Brandy Schillace | Conversations in Character with Jo Jones
Author Guest / February 12, 2024

Book Title: FRAMED WOMEN OF ARDEMORE HOUSE Character Name: Jo Jones   How would you describe your family or your childhood? Oh gosh, how much time do you have? I grew up shuffled between my mother and my aunt (Gary, Indiana and Chicago, Illinois). Mum never spoke about her life in England—never told me my dad’s name—was estranged from, well, everyone except my aunt (who died when I was in college). It was a weird, lonely way to grow up; mum didn’t want to admit I had autism and basically wouldn’t talk about anything unpleasant. Then, when she passed, I turned out to be the last surviving member of a family I didn’t know anything about. It was raining that day; I tend to remember the little useless details. It was raining, and I had just inherited a mystery property from mystery people. Heading to the UK didn’t really help clearing things up, though. Murder tends to make things complicated like that.   What was your greatest talent? In addition to being autistic, I am hyperlexic—that’s what they call it when a child starts talking and reading at an absurdly young age. And by absurd, I mean 9 months old….

Kari Lee Townsend | Mayhem on the Mind + Giveaway!
Author Guest , Giveaways / February 12, 2024

Hi there. My name is Kari Lee Townsend, and MAYHEM ON THE MIND is the fifth book in my Kalli Ballas Mystery series. Think MONK meets MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING! I sure do have a blast writing these books with the crazy Greek mamas getting into all sorts of trouble. Kalli is adopted, and her boyfriend Detective Nik Stevens is only half Greek, but that’s Greek enough. The mamas have babies on the mind. Meanwhile, Kalli and Nik haven’t even finished the remodel on the house they split, let alone talked about marriage and babies. They’re turning their two apartments into one house, but when a murder happens, mayhem ensues and any plans for the future are put on hold. I hope everyone is coping with this crazy winter and that our spring will be fabulous reading weather.   M is for Mamas – Greek or otherwise who cause all sorts of mischief! A is for Aphrodite’s – Kalli’s parents’ Greek restaurant. H is for Hera’s Halo – Aunt Tasoula’s pride and joy salon. E is for Evil – Aunt Tasoula’s arch nemesis winds up dead at their 40th class reunion, and she’s the number one suspect! Evil is…

Iris Yamashita | What Was Once Thought An Accident Looks More Like Murder
Author Guest / February 12, 2024

1–What is the title of your latest release? VILLAGE IN THE DARK 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Detective Cara Kennedy thought she’d lost her husband and son in a hiking accident, but harrowing evidence has emerged pointing to murder–and she will stop at nothing to find the truth. Intertwined in the story are Ellie Wright, the innkeeper at Point Mettier (where all 205 residents live in a single high-rise building) whose estranged son has just been found dead, and Mia Upash, a half-indigenous young waitress from an off-the-grid village run by women. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? Since this book is a sequel to City Under One Roof, I knew that I was going to include the fictional city of Point Mettier. I also had had an idea for an isolated community run by women and Alaska is the perfect place to set it in. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? I would definitely like to meet her, but she would be too intense for me to be a best friend. 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? Relentless, haunted, righteous 6–What’s something you learned…

Sara Ackerman | An Action Packed Dual-timeline Novel Featuring a Ground-breaking Female Aviator
Author Guest / February 9, 2024

1–What is the title of your latest release? THE UNCHARTED FLIGHT OF OLIVIA WEST 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? An action packed dual-timeline novel featuring a ground-breaking female aviator and the young woman who uncovers her buried history decades later. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? All of my books are set in Hawai’i, so that was easy! But also, I chose to have Olivia be from San Diego because that is where the aviation company where Charles Lindberg’s plane, The Spirit of St. Louis was built. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Absolutely. Olivia West(1927) and Wren Summers (1987) are fun and multifaceted and inspiring. The kind of women I love to be around. 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? Olivia: feisty, brave, passionate Wren: creative, kind, savvy 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? It never had occurred to me that the first flights to Hawaii took 26 plus hours. I don’t think I would have made it! 7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done? Only a little bit here and there. Mostly, I wait until…

