Heather McCollum | Amelia MacLeod Journeys to Wolf Isle for Revenge, Redemption, and to Escape a Cruel Brother
Author Guest / August 23, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release? THE HIGHLANDER’S SECRET AVENGER 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Amelia MacLeod journeys to Wolf Isle for revenge, redemption, & to escape a cruel brother. She doesn’t count on falling in love with the enemy, Drostan Macquarie, a brawny Highlander who continues to rescue her & her kitten. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? I love the western isles of Scotland. So naturally I looked there first for a place to build my Brothers of Wolf Isle series. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Yes! Both Amelia and Drostan are good, courageous people, who get into all sorts of fun trouble. 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? Drostan is dedicated, brawny, golden-hearted. 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? How to throw a caber correctly. 7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done? I edit as I write but then review it several times when it’s totally done. 8–What’s your favorite foodie indulgence? Hot fudge sundae! No nuts. 9–Describe your writing space/office! I have a chair in my office by my window…

Shelley Shepard Gray | A Couple Must Let Go of the Past in Order to Move Forward
Author Guest / August 23, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release? MOVING FORWARD 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Sparks fly when former army officer turned firefighter Greg Tebo first meets transplanted Texan Kristen Werner. At first, it seems that they’re a match made in heaven, until each realizes that they must let go of the past in order to move forward with their relationship. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? I used to live about thirty minutes from Woodland Park, CO. I was fascinated by this thriving town nestled near Pike’s Peak. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? I absolutely would! I love to create characters who I would like to know. 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? Protagonist Greg Tebo:  Heroic, Determined, Injured 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? Since my protagonist suffers from PTSD, I had many conversations with army veterans about the long-term effects PTSD has had on their lives. Although I always felt sympathy for someone struggling with PTSD, those conversations gave me a better understanding about it. 7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done? I…

Laura Zimmermann | A Mother’s Disappearance Changes Everything
Author Guest / August 22, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release? JUST DO THIS ONE THING FOR ME   2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Drew is a high school senior and the sole voice of reason in her family. Just before New Year’s, her mother, who has been juggling multiple scams including a thriving business writing fake reviews and likely social security fraud, leaves Drew in charge of her sister and little brother while she takes off last minute on a fangirl trip. When she doesn’t return, the siblings must find increasingly elaborate and morally compromising ways to keep her disappearance a secret—including running all the side hustles themselves—or risk losing each other, too.   3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? The story always had to be about Midwesterners. For one, we tend to be pragmatic do-it-yourself types, which is a huge part of Drew’s story. Midwestern girls know how to get stuff done. And in this case, the when is as important as the where: Winter is what gets Drew’s family into trouble, and ultimately what gets them out of it.   4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Drew…

Tee O’Fallon | An ATF Agent and His Canine Partner Team Up to Stop an Arsonist
Author Guest / August 22, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release? BURNING JUSTICE 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? An ATF agent and his canine partner must team up with a civilian to stop an arsonist before they can kill again. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? Burning Justice is the second book in my K-9 Special Ops series, all the books for which are set in the Denver, Colorado area. Although I do have my H&H go on a road trip to Leadville, CO. At over 10,000 feet in elevation, Leadville is the highest incorporated city in North America, btw. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? I’d hang out with Brett or Gemma any day! I think I’m secretly in love with all the heroes of my books. Like me, Gemma renovated a house and is a whiz with power tools! I think we’d strike up a serious girl-bond. 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? For Brett – Driven. Haunted. Heroic. 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? I learned an awful lot about arson investigations, something I wasn’t familiar with before. To add realism to the…

Roseanna M. White | Edwardian Circus, Private investigators, Intelligence Work, Spy Mania, and More
Author Guest / August 22, 2023

