Amity Hope | Will a Nemesis Turned Fellow Matchmaker Turn to Life Partner?

July 21, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release?

PINE CREEK MATCHMAKER

2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

When Caleb Weaver returns to Pine Creek to help out his family, he doesn’t intend to stay in a town where he feels he isn’t wanted. Sadie Ziegler isn’t too happy about her best friend’s brother, her childhood nemesis, returning to their Amish community. But when the two of them are coerced into working on a fundraiser, then team up to do a little bit of matchmaking, the realize they have a knack for working well together. When everyone around them falls in love, will they succumb to their growing feelings too? Or will the secret Caleb’s keep tear them apart forever?

3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

I live in Northern Minnesota and frequent an Amish market in a nearby town. I thought it would be a fun, unique setting for Pine Creek Matchmaker.

4–Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?

Sure would!

5–What are three words that describe your hero?

Genuine. Compassionate. Hunky.

6–What’s something you learned while writing this book?

I learned a whole lot about the Amish while writing this entire series. I find it interesting that their weddings are all day affairs, starting in early morning and often ending after dark. Church services are three hours long and sermons are given in high-German. They don’t believe in insurance, so when a family is in need, the entire community rallies together in support. This gave me the idea for Pine Creek Matchmaker.

7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

I edit as I go, then set the manuscript aside for a month or more, if I can, and look at it again.

8–What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

Nachos.

9–Describe your writing space/office!

A desk and over course an overflowing bookshelf. A wall full of story idea sticky notes. There’s always a cat or two and usually my dog, Paige is lingering nearby. In a nutshell, my office is organized chaos.

10–Who is an author you admire?

Colleen Coble

11–Is there a book that changed your life?

Where the Red Fern Grows. I read it in fifth grade. It is one of the few books that has ever made me cry and I’ve never forgotten that.

12–Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)

My agent actually sent an email. I had worked with Entangled before, but on young adult novels, so signing on with an Amish venture was a new experience.

13–What’s your favorite genre to read?

Romantic suspense.

14–What’s your favorite movie?

Can I answer with a series? I have to answer with a whole series. I love Murder, She Baked on Hallmark. They’re based off the books by Joanne Fluke and they take place in Minnesota, where I live. So much fun!

15–What is your favorite season?

Autumn. It’s so beautiful.

16–How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

Quietly, with my family. If there’s cheesecake involved and a boat ride, even better.

17–What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

Not exactly recent, but This is Us is the last tv show I was hooked on. I’m still mourning the loss. I haven’t found anything else I really want to watch since it ended. I guess it give me more time to read instead. And in that case, I’d recommend Denise Hunter and Colleen Coble.

18–What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

Good old fashioned comfort food. Homemade mac and cheese tops the list…along with the aforementioned nachos.

19–What do you do when you have free time?

I like taking long walks with my crazy, high-energy dog in the futile hope that I can wear her out. I also enjoy cooking even though I’m not very good at it.

20–What can readers expect from you next?

I write for Harlequin’s Love Inspired Suspense line under Amity Steffen. I have a few books out already, but over the next year I’ll be releasing a three-book series that I’m pretty excited about. It revolves around the Montgomery siblings whose family owns Big Sky Ranch in Montana. Writing suspense is relatively new for me but so much fun!

PINE CREEK COURTSHIP by Amity Hope

Pine Creek Courtship

Love may be right around the corner in the heartwarming, sweet, and gentle Pine Creek series from Amity Hope.

After the death of her beloved father, Emma Ziegler just wants to keep her family’s maple syrup farm afloat and raise her two young siblings. But when her meddling aunt’s first choice of a husband for her turns out to be Emma’s last choice—Pine Creek’s most notorious bachelor—Emma grows desperate. Her aunt won’t listen, no matter how much she tries to tell her the man in no way embodies the Amish values of faith or hard work.

Kind and industrious Levi Bontrager has always wanted to protect his best friend Emma, even after a secret from their youth left them growing apart. Which is why he steps in to claim that Emma cannot wed anyone else, as she is currently courting him. Yes, the small lie leaves him feeling guilty, but Levi’s hope is that if he can win back the beautiful Emma’s trust, he can also win over her heart…for real.

But can a courtship that began just for show ever blossom into a true romance that could save both their futures?
