Author Guest / December 13, 2022

Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader Match” where we introduce you to authors you may fall in love with. It’s our great pleasure to present Samara Parish!   Writes: Fast-paced, high-stakes historical romances set in England and featuring STEM heroes and heroines who are rebels out to set society on its head. Her books are full of protagonists flawed in oh-so-relatable ways and a cast of secondary characters you will fall in love with.   About: I’m an Aussie author who loves to get away for the weekend, particularly when that means venturing into the fantasy worlds of regency ton. I love a good enemies-to-lover trope but want none of that drama in my real life, please! When I’m not reading or writing, I’m working in my obscenely large garden. I have a fruit orchard, veggie patch, dogs, cats, and far too many chickens but my day job is in a university physics department, so all excess eggs go to broke PhD students I also like to take a lot of courses. My latest has been fashion and I am consequently obsessed. If you want to talk about books…

Leighann Dobbs | 20 Questions: WHO SLAYED THE SANTAS?
Author Guest / December 12, 2022

1–What is the title of your latest release? WHO SLAYED THE SANTAS? 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Quirky, funny, holiday cozy mystery with a surprise twist at the end. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? It’s in a series of holiday themed cozies which all take place at the mansion of Crescent Cove’s richest citizen, Juniper Holiday. So deciding where it would take place was easy. And, since it’s a Christmas book, of course it takes place right before Christmas. 4–Would you hang out with your sleuth in real life? Honestly, I’m not sure. She has a lot more energy than I do and she’s always finding dead bodies which can get a bit tedious. I do like her taste in music though – 80’s rock. 5–What are three words that describe your sleuth? Stubborn, fun, smart. 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? Toy train engines are very heavy and can be dangerous. You’ll see why if you read the book. 7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done? I guess I do a little of both.  I edit each chapter as I am…

Elizabeth Heiter | Double the Story, Double the Determined Heroines!
Author Guest / December 12, 2022

If you read my blog post last month, you already know about my Dec. 27 release, K-9: Tracking the Target (the duo book containing both K-9 Cold Case and K-9 Hideout), and the two heroes who have a desire to protect and a soft spot for their K-9 companions. Now, I’d like to introduce the heroines, Keara Hernandez and Sabrina Jones. At first glance, Keara (the police chief in the remote Alaskan town of Desparre) and Sabrina (a graphic artist on the run from a stalker) have little in common. Keara went from big-city detective to the only woman (and the leader) on a police force far from home. Determined to move on from the murder of her husband, she throws herself into her new job and wins the respect of a police force who initially doubted the outside woman. Sabrina is less practical and career-focused and more determined just to survive each day. She’ll do whatever it takes – even sacrifice herself – to prevent her stalker from hurting anyone else after he murdered her boyfriend. Cutting off all contact with family and friends for two years is as disheartening as the trek to stay one step ahead of…

Andrew Shaffer | Exclusive Excerpt: FEEL THE BERN
Author Guest , Excerpt / December 12, 2022

Bernie Sanders and I stood at the end of the dock. Although the air was cool, the sky was cloudless and the sun was out. A perfect autumn day in Vermont. Most of the boats usually docked here were out on the water. A steady stream of out-of-state cars were rolling through town now. Some were driving slower than the speed limit so they could take in the leaves, while others were driving slower looking for parking for the fall festival, Champ Days. Most, presumably, hadn’t heard about the dead man who’d floated to the surface less than sixteen hours ago. “Drowning pancakes in syrup is one thing,” Bernie said. “But a person drowning in syrup? How does that happen?” I was just a congressional intern. Was the senator—my boss—really asking me to chime in on this? Sure, we were in my hometown, but Bernie and I had both read the same autopsy report on Mr. Fletcher, the victim. The medical examiner had laid out the facts, but the facts didn’t give us all the answers. Mr. Fletcher didn’t have anything else in his digestive tract besides maple syrup. No pancakes. No waffles. Not even a spoonful of granola. “You…

Jennifer Vido | Jen’s Jewels Interview: GIFTS, GLAMPING & GLOCKS by Tonya Kappes
Author Guest , Jen's Jewels / December 9, 2022

Jennifer Vido: For readers new to the Campers & Criminals Cozy Mysteries, please share with us the premise behind this quirky and highly addictive series. Tonya Kappes: Thank you so much for having me! I’m excited to share all about Mae West and the Laundry Club Ladies with your readers. Mae West is a high society socialite from New York who loses everything after her husband is convicted of a Ponzi scheme. The only thing to her name is a run-down camper van and a run-down campground set in the middle of the Daniel Boone National Forest in Kentucky. A far cry from her glitz and glamour social life. In her mind, she’s going to drive that awful camper van to Kentucky and sell the campground, but she realizes once she gets there, that’s not going to be the case. The campground is run down and in much need of renovations. Not to mention the nasty mucky lake where she was standing. Not too long after she shows up, the FBI rolls into the campground, accusing her of hiding her husband now that he’s broken out of jail. She informs them that they better find him before she does because…

