Ella Stone | 20 Questions: LIFE SUCKS

August 4, 2022

1–What is the title of your latest release?

Bloodsucker’s Blog Book 1, LIFE SUCKS.

2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

Bridget Jones meets The Vampire Diaries for the social media generation.

3–What do you love about the setting of your book?

That’s it’s so every day. Every person can relate to Ryn’s situation and where she is, and I think that’s why you really feel for her.

4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?

Yes absolutely. She doesn’t always get things right, but she has a good heart. Even if it doesn’t beat.

5–What are three words that describe your protagonist?

Fun, Passionate. Scared.

6–What’s something you learned while writing this book?

I spent a lot of time looking into blood — how often you can donate, how much you can lose, how often the body replenishes it, etc.

7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

I always have to get a full first draft down before I edit.

8–What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

Ooh, I just love food, but chocolate or mango sticky rice.

9–Describe your writing space/office!

A little desk tucked by the stairs in the living area of our house. We only have a very small home so we just had to squeeze it in wherever we could manage!

10–Who is an author you admire?

So many, but I would I say Helen Harper. Incredible writer and amazing human.

11–Is there a book that changed your life?

I’m not sure, but I would say books like The Borrowers and The Faraway Tree were the first books to really help me escape.

12–Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.

There was no great epiphany for this, I wrote a book and just hit publish on Amazon. But a year later I got an email from a senior editor at Penguin Random House asking about the rights to my book. While ultimately the book didn’t get picked up, it was an amazing confirmation that I was good enough to do this and that spurred me on.

13–What’s your favorite genre to read?

Don’t do this to me! I can’t. I tend not to read thrillers or horror, but anything else I love.

14–What’s your favorite movie?

The eternal sunshine of the spotless mind

15–What is your favorite season?

Autumn

16–How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

With my family. My daughter likes to make and decorate a cake for me, so it’s always lots of fun.

17–What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

Well television wise, I’d have to say Stranger Things. I mean, the writing is incredible. I’ve been reading so many great things at the minute. I’ve just read Ithaca by Claire North and it is fantastic.

18–What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

Thai food. I lived in Thailand for 4 years and nothing will ever top their cuisine!

19–What do you do when you have free time?

We are lucky enough to live by the water, so a nice stroll by the riverfront and an ice-cream is always a great day. I am also part of a choir, which is a lot of fun. And obviously, reading.

20–What can readers expect from you next?

The rest of the series! It will be coming to you soon.

Life Sucks

Social media can be murder.

Ever since a family day trip left me, Merrewyn Colt, with a severe case of vampirism my whole world has been limited to a dusty old farmhouse far from the city I grew up in. For seven long years I’ve waited for my mother to find a magical cure.

But a disruption to my blood supply has forced me to venture from the safety I’ve known and re-engage with the outside world. Bumping into the former love-of-my-life’s little brother was not quite what I had in mind. Forced to fight crippling social anxiety and the fear I might just rip someone’s throat out, I’ve done the only sane thing available to me … I’ve started a blog so I can overshare and seek validation from random people on the internet.

But when a series of ‘unusual’ deaths with a supernatural edge occur, my new online friends are only too quick to peg me as the killer.

Stopping the real culprit before he can kill again is the only way to halt the murders, and more importantly prove my innocence to my followers. But will the truth cost me more than my online popularity.
