1–What is the title of your latest release?
2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
Office romance turns bad, with deadly results, and no one is telling the truth.
3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
Most of my books take place in New York City, where I’ve lived most of my life. The law firm in the book is modeled on the places where I’ve worked.
4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?
Yes, no, and maybe. Yes, because he’s named after my best friend. No, at the start of the book because he’s all about himself and work. Maybe, at the end of the book, just to hear his story.
5–What are three words that describe your protagonist?
Smart, lonely, hopeful.
6–What’s something you learned while writing this book?
That people have very strong feelings regarding Me Too and they’re not always what you think they’ll be.
7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
I edit as I draft, nearly a page at a time.
8–What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
I look forward to my first cup of coffee every morning. But on the more indulgent side, I could eat ice cream 24/7. Don’t even care about the flavor (so long as it’s not rum raisin).
9–Describe your writing space/office!
I work out of a little enclave in the upstairs hallway. I originally wanted my desk to sit on the dining room table so I would be in the middle of the house and could see everything around me, but my wife vetoed that and set me upstairs, which satisfied my requirement that there be no walls around me.
10–Who is an author you admire?
I recently heard Anthony Horowitz speak and was amazed at the breadth and quality of his work – children’s books, TV, James Bond, Sherlock Holmes, multiple mystery series. He was also very charming and nice to my wife, who told him that he was her favorite author as I stood there and smiled.
11–Is there a book that changed your life?
Not to wax too philosophical, but they all do in a way. But truly altered its course . . . reading John Grisham’s The Firm made me think I could write a novel one day, and To Kill a Mockingbird made me want to become a lawyer.
12–Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.
My agent called me and said, “I sold it!” And I said, “You mean like it’s going to be in bookstores and people will read it?”
13–What’s your favorite genre to read?
Books my wife recommends.
14–What’s your favorite movie?
The Dark Knight — until a better Batman movie is made.
15–What is your favorite season?
Winter. I know, but it’s my favorite.
16–How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
I’m a New Year’s Eve baby, so it’s always a celebration. When my kids were little, I liked to celebrate with them, but no young adult should have to ring in the New Year with their parents, so our family tradition is that I make a cassoulet and we have friends come over.
17–What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

18–What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
I’ve embarking on a quest with my stepson to eat every one of the highly ranked best burgers in NYC. We’ve done about 6 so far.
19–What do you do when you have free time?
We have a new puppy, and she takes a lot of time and gives a lot of love. Her name is Agatha Christie, so yes, we’re those kinds of people.
20–What can readers expect from you next?
Just submitted my newest, which is untitled at the moment, about a former champion runner who has fallen on hard times and returns to his childhood home to investigate the death of his brother. I think it’s terrific, but I’m the only one who’s read it so far.

Adam Mitzner grew up in East Brunswick, New Jersey, which is about an hour outside of New York City. he graduated from Brandeis University with a B.A. and M.A. in politics, and from there went directly on to law school at the University of Virginia.After law school, he joined the litigation department of a large New York City law firm, and after a few more stops, is currently the head of the litigation department of Pavia & Harcourt LLP, which is located in midtown Manhattan. He has always been interested in writing, and yet, oddly enough, never took any courses in college (or after) and actually never seriously tried to write until a few years ago. He showed a first draft of his work to a friend whose brother is an agent for cookbooks, and he suggested that Adam retain a private editor, Ed Stackler.Meeting Ed was the turning point. He was the first person who thought he had publishable talent, and working with him was like taking every creative writing course he missed in college. Of equal importance, when his first novel was finished, Ed hooked him up with my agent, Scott Miller of Trident Publishing.And, even though Scott is a superb agent, his first novel didn’t sell. There was interest among a few houses, but no offers.So, back to the drawing board. For his next work he decided to try something different from a legal thriller, and he wrote a political one, focusing on the nomination of a Supreme Court Justice.