GennaRose Nethercott | Author-Reader Match: FIFTY BEASTS TO BREAK YOUR HEART
Author Guest / February 8, 2024

Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader Match,” where we introduce you to authors you may fall in love with. It’s our great pleasure to Present GennaRose Nethercott!   Writes: To quote my – actual – Tinder profile: “I write books about shape shifters and living houses and parties full of ghosts. I may or may not have a puppet theater stowed in the trunk of my car.” In short, I’m a fiction writer and folklorist—and all my stories are tied to the strange and the uncanny. I like to take the scraps of old stories and re-stitch them into new ones. Ghosts playing spin the bottle, or chicken legged houses from Slavic mythology hanging out in a Walgreens parking lot—that’s the kind of stuff that tickles me. When it comes to my work, you can bet on the monstrous and miraculous… but here’s the thing: I don’t care about what monster stories say about monsters. I care what monster stories say about people. My new book, FIFTY BEASTS TO BREAK YOUR HEART, is a collection of short stories in which the supernatural and the dreamy are used to examine…

Vampyre girl, Alpha Were, arranged marriage! 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? I doubt Misery would want to hang out with me (or anyone else except like, three people). 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? Loyal, sneaky, single-minded. 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? That wolves can only have just a couple of eye colors. 7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done? I edit forward, so I don’t go back to edit something that I’ve decided to change while I’m drafting, but I write the rest of the book while keeping that change in mind. (A tip I picked up from the amazing Jesse Sutanto, btw). 8–What’s your favorite foodie indulgence? I’ve been obsessed with Nutella Biscuits lately. 9–Describe your writing space/office! It’s currently a mess, because…

Sarah Marsh | Exclusive Excerpt A SIGN OF HER OWN
Author Guest / February 7, 2024

One Watch Today’s mistake is a jar of peaches. It sits on the parlor table, the halves inside plump with sunshine. Mr. Bell, who has unexpectedly come to visit, doesn’t seem to notice the jar at first. He stands by the hearth, too agitated by his enthusiasm to be seated. My fiancé, Harmon Bardsley, stands only to match him, but can’t keep his words apace. I leave my careful watch of their lips and look at the jar because of the word I’ve seen. Surely I’m mistaken. The men aren’t even looking at the jar, so why would they be discussing the peaches? Peach. Its shape floats on Mr. Bell’s mouth. The pinch of the p, followed by a rounded push of the lips, sending the last syllable hard across the tongue. My hand nearly reaches for my pocket, as if the feather from our lessons might still be found there. It’s been a long time since I thought of the feather. I would balance it on my knuckles and make it quiver with the puff of my ps. Puh-puh-puh. I stop myself just in time, folding my hands against my skirts. Why has Mr. Bell come? For now, Harmon…

Larissa Ione | Author-Reader Match: LEGACY OF TEMPTATION
Author Guest / February 7, 2024

Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader Match” where we introduce you to authors you may fall in love with. It’s our great pleasure to present Larissa Ione!   Writes: Dark, gritty paranormal romance with a generous helping of humor and a sprinkling of campiness. Her most recent novel, LEGACY OF TEMPTATION, is a prime example, with a hero who is the son of the Horseman of the Apocalypse known as Death, and a heroine who works for an agency dedicated to eradicating Logan’s people. Oh, and he has a pet hellhound. That’s right. A PET HELLHOUND.   About: Not surprisingly, I have a passion for reading and writing. But I’m also passionate about animals, healthy food and living, and travel. When I’m not writing, I’m working out (or playing games) on my VR headset, playing with my dogs, or traveling with my husband to wherever a plane or my RV will take me. But chances are, I’m still writing…or at least, thinking about writing.   What I’m looking for in my ideal reader match: The perfect reader for LEGACY OF TEMPTATION is someone who: Isn’t squeamish. Enjoys being inside…
