Michael Webb | Indiana Jones meets Percy Jackson
Author Guest / March 2, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release? FORTRESS OF THE LOST AMULET 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Indiana Jones meets Percy Jackson. It’s a YA treasure-hunting fantasy adventure filled with magic, lost artifacts, maps, clues, and found family. It’s easy to read, fun, and evokes feelings of the Goonies or National Treasure while in a setting like Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? My other book series (Shadow Knights Trilogy) takes place in the fantasy world of Terrenor. I wanted the new series to share the same world, so I can incorporate tieins between the stories. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Absolutely! He’ll do anything for his friends and family but also likes to have fun. His idea of a good time is exploring and adventuring while looking for lost treasure. Sounds like a great day to me! 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? Loyal, Adventurous, Kind 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? People get excited about treasure hunting. Haha…but seriously, everyone I’ve told about the book has gotten incredibly excited and can’t wait…

Shannon McKenna | Conversations in Character with Svetlana Ardova and Sam Petrie
Author Guest / March 2, 2023

Book: IN FOR THE KILL, by Shannon McKenna Subject: Svetlana Ardova and Sam Petrie   Interviewer, startled: Oh, my gosh! Um…so you’ve both arrived together? I hope I didn’t miscommunicate when I gave you the times of the interviews. I scheduled Detective Petrie at 10 AM. (She turns to Sveti.) I meant for you to come in at eleven, because I thought maybe we could grab lunch together afterward. My treat, of course, since you were the one who put me in touch with these fascinating interview subjects for my journalism project. I will be indebted to you forever, you know. (Sam and Sveti stare at each other in naked alarm, speechless.) Sveti: I am very sorry. I am sure that it was my mistake. It is the kind of thing that happens to me often, with the English not being perfect, you see. I still have these lapses now and then. I will just go, then, and get a coffee, and come back in an hour. Sorry, Delilah. Sam: No, no. Stay. Talk to the two of us together. It’s no problem.   Interviewer: A dual interview? That could be interesting. I mean, you guys are friends, right? Or…

Shannon McKenna | Conversations in Character with Miles Davenport
Author Guest / March 2, 2023

Book: FATAL STRIKE, by Shannon McKenna Subject: Miles Davenport   Interviewer: Thanks for coming in on such short notice, Mr. Davenport. I know Sveti roped you into doing this for my journalism thesis project as a favor, and I am really grateful to both of you. Particularly after I read the articles about the Greaves Foundation event! Wild stuff. I’m so glad you got through it all right. And I would love to learn more about your incredible adventures! Miles, looking dubious: Uh, yeah, I guess. I don’t know how they covered it in the newspapers, so I can’t speak to what they said about what happened.   Interviewer: Well, they told the truth, right? Did they not? And if not, what did they miss? Or fudge? Miles: No clue. I was in a coma when they were writing about it. I’ve been trying not to think about it ever since. So, I’d rather refrain from questions about that. If you don’t mind.   Interviewer, crestfallen: Okay, I guess. Well, then. (consults notes) Then let’s just get back to basics. Say, how would you describe your family? Your childhood? Miles, shifting uncomfortably on his chair: My parents were great. They…

Kimberly Young | Never Too Late to Embrace the Truth and Repair Relationships
Author Guest / March 1, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release? IN THE EVENT OF DEATH   2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? When The Great Recession of 2008 crushes their splashy event business in Silicon Valley, Liz Becker and Gabbi Rossi realize that parties are on hold—but funerals must go on. Planning a memorial with flowers, music, and food isn’t that different from a wedding, right? But Liz has had a crippling fear of death since losing her younger sister decades earlier.  Will she be able to face her fears to save her business and keep her family afloat?   3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? Since this is my first novel, I followed the old advice of “write what you know.”  So, I set my book in the suburbs of Silicon Valley, where I grew up and raised my children. It was fun to include some of my favorite haunts, as well as Stanford University, where I met my husband.   4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Liz is a chronic worrier, so I’d like to hang with her and help her chill out. Gabbi is the opposite, a…

Cynthia Wright | Conversations in Character with Anthony St. Briac
Author Guest / March 1, 2023

Book Title: Her Secret Rogue (Rakes & Rebels: The St. Briac Family, Book 3) Character Name: Anthony St. Briac – an interview during Chapter One of Her Secret Rogue, when Anthony was in the Galapagos Islands   How would you describe your family or your childhood? The best way to describe my childhood? Complicated. I was born in 1809 and grew up in London as the son of Sir Harry Brandreth, Baronet. My mother, Mouette Raveneau, is the daughter of legendary Historical Romance couple André and Devon Raveneau. During her unhappy marriage to Sir Harry, it seems she had a brief tryst with the wicked French pirate, Justin St. Briac, and much later I discovered I was really HIS son. Since Sir Harry turned out to be a disreputable criminal, this was good news. My parents now enjoy a tempestuous marriage, and our primary family home is in Cornwall. I’ve been drawn in a few times to settle their quarrels, which stiffened my own resolve to avoid serious romantic entanglements.   What is your greatest talent? I am a “naturalist” like my university friend, Charles Darwin. Fossils, geology, and zoology are endlessly fascinating to me, and I also possess enough…

Mary Connealy | A Strong Hero and Heroine Stand Up to a Ruthless Gang
Author Guest / March 1, 2023

1–What’s the title of your latest release? FORGED IN LOVE 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new novel? Mariah survives a stagecoach robbery by a gang who leaves no witnesses. Then she starts having “accidents.” Clint wants to get close to Mariah and finds himself standing between her and the ruthless gang who wants her dead. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? The book is set in Wyoming against the backdrop of the women’s suffrage movement. Wyoming was the first state in the Union to grant women the right to vote, and this attracted tough, independent women and the men who respected them. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Oh, yes. Mariah is both tough and vulnerable. She’s grieving her father and brother, who died in the holdup that almost killed her. She’s strong enough to take over her father’s blacksmith shop but woman enough to be interested when Clint, who runs the town’s diner, becomes her champion. 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? Strong, sweet, and loyal. 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? The research was fascinating. Once I started reading about the fight for…
