What is the title of your latest release?
THE HAUNTED LIBRARIAN
What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
A lonely night-time librarian must help three ghosts find peace and move on or lose the library she loves.
How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
My last book THE LATE-NIGHT WITCHES, featuring both witches and vampires, took place in PEI, so my editor and I decided to expand the story world and add ghosts to it as well!
Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?
Yes, but we would probably just read silently together.
What are three words that describe your hero?
Smart, lonely, and a tiny bit abrasive. She has a very good heart, though.
What’s something you learned while writing this book?
That many famous literary quotes fall in the realm of urban legends. They can’t be attributed to the author at all! So, authors, think twice before you begin each chapter with a so-called quote. Your copyeditor will thank you.
Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
I wait until I’m done. Then I edit…again, and again, and again…
What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
Miss Vickie’s Salt and Malt Vinegar Chips
Describe your writing space/office!
A couple of years ago we built a writing shed in our backyard under a beautiful giant elm tree. I highly recommend writing in dappled sunlight. The shed itself is small, but I have a desk, plants, a bookshelf and a very comfortable armchair.
Who is an author you admire?
When I was going through breast cancer, I looked to authors like Alice Hoffman, Elin Hilderbrand and Joanne Harris for inspiration and to remind myself that even though cancer changed my life, it didn’t end the part that wanted to create stories.
Is there a book that changed your life?
There are too many to name, but JANE EYRE and REBECCA had a huge effect on me when I was a young teenager. I love moody, gothic novels to this day.
Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published). Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.
I was actually in the tub with my 10-month-old when my husband, six-year-old and four-year-old burst in with the news. My husband had been watching my email. Needless to say, there are no photos!
What’s your favorite genre to read?
I can’t choose. That’s like picking a favorite child. I’ve never met a genre I didn’t like. But if I’m forced to give an answer…maybe horror? Gothic? Paranormal? Stories that renew my faith in humanity? That’s a weird mix, isn’t it?
What’s your favorite movie?
Do people really choose just one? When I was a pre-teen, I loved The Goonies. As a teenager, it was Lost Boys and The Witches of Eastwick. And as an adult? Parasite, maybe? It was bizarre and unsettling but had a lot to say about people. I realize these don’t exactly match the cozy, paranormal vibe of most of my books, but I’ve always had pretty eclectic tastes.
What is your favorite season?
Autumn. Hands down. No contest.
How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
Quietly with my family, preferably wearing pajamas.
What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
I recently watched Cape Fear (the series) and Widow’s Bay with my husband. I really enjoyed both.
What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
Oh, my mom’s cooking. She passed away seven years ago. Her Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners were amazing. Each dish has become its own memory. I can still taste her turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans with lemon and olive oil, and her iconic mandarin Jello salad.
What do you do when you have free time?
I play a lot of soccer, but when I’m not doing that, you can usually find me in some comfy lounge wear watching some show with a family member. My fourteen-year-old is into anime at the moment. That has been fascinating.
What can readers expect from you next?
I’m currently working on a few of projects. First, the third book in my Evenfall Witches B&B mystery series. I owe it to all the loyal readers I left hanging off the cliff at the end of book two. I’m also working on a werewolf book, but it’s still in the very early stages. I’d like it to fall into the cozy horror genre, so a little horror, a little humor, and a lot of heart. Finally, I’ve been working on a women’s fiction/horror novel, well, forever, but I’m hoping to get that out in the next year or two. Basically, I’m spanning the paranormal/horror genre from super cozy to intense, and I’m loving every minute of it.

It’s a dark and stormy night…and Amelia Bates is caught in the rain. Life hasn’t always been kind to her, and being a ghostseer certainly doesn’t make things any easier.
Glowing warmly through the autumnal downpour is her safest haven: the library. Amelia, the newly hired librarian, has always relished the comfort of curling up with a novel, vastly preferring it to the company of humans (alive or ghostly).
But Amelia is shocked to discover the building is full of more than quiet stories and warm cups of tea. There are curious, talkative patrons, a shy, bespectacled head librarian who makes her heart skip a beat, and three quirky spirits causing paranormal havoc that endangers the future of the library.
To help the ghosts and save the building, Amelia will have to gather all her bravery and wits, because learning to trust others might just be the first step to a happily ever after she only thought was possible in books.
