Nicci French | In 1990 a Woman Fails to Turn up to Her Husband’s 50th Birthday Party
Author Guest / March 21, 2024

1–What is the title of your latest release? HAS ANYONE SEEN CHARLOTTE SALTER? 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? In 1990 a woman fails to turn up to her husband’s 50th birthday party, devastating her family. Thirty years a young female detective and two podcasters try to solve the crime. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? The setting is always crucial for us. We wanted a small village by a river flowing into the sea. So we created a fictional village in the real East Anglian landscape where we spend much of our time. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? The real question is whether they would hang out with us. There are two protagonists in this book. The first, Etty Salter, is too damaged by the loss of her mother to hang out with anyone. The second, detective Maud O’Connor is too young, too cool, too full of life, to hang out with two elderly writers! 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? Etty: mourning, numb, searching. Maud: fierce, determined, optimistic. 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? The saying that ‘time is a great…

Leslie O’Sullivan | A Centuries-old Fairy Bargain
Author Guest / March 21, 2024

1–What is the title of your latest release? A KINGDOM OF SOULS AND SHADOWS, Fae Destiny Book 1 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? All her life, Eala Duir, a young college professor, has skirted the edges of a fantasy world. When a cryptic message in her grandmother’s will sends her to Ireland, a handsome stranger with mysterious ties to the Fae realm swears she’s been sent to help him fulfill a centuries-old fairy bargain. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? I’ve always been a fan of Irish folk and fairy tales and loved to imagine what I would do if ever confronted with a faerie bargain. It seemed perfect to set my story in Ireland, the home of those fantastic stories, where my FMC faces just such a predicament. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Yes, Eala and I would totally get one another. We share the experience of being university educators and a deep love for Celtic and Irish history and myth. 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? Loyal – Practical – Inquisitive 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? I learned about…

Parker Adams | L.A.’s Finest Safecracker, is Kidnapped and Forced to Participate in the Heist of the Century
Author Guest / March 20, 2024

1–What is the title of your latest release? THE LOCK BOX 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Monna Locke, L.A.’s finest safecracker, is kidnapped and forced to participate in the heist of the century. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? It needed to be a tropical location, but L.A.-based Monna needed to feel lost and out-of-place, so Miami became the obvious setting and I think it worked out pretty well.  That said, I really wanted to get a trip to Miami out of it, but COVID kept that from happening! 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? I would, but Monna’s not really the “hang out” type.  Some of the people who need safes opened discretely—Monna’s speciality—aren’t very nice, so she’s plenty busy and when she’s not, she’s learned to keep to herself to try and avoid any trouble.  Although, as The Lock Box shows, trouble tends to find her anyway. 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? Strong, mechanically inclined, and loyal. 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? Every one of my books teaches me something about technology, so in this one I learned all…

James Goodhand | What If You Woke Up Each Morning in a Different, Random Day of Your Life?
Author Guest / March 20, 2024

1–What is the title of your latest release? THE DAY TRIPPER 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? What if you woke up each morning in a different, random day of your life? This is the situation twenty-year-old Alex Dean finds himself in after a perfect evening in 1995 ends in disaster. Doomed to never knowing where – or rather when – each new dawn will take him, he must navigate his way through the years and piece together what happened after that fateful night. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? London is a city of contrasts, of opulence and destitution in close proximity. It’s a natural home for Alex’s story, his life veering between success and failure but for a few fatefully timed decisions. Also, a lot of the action takes place on the banks of the River Thames, the ever-flowing, murky waters themselves taking on their own mystical role in the story. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Absolutely I would! I’d probably agree to meet him for a quick beer after work and end up rolling home at four the next morning. He’s a bad influence…

Avery Flynn | A Hot Hockey RomCom That Will Have You Giggling and Fanning Yourself
Author Guest / March 19, 2024

What is the title of your latest release? WALK OF SHAME is my latest and it is just a good time in book form.   What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Walk of Shame is a hot hockey RomCom that will have you giggling and fanning yourself as Astrid and Cal fall for each other despite their best attempts that this time will be the last  time. Spoilers: It never is.   How did you decide where your book was going to take place? So Harbor City is my fake New York and I absolutely love setting my books here because like the real New York, it has just about everything.   Would you hang out with your heroine in real life? Absolutely! Astrid and I would kick ass at bingo night – and since I’m a coffee drinker instead of a Diet Coke addict like her we wouldn’t have any problem keeping our drinks straight.   What are three words that describe your hero? Cal is a sweet and yet spicy cinnamon roll.   What’s something you learned while writing this book? I definitely learned a lot about career ruining hockey injuries.   Do you edit as…

Brianna Labuskes | Two Sisters, a Horrific Betrayal and an Extraordinary Protest Against the Nazis
Author Guest / March 19, 2024

1–What is the title of your latest release? THE LOST BOOK OF BONN 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? A librarian finds a book of poetry while working with Monuments Men to return Nazi-plundered books to their rightful owners after World War II. The hunt leads her to two sisters, a horrific betrayal and an extraordinary protest against the Nazis at the height of the war. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? The people and events I wanted to center the book around were all set in Germany. The Edelweiss Pirates—a group of young, anti-fascist Germans—were primarily based in areas such as Cologne. Bonn is a small town outside the city with beautiful hiking paths, which were favored by the Pirates. The Rose Street Protest took place in Berlin, and the warehouse where the Monuments Men worked was just outside Frankfurt. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Absolutely. Bonn has three protagonists: Emmy, Annelise and Christina. Annelise and Christina are sisters who are flawed in different ways: Annelise is righteous whereas Christina can be easily led to make bad decisions. But both are kind and courageous at the…

Elizabeth Everett | A Woman Apothecary Needs the Help of a Grumpy Private Investigator
Author Guest / March 19, 2024

1–What is the title of your latest release? THE LOVE REMEDY 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Woman apothecary needs the help of a grumpy private investigator to find a missing formula. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? All my historical romances have been set in London in the early 1800’s. I find this part of Victoria’s reign to be fascinating. One of the reasons I write historical romance is to draw parallels between history and the present. This specific period and place is ripe with examples of what has changed —and what hasn’t for women in society. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Oh, absolutely. I have a soft spot for over achievers who never put themselves first. 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? Lucy Peterson is empathetic, wry, and genuine. 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? I learned that the Chelsea Botanical Garden was once the Apothecaries Garden and off-limits to anyone not a member of the Apothocaries Society! 7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done? I tell myself to just draft and then edit later,…
