Mary Winters | A Countess as Writer and Crime Solver
Author Guest / March 31, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release? MURDER IN POSTSCRIPT 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Countess Amelia Amesbury, who secretly writes an agony column for a penny paper, must solve the murder of one of her readers. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? I’ve been a longtime reader of historical mysteries and romances, but it wasn’t until I took a trip to London with my family in 2019 that the places I’d read about became “new” again. Seeing Regent’s Park, Piccadilly, Harrods, and other locations that appear in my favorite novels, I knew I had to set my next mystery in London. I went to work as soon as I returned home. 4–Would you hang out with your sleuth in real life? Absolutely! I would love to hang out with Amelia. She’s a countess, yes, but she’s also hardworking and down to earth. She grew up in Somerset, where she worked at her family’s inn, the Feathered Nest. She has a daughter, and I have two daughters. I think we’d be great friends. 5–What are three words that describe your sleuth? Courageous, smart, and unconventional 6–What’s something you learned while…

Carla Simpson | Conversations in Character with Zach Tennant
Author Guest / March 30, 2023

Book Title:  MEMORY AND DESIRE Character Name:  Zach Tennant   How would you describe your family or your childhood? I lost my father when I was very young and have no memory of him;  I was raised by the woman he was with at the time;  My childhood?  It was a lonely existence, always searching for what my family should have been; raised at Resolute, the station in Australia. What was your greatest talent? My greatest talent is escaping from trouble, the British out on the high seas, and in London. Significant other? I had no significant other, until her; she stepped out of the past, out of a dream, and I knew she was mine. Biggest challenge in relationships? Before her, I never stayed for long; any encounter was simply that, an encounter.  I never wanted anything more, because of her, because of the past that was taken from us. Where do you live? Resolute Station, Australia, is the place I call home, when I’m not aboard the Revenge, my ship, or in some foreign port trading cargo. Do you have any enemies? Others would say that, as the Raven, I have many.  I would say that I have…

Rowenna Miller | Conversations in Character with Alaine and Delphine
Author Guest / March 30, 2023

Book Title: THE FAIRY BARGAINS OF PROSPECT HILL Character Names: Alaine and Delphine, sisters How would you describe your family or your childhood? Alaine: I had a wonderful childhood—for the most part, I was allowed to run wild around the orchard and the woods. Sometimes Mother squawked about that, when my stockings got holes or my hems got too muddy, but we were, overall, a very happy family. Delphine: I always wanted to be just like my mother—she was so refined and elegant. I think my favorite memories from childhood are her teaching me to paint and giving me piano lessons. What was your greatest talent? Alaine: I don’t know as I have a talent per se—but I know my land and I know my work. I’m a good farmer not just in the sense that we turn a profit but that I really understand the process. Delphine: I don’t think I’ve ever really told anyone this, but I am a very good painter. That is, everyone knows I paint and have seen my work and say it’s nice, but I don’t usually claim it’s a talent—but I suppose it is! Significant other? Alaine: I’m married to Jack, a brilliant…

Evie Green | Author-Reader Match: THE NEW ONE
Author Guest / March 30, 2023

Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader Match” where we introduce you to authors you may fall in love with. It’s our great pleasure to present Evie Green!   Writes: Stories in which weird things happen to ordinary people. For example, THE NEW ONE is about a family whose teenage daughter is badly injured in a hit-and-run accident, and who are offered a lifeline in the form of a medical trial in Switzerland. The only issue is the fact that this trial will mean they need to welcome a cloned version of their daughter into their home. Sophie, the new one, is engineered to be better in every way. So what happens if the original daughter wakes up?   About: A British writer using a pseudonym for my speculative sci-fi, I live on the Atlantic coast in the southwest of England. My interests include walking in the rain (not through choice: it just rains a lot where I live), going to the movies, and watching cooking shows on TV and somehow imagining I know what these elaborate dishes taste like. My children are teenagers now so I do less in…

Hardened, intelligent, marshmallow-center   6–What’s something you learned while writing this book?  Oh, gosh. I learned so much about the period and politics (the more things change, the more they stay the same!) It’s a way for me to get unstuck….

