Fresh FIction Box Not To Miss

Ava Ross | Fae Lords, Murder Mysteries, and Romance

December 20, 2022

1–What is the title of your latest release?

ICE LORD’S BRIDE, book 1 of the duology, Bride of the Fae

2–What’s the book about?

Humans and the fae have formed a truce, and Raven is one of a group of women traveling to the fae world where she must choose a husband from among fae aristocracy. Only one lord is forbidden, the cursed ice lord, Elion. But a chance meet-up with him is followed by a kiss, and after that, Raven will do anything to be with him. Then one of the women is found dead, and “your next” is written in blood on Raven’s bedroom wall. With her life in danger, Raven must decide if she dares remain in the fae kingdom with Elion or return to the human world where she’ll never see him again. Expect danger, a twisty plot, magic, and steamy romance.

3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

Like many of us, I’m fascinated by magical worlds. I usually write Sci-fi Romance but have also written YA fantasy under a different pen name. I wanted to see if I could write a magical world using the tropes my SFR readers enjoy, like fated mates, scarred/tortured hero, forbidden love, and bride of a monster. Bride of the Fae is the result.

4–What are three words that describe your hero?

Scarred, ruthless, devoted

5–What’s something you learned while writing this book?

I originally wrote this duology for Kindle Vella. My norm is to complete a book, then go back and feed in extra details/flesh things out. I wrote this duology as a serial, which means I wrote a few scenes ahead, gave them a solid edit, then published them on vella without knowing how the series would end. Since I don’t plot, that wasn’t “too” scary. But since the prior scenes were published, they were essentially set in stone. Writing in this format was a challenge and a lot more fun than I thought it would be. Will I do it again? I don’t know. There were times when I was yanking on my hair and sighing, trying to figure out haw to get Raven out of the mess I’d made in prior scenes.

6–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

After 60+ books, I write a fairly clean draft, and quickly. I write more than one book a month. As I’m writing, if I need to add a detail, I often do so at that time, i.e., add a secondary character or a clue about a villain. After I’ve finished, I do a solid edit, wait a week or so, then run through the book again. Then it’s off to my amazing beta reader and proofreader.

7–What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

Pie is my favorite food group.

8–Describe your writing space/office!

I write on a laptop at a gorgeous old desk my husband found at a yard sale for $50 and completely restored. My desk sits near a window where I can look out at squirrels, birds, and even the occasional deer. Well, and at the moment, mounds of snow.

9–What’s your favorite genre to read?

I love paranormal mystery/suspense. Since I mostly write SFR, I read a lot in that genre. Paranormal books are a palate cleanser for me.

10—What’s your best piece of writing advice?

Never give up. I started writing almost fourteen years ago, and honestly, that book was SO bad! Remember the YA dystopian days? Lol. I randomly switched pov, the story rambled and had very little plot, and I incorporated every idea I could think of, even magic! But you know what? I learned from that book and each book I’ve written since. Your writing brain is like a muscle. The more you exercise it, the stronger it becomes.

11–What’s your favorite movie?

I love the Jurassic Park series. They need to make more!

12–What is your favorite season?

Summer. I love the sun, the heat, and even the humidity.

13–What’s your favorite cuisine?

I traveled to Italy this past summer with my family, and the food there was the best I’ve ever had. So lately, I’ve been experimenting with Italian food like what we ate in Rome. I’ve even been ordering olive oil and parmesan from Italy – an indulgence that my pocketbook is complaining about.

14–What do you do when you have free time?

I love to walk and try to keep my Fitbit happy with 12-14k steps a day. I also love to travel and can’t wait to plan my next adventure.

15–What can readers expect from you next?

I’m so excited about what’s coming next!

First is ICE LORD’S FATE, Book 2 of my Bride of the Fae Series, releases December 23. Expect jaw-dropping surprises, twisty danger for Raven & Elion, and swoony romance. A guaranteed HEA, of course.

After that, you can expect the last books of my Beastly Alien Boss Series, including Domesticating the Alien and Handcuffing the Alien. I had a lot of fun coming up with those titles. Each book features a woman traveling to an alien world to take a job. In Domesticating, she’s hired to teach an alien warlord sophistication so he can woo a bride. In Handcuffing, they’re interstellar cops trapped on an alien prison planet. Pirating the Alien and Schooling the Alien will finish out that series.

Next spring, I’m releasing something new, and I’m on the edge of my seat. I can’t wait to share this series! Expect swoony romance, sweet monster heroes, and humor. Details coming soon!

ICE LORD’S BRIDE by Ava Ross

Bride of the Fae #1

Ice Lord's Bride

I must marry one of the fae, but the forbidden ice lord wants me.

To secure a human-fae truce, I’m one of five women traveling to their magical kingdom, where we’ll be courted by fae aristocracy. We have one month to choose a husband from among them.

Only Elion, the arrogant, beastly ice lord is forbidden. His torturous scars make the other women gasp. His icy words rip them to shreds. His touch is colder than frost. He lurks in the shadows, never coming out into the light.

One stolen moment with Elion, and I’m intrigued. A kiss, and I’ll do anything to call this brutishly handsome lord mine.

Then one of the women is found dead. When you’re next appears on my bedroom wall, written in blood, it’s clear there’s more going on here than solidifying the human-fae truce.

If I’m not careful, I won’t become a bride of the fae. I’ll wind up dead.

Ice Lord’s Bride is book one in a fantasy romance duology. It heats to a high sizzle and comes with a guaranteed happily ever after.

Warning: Don’t read this book unless you’re open to steamy romance, mystery & danger, and you’re intrigued by the idea of becoming a bride to a beastly ice lord.
