Mur Lafferty | Murder She Wrote Meets Babylon 5
Author Guest / November 9, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release? CHAOS TERMINAL – Midsolar Murders 2 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? “Murder She Wrote” Meets “Babylon 5” – an amateur sleuth is tired of people dying around her all the time and decides to appeal to a space station to live there, hoping that living among aliens will stop the deaths. It does, until more humans show up. Now, in Chaos Terminal, Mallory must investigate a murder on behalf of an old friend as an insidious force threatens the station and everyone aboard. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? I wanted a place like Babylon 5, a diplomatic hub, but this time hesitant to let humans aboard. The aliens are peaceful, but don’t quite know what to do with this new, strange race they’ve discovered. Station Eternity is a sentient station, an alien herself, with her own personality and agency. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Probably not; murders happen around her all the time. It would be dangerous. 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? Driven, frustrated, connected 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? I…

Katharine J. Adams | A Witch Risks Her Soul to Save Her Sister, Falls in Love, and Ignites a Rebellion
Author Guest / November 9, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release? TONIGHT, I BURN   2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Bisexual, death-walking witch risks her soul to save her sister, falls in love with a man who deals in lies and a woman who weaves the truth, and ignites a magical rebellion that will change the world.   3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? The place formed around the story. At first, Penny is incredibly isolated, her world narrowed down to the Colligerate compound where her coven are held in servitude to the nefarious High Warden. As Penny grows, so does her world.   4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? After everything I put Penny through, I’m not sure she’d want to hang out with me! I’d love to take her walking on the beach near my house with the wind blowing around us. We both overthink everything, so we’d need a bit of a buffer, maybe Ella and Mila could come along too.   5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? Bookish, loyal, determined.   6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? You can tell the future…

Sherry Lynn | A Fresh New Maine-set Holiday Cozy
Author Guest / November 8, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release? MURDER UNDER THE MISTLETOE 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? In a fresh new Maine-set holiday cozy, landscaper Kinsley Clark must root out a killer before she becomes the prime suspect. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? I grew up visiting my aunt and uncle who lived on the coast of Maine along a cliff walk and I was desperate to return. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Absolutely! Kinsley loves to work with flowers (as do I) and loves to solve mysteries. A double win in my book! 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? Curious, protective, hard working 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? How to create Kissing Balls! The instructions are in the back of the book so you can try your hand at it too. 7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done? I write a thousand words a day. The next day I edit that content and then write the next thousand. Repeat until complete. I edit again after my editor makes suggestions. 8–What’s your favorite foodie…

Teresa H. Janssen | A Poignant Testament to the Meaning of Family and the Strength of the Human Spirit
Author Guest / November 8, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release? THE WAYS OF WATER 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? This coming-of-age novel takes the reader on an unforgettable journey with young Josie Belle Gore whose life is shaken by world events—economic boom-and-bust, war, and pandemic. Set in early twentieth-century New Mexico, Arizona, and California—where water means everything, it is a poignant testament to the meaning of family and the strength of the human spirit. 3–Why will readers love it? Josie Belle is a brave, complicated protagonist that readers will root for as she overcomes barriers to make a life for herself during one of the most turbulent periods of American history. 4–What was your biggest challenge in writing it? This story is inspired by my grandmother’s early life. She was not a diarist, so I had to piece together events from conversations that we’d had while she was still alive. I made the shift to historical fiction when I realized that there much I did not know about her life; and thus I’d need to create characters, events, imagine conversations, and alter time to sculpt a full narrative. 5–What do you love about the setting? The environment sets the…

Amanda Barratt | Author-Reader Match: THE WARSAW SISTERS
Author Guest / November 8, 2023

Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader Match” where we introduce you to authors you may fall in love with. It’s our great pleasure to present Amanda Barratt!   Writes: I write novels that excavate oft-forgotten fragments of history. Though my stories have spanned a variety of eras, I’m ceaselessly intrigued by the Second World War. In times of some of the greatest evil and inhumanity our world has ever known, there emerged glimmers of courage, resilience, and hope. This juxtaposition is extraordinarily powerful and inspires me as I write. THE WARSAW SISTERS illuminates events and heroes pulled from the pages of history, such as the daring network of women who rescued Jewish children from the Warsaw ghetto and Poland’s secret army that grew into one of the largest resistance movements in occupied Europe. At its heart, it is a novel about women forged by war and the enduing bond between sisters.   About: I’m a self-proclaimed history nerd and my idea of the perfect vacation is wandering museums and historical sites. Research is one of my favorite parts of the story-crafting process and I’ve probably set some kind of…

Gilly Macmillan | Exclusive Excerpt THE MANOR HOUSE
Author Guest / November 7, 2023

SATURDAY Nicole I’m so lucky, Nicole tells herself. If the first thirty- two years of her life were exceptionally ordinary, the last two have been anything but. It’s almost impossible to believe. There are so many younger versions of herself she’d like to travel back in time and describe this new life to and not one of them would believe her. The car’s soft top is down and sun glints off the bonnet. Nicole’s new Chanel sunglasses filter everything the prettiest blush pink, even the lovely sheep grazing in the fields. She doesn’t think she’s ever felt so hopeful or so happy before, not even on her wedding day or the day it was confirmed that she and Tom were lottery winners and were about to become filthy rich. Even so, she drives carefully, hands at ten and two on the wheel. Maybe she’s gripping it a little tighter than usual as her endorphins surge, but she doesn’t consider putting her foot down. Nicole is risk averse; never in her life has she craved an adrenaline rush. Before they were rich, there was nothing impulsive about the tenacious way she sought promotion to the position of administrative manager at Carter,…

Andreina Cordani | Conversations in Character with Charley Sale
Author Guest / November 6, 2023

Book Title: THE TWELVE DAYS OF MURDER Character Name: Charley Sale   How would you describe your family or your childhood? I’m from a loving family, but very ordinary. I lost my mom when I was a teenager. My dad works as a chef, often to very wealthy families, and as a child I’d often go along with him and sit in these vast kitchens marveling at how different life must be for the people who live there.   What was your greatest talent? I always loved acting. It’s why I joined the Murder Masquerade Society at college – I loved the chance to dress up, step out of my old personality and become someone different for the night. There were lavish costumes, gorgeous locations and fiendish plots and for a while it was so much fun. But that was before they all turned against me, before Karl went missing.   Significant other? I try not to think about Matt. We’ve split up but I’m still sleeping on his sofa – I need money for a deposit to rent a new place, which is why I’ve accepted Karl’s sister’s offer. Karl disappeared at our last Murder Masquerade twelve years ago…
