How would you describe your family or your childhood?
Well, I’m the sister of a duke. My family is vast and I’m the youngest of eight children, which meant I was under the thumb of either my nanny or my governess until my first Season. I didna follow in the footsteps of my elder sister, Grace, who attended Northbourne Seminary for Young Ladies to lose her Scottish accent. I’m far to partial to Scotland to lose my burr.
What was your greatest talent?
I’m a horsewoman through and through. Had I been born a man, I would have become a jockey for certain.
Where do you live?
That depends on the time of year. During the Season we oft stay in the duke’s London town house. We spend at least two months in summer at Stack Castle in the far northeast of Scotland. But my favorite of all the duke’s residences is Newhailes, which is only a short carriage ride from Edinburgh. The manor house is situated on the Firth of Forth and the stables are enormous!
Do you have any enemies?
Not that I’m aware of…at least not until my story begins.
Do you have children, pets, both, or neither?
I have a racehorse, Poseidon, who is far faster than my brother realized when he purchased him for me!
What do you do for a living?
I beg your pardon. I am a lady.
Greatest source of joy?
Pushing Poseidon to his limit at breakneck speed, crouched over his withers, urging him on with my red hair streaking through the wind!
What do you do to entertain yourself or have fun?
Please do not reveal my confidence, but I am secretly taking jockey lessons. There is nothing more exhilarating that commanding the pace of one of the fastest animals in the world with nothing to stand in your way!
What is your greatest personal failing, in your view?
Well, no gentleman of the ton seems to want to court me. Not only do I have red hair and freckles, I am far to outspoken and willful, very much unlike my namesake.
What is the most pressing problem you have at the moment?
This is my first season, and whilst my dowry is substantial, my dearest friend, Kitty, is receiving dozens of callers while the only lads who have come to call on me have been fortune-seekers!
