Becca Grischow | The movie Bridesmaids meets Emily Henry, but make it sapphic

June 3, 2026

What is the title of your latest release?
FOR THE BRIDE

What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
The movie Bridesmaids meets Emily Henry, but make it sapphic.

How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
Almost all of my writing is set in the Midwest, and since Alice, our main character, works in music and recording, it made sense for her to live in Chicago. There’s a destination bachelorette party in the book that’s set in Palm Springs, which I chose because A. It’s a hot bachelorette destination right now and B. It’s very queer-friendly.

Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?
Yes, but I might be a little too chaotic for her. Alice loves her routines, and I am NOT a routine girl.

What are three words that describe your hero?
The love interest, Renee, is icy, organized, and loyal.

What’s something you learned while writing this book?
I didn’t set out to write a book about grief, but it quickly became an enormous part of the book. I didn’t realize how much grief I had shoved aside but never processed, and writing this book allowed me to move through that.

Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
I edit while I draft…and I should probably do it a little less!

What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
I’ve been on a huge fruit snack kick lately.

Describe your writing space/office!
Imagine a twin mattress-sized futon on the floor with more pillows than any one person could need. I call it my writing pit.

Who is an author you admire?
It sounds corny, but I truly admire anyone with the courage and commitment to write and publish a book. That said, Alison Cochrun. I’d pick Alison Cochrun every time.

Is there a book that changed your life?
Oh gosh, I can only pick one?! HUNGER by Roxane Gay.

Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published). Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.
I was at my parents’ house when I got the call from my agent that Viking Penguin had offered me a two-book deal. I sat and sobbed on the living room floor while my mom threw tissues at me like they were confetti. It was magical and perfect. My greatest childhood dream came true that day.

What’s your favorite genre to read?
Romance! Is that a cop out? It’s true!

What’s your favorite movie?
Try not to laugh…The Simpsons Movie.

What is your favorite season?
Summer

How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
I used to be a big birthday person, but the older I get, the more I just want to sit on the beach and read

What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
I will always recommend the podcast Maintenance Phase. Aubrey Gordon and Michael Hobbes debunk wellness grifts with thorough academic research and just enough humor.

What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
Mediterranean

What do you do when you have free time?
Long walks and audiobooks.

What can readers expect from you next?
There’s a MF bisexual romance manuscript with my agent right now…so hopefully that!

FOR THE BRIDE by Becca Grischow

A Novel

From the author of I’ll Get Back To You, a sapphic enemies-to-lovers romance that follows a Type-A maid of honor setting out to do the most and a Type-B bridesmaid with her life only just put-together, who must put aside their animosity to plan the wedding of the summer

On the surface, Alice has her life together. She’s got a job in music she loves; she’s firmly sober; and she’s grateful to be back in the good graces of her ex-girlfriend-once-best-friend-now-literal-only-friend Gin. Just in time, too, because Gin’s getting married this summer! And Alice gets to be a bridesmaid.

If only the maid-of-honor wasn’t Renee Roberts: Type-A, the opposite of her in every way, and a long-time Alice-hater who’s clung to her animosity like a leech. Every second Alice spends around Renee makes her feel like who she used to be, rather than the person she’s spent years trying to make herself into—and she doesn’t want to be reminded of her younger self any more than she wants to be thinking, more constantly than she wants to admit, about Renee: her hair, her lips, her wit…. No, Alice has her own stuff to figure out. She still loves music, but her career feels directionless. She’s grieving the loss of her father just a year ago, to alcohol. And then she finds out that her mother’s started to date her father’s ex-bandmate, which sends her reelingand with the wedding just around the corner, she doesn’t want to bother Gin about any of it.

It’s pure chance that Renee runs into Alice, just when she needs someone the most—and suddenly, everything shifts. Neither of them are what they assumed the other to be. Over the days and nights they’re spending helping Gin throw a DIY summer wedding of epic proportions, Alice and Renee discover that though they have nothing in common—that might be precisely what each of them need. Heartfelt and hopeful, For the Bride is a banter-filled sapphic romance with deep emotional resonance about found family, second chances, and finding love in the unexpected.