The Imposters, Ltd. Discreet Disclosures for the Most Discerning   Edwardian circus. Aristocratic siblings forced to (gasp!) work for a living to avoid bankruptcy. Private investigators. Intelligence work. Spy mania. These are the elements that came together to form my new series, The Imposters, and how they came together was so much fun! The premise is that Lord Yates Fairfax and his sister Lady Marigold discovered upon their father’s death that all the entertainments that had made their childhood so charming also nearly bankrupted the estate—the circuses, the theater groups, the acrobats…they’d become family to Marigold and Yates over the years, teaching them all manner of skills aristocrats shouldn’t know, but now they’re broke. Strapped. And they’ll be laughed out of society if they don’t come up with a way to bring in some income. Naturally, these enterprising siblings and their two best friends decided to take matters into their owns hands. They form The Imposters, Ltd., and set about solving the problems of the crème of society through this new elite PI firm…usually by spying on the rest of the crème of society. It’s taught them a lot of lessons they wish they didn’t know about their peers. And…

Erin Flanagan | A Newly Widowed Mother Falls Under the Sway of an Old Acquaintance
Author Guest / August 22, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release? COME WITH ME 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? A newly widowed mother falls under the sway of an old acquaintance whose friends have a history of disappearing. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? I’ve lived my whole life in the Midwest so write predominantly about that region, switching between rural imaginary towns in Iowa and Nebraska, and the city of Dayton, Ohio, where I currently live. I knew this book needed a city, so I set it in Dayton. It’s great to write a city I know so well because I have the map in my head and know where the characters live, how far to downtown, and so on. The only time I fictionalize a place or business in Dayton is if I say something bad about someone there. Like, for Blackout, I didn’t think the university where I work would have wanted me using their name when I basically say they have a sociopath on the payroll. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? I would at the end of the book, lol. In the beginning, Gwen is…

Cate Conte | Conversations in Character with Maddie James
Author Guest / August 21, 2023

Book Title: NINE LIVES AND ALIBIS Character Name: Maddie James   How would you describe your family or your childhood? I adore my family, even when they drive me crazy. I was lucky enough to grow up on idyllic Daybreak Island off the coast of Massachusetts with my parents and grandparents. I’m the oldest of three, all girls, and I have the best memories of growing up here. We lived with my grandparents for a while in their beautiful historic house on the ocean, and I have the best memories of sitting with Grandpa Leo in the reading nook and hitting the beach with Grandma. My family is the reason I came back a decade after I left. And they are probably the reason I will stay.   What was your greatest talent? Lately, my greatest talent seems to be solving murders! I’m also really good at business. The Cat Cafe, JJ’s House of Purrs, is my second business. My business partner Ethan and I ran a juice bar in San Francisco before I dragged him to the island to do this with me. We’re already getting the itch to start something new to supplement the cafe!   Significant other?…

Traci Wilton | Saving a Friend Before He Goes to Jail For Murder
Author Guest / August 21, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release? MRS. MORRIS AND THE WOLFMAN 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? The series is about a widow from Chicago who needs a fresh start after losing her soulmate and takes a chance on a rundown mansion in Salem. Charlene Morris thinks it’s vacant, but it has a permanent ghostly guest, Jack Strathmore. She solves the mystery of his murder and the two become best friends. In this seventh book, Charlene is a mentor to a new business owner, whose wife is tragically poisoned on opening night of their movie theater. Of course, she’s got to step in and save her friend before he goes to jail for murder—death by seasoning salts that he’s created. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? Salem is a magical city! We wanted a place with a lot of character and history, and Salem fit the bill. If you ever get a chance to visit, the locals are so friendly and helpful. By moving Charlene Morris from Chicago to Salem, she gets a complete do-over in her life at the B and B. 4–Would you hang out with your sleuth…

Maddie Day | A Crime-solving Book Group Solve a Murder with a Twist
Author Guest / August 21, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release? MURDER AT A CAPE BOOKSTORE 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? It’s mud season on Cape Cod, and when an ill wind blows in a murder with a twist in the tale, bike shop owner Mackenzie “Mac” Almeida and her crime-solving book group are ready to leaf through the clues. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? This is the fifth in the Cozy Capers Book Group Mysteries, so my Cape Cod fictional village of Westham is the setting by default. 4–Would you hang out with your sleuth in real life? I’d love to spend time with Mac. She’s smart, she has lived and traveled internationally as I have, and she loves reading cozy mysteries. 5–What are three words that describe your sleuth? Loyal. Neat-freak. Family-centered. 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? I learned how to make spring rolls. Recipe testing is always part of writing this series. 7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done? When I begin a writing session, I give a light edit to what I wrote the day before. That gets me back…
