hard-driving Jordan Campbell is in a coma.

When Frank Decorah asks nurse Hannah Andrews to use her psychic talent to connect with Jordan, she knows it’s a dangerous job. Once she’s on the case, whoever tried to kill Jordan will likely turn on her.

But as she digs into the man’s background, she can’t refuse Frank’s assignment. Now she’s risking her life—and her heart.