The Character Most Likely – Samantha Chase
Author Guest / December 9, 2022

With Samantha Chase’s new book TEMPT ME out, we here at Fresh Fiction thought it would be a fun way for readers to get to know her characters better by playing a little game we call “The Character Most Likely“. If you’re new to her Donovans series – it’s a contemporary romance series set in a small town.   Most likely to take a chance? That would definitely be the baby of the family, Arianna. Her story was DARE ME and if you read it, you know that girl is all about taking a chance and accepting all kinds of dares Most likely to fall in love unexpectedly? I’m going to have to go with Patrick on this one, only because he’s managed to stay under the radar with his mother’s matchmaking and he’s so focused on his career that he’s not even looking or thinking about falling in love.   Most likely to be attracted by their opposite? Ooo…it’s kind of a tie. Liam and Ryleigh are probably the most rigid in their personalities and lifestyles and I think they NEED someone who is their opposite and will force them out of their comfort zones to make them happy.  …

Kristen Ashley | 20 Questions: SMOKE AND STEEL
Author Guest / December 8, 2022

1–What is the title of your latest release? SMOKE AND STEEL 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? This is always the hardest question to answer mostly because I talk too much so I’d probably corner whomever I was pitching to, and we’d go up and down five times before I got it all out! 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? The story and characters decide for me. The characters pretty much decide everything. Always. I’m at their mercy. 4–Would you hang out with your heroine in real life? Absolutely. She’s the bomb-diggity! 5–What are three words that describe your hero? Broken. Gorgeous. Loyal. 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? That, even though I’ve been married, I’ve never been the white dress kind of girl…and that’s okay. 7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done? Edit as I draft. Though, I always do several read-throughs as I’m writing and when I’m finished to make sure (hopefully) that I closed all loops. 8–What’s your favorite foodie indulgence? Foodie, as in well-crafted and curated food? Something with an amazing sauce, like bearnaise or hollandaise. The secret is always…

Denise Crittendon | Author-Reader Match: WHERE IT RAINS IN COLOR
Author Guest / December 8, 2022

Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader Match” where we introduce you to authors you may fall in love with. It’s our great pleasure to present Denise Crittendon, author of WHERE IT RAINS IN COLOR!   Writes: I write Afrofuturistic sci-fi/fantasy that expands the African Diaspora beyond Earth, through space and into exciting new galaxies. As the novel progresses, another reality is slowly unveiled and my MC, a beautiful, shimmering planetary icon, uncovers the truth.  Although the Earth was destroyed thousands of years ago, an important and powerful link exists between Swazembi and a mystical West African tribe. Once this discovery is made, the life of my protagonist and the course of the entire coalition are forever changed.   What I’m looking for in my ideal reader match: A dreamer intrigued by a Wakanda-style civilization An idealist who wants to…

Eunice Amnell | 20 Questions: THE PACK OUTCAST
Author Guest / December 8, 2022

1–What is the title of your latest release? THE PACK OUTCAST 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? The Pack Outcast is a reverse harem paranormal romance book that takes you on a young girl’s journey from pack outcast to finding people whom she can always trust to be on her side. It’s the third book in my interconnected standalone series called The Fae Omegas Series. It’s a great read if you like strong heroines that can be a tad bit overpowered, mate bond relationships, and a rich variety of reverse harem males from older instructor alpha males who will always take the heroine’s side to boy-next-door best friend mates. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? The book starts in Amelia’s pack but the main location is a supernatural academy—Camdine Academy—for educating young adults belonging to the four main supernatural factions: Werewolves, Vampires, Fae, and Mages. I always knew that for my character to escape the corruption that usually brews in packs, she would need a place to escape to. She was too young to go train in a top organization like the Supernatural Council, so the best place for her to prove…

Clara Pines | 20 Questions: SOLDIER’S SECRET BABY
Author Guest / December 7, 2022

1–What is the title of your latest release? SOLDIER’S SECRET BABY 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? A man and woman fall in love, but she disappears right before he leaves for his military service. He comes back to his hometown irrevocably changed. And she comes back with a baby. A blizzard at the local inn traps them together where they will have to work things out or lose each other forever. This is a story full of feels, set at a cozy small-town inn where everyone is preparing for Christmas. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? I love writing about the fictional small town of Trinity Falls, Pennsylvania. And the historic inn on the lake seemed like the perfect setting for a Christmas story about revisiting the past in order to imagine the future. 4–Would you hang out with your heroine in real life? I would love to hang out with Grace. She would probably choose to meet at the toddler park so that her adorable baby girl, Izzy, could play while we sipped our hot apple cider. 5–What are three words that describe your hero? Chris is tough, independent, and…
