I grew up shuffled between my mother and my aunt (Gary, Indiana and Chicago, Illinois). It was a weird, lonely way to grow up; mum didn’t want to admit I had autism and basically wouldn’t talk about anything unpleasant. Then, when she passed, I turned out to be the last surviving member of a family I didn’t know anything about. It was raining that day; I tend to remember the little useless details. My father had a tobacco farm with animals and crops. We are five: Bartolo, Perfecta, me, Epifanio and Felipe. Our parents died many years ago, and Bartolo still lives in a small farm in Puerto Rico, but the rest came here to Woronoco to live and work here where I work at the paper mill in Woronoco, Massachusetts.
