1–What is the title of your latest release?
2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
It’s the Amazing Race but with vampires!
3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
I wanted there to be a mixture of places I’ve traveled to and places I’ve always wanted to go! For instance, I’ve always wanted to go to Transylvania, so I had a blast researching the area for the book.
4–Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?
Absolutely! I adore Theo and I love her personality and no-nonsense attitude.
5–What are three words that describe your hero?
Aiden is sweet, sarcastic, and resilient.
6–What’s something you learned while writing this book?
I learned about Patagonia, which is one of the places Theo and Aiden visit for the Night Race competition. It’s now firmly secured on my bucket list, especially Torres del Paine National Park.
7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
I’ll spellcheck after finishing a chapter, but other than that, I don’t edit until I am totally done. For some reason, it messes up my flow!
8–What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
Fried Georgia wild shrimp!
9–Describe your writing space/office!
I actually work at my kitchen table so I can be near my husband when I write! I don’t enjoy writing in isolation so I’ll usually hang out with him and pop in headphones so I can zone into the world I’m working on.
10–Who is an author you admire?
Natasha Boyd—she’s one of my all-time favorites and I love everything she’s written.
11–Is there a book that changed your life?
Twilight by Stephanie Meyer. I always loved reading as a child, but that love unfortunately waned for a time when I went to college. When Twilight came out, I fell in love with reading all over again and have been going strong ever since. It’s also a book that reignited my lifelong dream of becoming an author.
12–Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)
Answer: ten years and had garnered one rejection after another, but I kept going, kept believing—thanks to the amazing encouragement from my husband. Then finally it happened with Painting the Lines. I received the email from Charissa Weaks that she’d like to take the story and I cried on the spot—just tears of joy and excitement. I happened to check that email at the end of a class and my students cheered for me and shared in my happiness, and then my sweet husband came to the school on my planning period to celebrate! I’m so thankful for Charissa taking a chance on me. It changed my life and I’m forever grateful for her and City Owl Press (Tina Moss and Yelena Casale).
13–What’s your favorite genre to read?
I love romance of any genre, especially contemporary romance, and Gothic romance.
14–What’s your favorite movie?
Pride and Prejudice (2005 version). It’s my go to. Had a great day? Watch Pride and Prejudice. Had a rough day? Watch Pride and Prejudice. It just never gets old, and that Darcy hand flex gets me every time.
15–What is your favorite season?
Fall! I love cooler weather, cozy candles and blankets, Halloween, and all things black cats and bats.
16–How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
Spending time with my husband, and typically in a bookstore after eating one of my favorite meals!
17–What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
I’m currently listening to The Gilded Gentleman podcast and love it—I love learning about history, so this one has been very interesting to listen to. I just recently read Carley Fortune’s Every Summer After and can’t recommend it enough. It’s one of my favorite reads of the year. As far as movies/shows, I would recommend Midnight Mass—I’m still thinking about it—and I’m currently on season 2 of Only Murders in the Building and am enjoying it so much. Martin Short’s character, Oliver, is my favorite.
18–What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
Italian food is my favorite! Pesto pasta and bruschetta…mmmm.
19–What do you do when you have free time?
I love hanging out with my husband, as well as writing, reading, and traveling in my free time.
20–What can readers expect from you next?
I’m working on the final book in the Vampire Reality Show series, as well as the final book in my tennis rom-com series, Ace of Hearts. Those should both be out next year!