Attending Ball Season from the Comfort of Your Own Home, a Guide (and a Recipe) by Diana Biller
Author Guest / March 29, 2023

My most recent book, HOTEL OF SECRETS, is set in the winter of 1878, at the height of Vienna’s ball season. This sumptuous tradition of formal winter balls still continues today in Vienna, and, providing they adhere to the right etiquette, it is even possible for foreigners to attend! Unfortunately, many of us cannot fly to Vienna to dance the night away, and therefore I have asked the characters of my book for advice on creating the perfect ball experience in your own home.   Maria Wallner, hotelkeeper: There are five elements of a ball: the food, the music, the clothes, the company, and the surprise. It’s best if the surprise is something like a dozen psychics ready to tell the crowd’s fortunes, rather than, say, an assassination attempt or a fire.   Eli Whittaker, American Secret Service Agent: Those weren’t surprises. They were crimes.   Maria: They came as a great surprise to me, I assure you. Oh, also sometimes there’s a flood. Or a wild boar attack—   Eli: That didn’t happen at a ball, we were in the middle of the Vienna Woods—   Maria, with great dignity: I wasn’t talking about the one that happened to…

Jennie Marts | A Divorced Hairdresser Meets a Swoony Deputy Sheriff
Author Guest / March 28, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release? EVERY BIT A COWBOY, Creedence Horse Rescue Book 5   2–What is it about? A divorced hairdresser whose ex-husband stole her confidence and a swoony deputy sheriff who helps her find it again. It’s also about community, and eight baby pygmy goats, and a dog who rescues a horse, and a fashionista pig, and there may be a male stripper in there somewhere too.   3–What do you love about the setting of your book?  The town of Creedence is a small-town set in the mountains of Colorado. I live in Colorado and think the small mountain towns are so beautiful. I also love the sense of community in small towns and the way everyone knows everyone else and takes care of each other.   4–How did your heroine surprise you?  Carley Chapman is a really lovely person who uses her skills as a hairstylist to make others feel beautiful about themselves. Her ex-husband did a number on her and took her confidence in herself away. She really surprised me in this story in some of the ways she stands up for herself and finds that confidence in herself again.   5–Why…

Jennifer Snow | A Lighthouse Keeper Finds Loves with His Best Friend
Author Guest / March 28, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release? SECOND CHANCE ALASKA 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? A lighthouse keeper who lost his family at sea finds a second chance at love and happiness with the local bookstore and museum owner, who happens to be his best friend. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? This is the third full book in the Wild Coast, Alaska series and this series is a spin-off series to my Wild River, Alaska series. But originally, I decided to set these stories in Alaska because of its rugged beauty and mysterious charm. It was the perfect place to set a fictional town famed for its mythology. 4–Would you hang out with your heroine in real life? She owns a bookstore…so YAY! 5–What are three words that describe your hero? Dependable, kind-hearted and protector. 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? The research on the history of lighthouse keeping was truly fascinating! I learned so much more than I could ever include in the book, but I’ve definitely added snippets of what I learned. For example, the real reason some lighthouse keepers went ‘mad’. It’s not what…

Stephanie Marie Thornton | Two Literary Legends Discovering Each Other
Author Guest / March 28, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release? HER LOST WORDS 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? From A Vindication of the Rights of Woman to Frankenstein, Her Lost Words is a tale of two literary legends—a mother and daughter—discovering each other and finding themselves along the way. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? Both Mary Wollstonecraft and Mary Shelley lived in England and traveled extensively throughout Europe, so I was happy to trace the map of their wanderlust. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonists in real life? Absolutely! 5–What are three words that describe your protagonists? Brilliant. Feminist. Authors. 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? Mary Shelley kept her husband’s embalmed heart in her desk drawer. (You can’t make this stuff up!) 7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done? Definitely wait until I’m totally done. 8–What’s your favorite foodie indulgence? Champagne and strawberry cake. 9–Describe your writing space/office! My sunroom doubles as my writing space and has a great view of Alaskan mountains and Cook Inlet. 10–Who is an author you admire? Lexi Blake | Two Rival Lawyers in a Quirky Small-town
Author Guest / March 28, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release? BAYOU BELOVED 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Two rival lawyers in a quirky small-town battle it out in court, but behind the scenes, each is falling for the enemy. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? I think small town Louisiana is the perfect place for this book. I’ve written several books set in fictional Papillon, Louisiana, and Quaid, the hero, has been a part of all of them. For the heroine, this is a coming home book. A small town feels warm but for the heroine, this relationship with her family and the town is complex. 4–Would you hang out with your heroine in real life? Absolutely. Jayna is very serious but she’s also fun. I think we would have a lot to talk about. 5–What are three words that describe your hero? Loyal, loving, funny 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? I learned a lot about the law. Specifically, property laws in Louisiana. The case they’re deeply involved in concerns property laws. It sounds dry and boring, but this is a quirky small town and the way they solve it…
