Marlene Perez | Exclusive Excerpt: A SUCKER FOR YOU
Author Guest / October 27, 2022

A SUCKER FOR YOU by Marlene Perez, Copyright © 2022, Excerpt with Permission from Entangled   “Finally, I tiptoed back into the bedroom. Vaughn was still sprawled out on the bed, sound asleep. I couldn’t stop staring at the pulse at his neck. My fangs came down, and a voice in my head urged me to bite, to drink. Instead, I grabbed my phone. I wouldn’t put Vaughn in danger just to appease my vamp hunger. “Rose, I need you,“ I whispered. “Something’s wrong. Come here as soon as you can.” I managed to walk into the living room and waited until I heard a soft knock. “What’s wrong?” Rose asked. She had her portable apothecary with her. I told her about the green bile, the bloodlust, everything. She frowned. “I’ll need a lock of your hair or a bit of your blood,” she said, then looked at my eyes. Something in them made her add hastily, “Hair, I think.” She took out a tiny pair of scissors and snipped at my hair. “You may as well cut it all,” I joked. “It’s been growing faster than ever lately.” Her lips didn’t even turn up as she mixed together a…

Catherine Bruns | 20 Questions: A DOOMFUL OF SUGAR
Author Guest / October 27, 2022

1–What is the title of your latest release? A DOOMFUL OF SUGAR 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? After the shocking murder of her father, Leila Khoury returns to her hometown, Sugar Ridge, Vermont, to fulfill his wish and take over the family business. Can she run the maple syrup farm, mend her strained relationship with her mother, and find a killer? 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? I live in Upstate New York, about a half hour from the Vermont border. I’ve been dying to set a mystery in the Green Mountains for a long time (yes, pun intended.) 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? Absolutely. Leila never pulls any punches. 5–What are three words that describe your protagonist? Determined, headstrong, and loyal. 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? When the idea for this series first came into my head, I took a private tour of a maple farm in Vermont, and the owners were wonderful about answering all my questions. It was so interesting to learn how maple syrup is made. 7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?…

Starla DeKruyf | 20 Questions: TRICKED IN OCTOBER
Author Guest / October 27, 2022

1–What is the title of your latest release? TRICKED IN OCTOBER 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? In this best-friends-to-lovers romance, mistaken identity leads to a Halloween hook-up that might not be so mistaken after all. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? Since this is book two in the Pineridge series, the setting stayed the same as book one; the fictional town of Pineridge, Colorado. I thought having a romance series set in a small, mountainous town would be cozy and magical. 4–Would you hang out with your heroine in real life? Absolutely! Hands-down 100% YES! Kelsey has a tough exterior but is still lots of fun. She’s a hardworking, loyal, taking care of business—and in her own way—feminist. 5–What are three words that describe your hero? Reliable, empathetic, rugged 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? This book was tough for me to write. One of my hardest to date. I went deep on some issues, and I also wrote it during a cross-country move while grieving the unexpected loss of our dog. So while my characters were suffering loss, I was too in my own way. I learned how…

Robin Bielman | Exclusive Excerpt: THE MATCHMAKER AND THE COWBOY
Author Guest , Excerpt / October 26, 2022

THE MATCHMAKER AND THE COWBOY Copyright © 2022 Robin Bielman, Excerpt with Permission from Entangled   “In the quiet of the bunkhouse, he heard her sigh. He didn’t give false compliments and always meant everything he said. God, he wished she were close enough to touch. To run his fingers through her hair. To press his lips to hers and learn how she liked to be kissed. Stop going there, Hunter. “What’s your least favorite food?” she asked, roping them back into superficial territory. “Don’t have one. I pretty much like everything. If it’s put in front of me, I’ll eat it. Yours?” “Peppers. I don’t even like them on my plate.” “Peppers everywhere are mourning the pleasure of your mouth.” Jesus, did he just say that? Apparently, he still bumbled his words around her. “Do you want to go back to Africa some day?” he rushed to ask, the question the first thing to pop into his head. “Or someplace else?” “If given the opportunity, I’d love to. I know Maverick loves to travel; do you?” she asked. “It’s not in my blood like it is in his, but seeing other parts of the world would be great. Especially with…

Nicola Cornick | 20 Questions: THE WINTER GARDEN
Author Guest / October 26, 2022

1–What is the title of your latest release? THE WINTER GARDEN 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? A woman looking for a fresh start is haunted by the parallel life of a Tudor woman with secrets to reveal. 3–How did you decide to write about the Gunpowder Plot? As a historian, I’m always drawn to the women from the footnotes of the historical record. The Gunpowder Plot of 1605 is such a male-dominated story on the surface. All the conspirators were men, and you seldom hear about the women whose lives were also affected by it. I wanted to find out about them and write about the turbulent Tudor years preceding the plot from their point of view. 4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life? I’d be very happy to hang out with both my contemporary and my historical protagonist. Lucy, the present-day heroine, is trying to recover from a serious illness and build a new life. She’s a musician and I’d love to chat to her about everything from Mozart to history to the importance of family ties. Anne Catesby, my historical heroine, is someone with whom I identified closely when I was writing…

Julia Henry | 20 Questions: THE PLOT THICKETS
Author Guest / October 25, 2022

1–What is the title of your latest release? THE PLOT THICKETS 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Lilly Jayne visits the town cemetery and decides things don’t look quite right. Asking some questions unearths scandals, graft, and murder. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? My series is about gardening, and I was thinking about a new location and decided that having Lilly and the Garden Squad decide to clean up some old graves and plant flowers would be an interesting way to explore what might happen in a historic cemetery. What would happen if someone decided to start making more space to make some money? What else could happen there? 4–Would you hang out with your sleuth in real life? Absolutely! She’s got an interesting backstory, great friends, and a wonderful house for entertaining. 5–What are three words that describe your sleuth? Kind, loyal, fierce 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? I did some research on small towns and committees that help run the cemeteries. Two friends shared recent experiences with town cemetery plots as well – having to use their “space” for an aunt, so they’d need to make…

Jennifer Snow | 20 Questions: ALASKA FOR CHRISTMAS
Author Guest / October 25, 2022

1–What is the title of your latest release? ALASKA FOR CHRISTMAS 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Overboard meets Elf in this humorous, heartwarming holiday rom-com! 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? Alaska is the setting for this new Wild Coast series, and it was the perfect place to set a cozy, Christmas themed romance-lots of snowy mountains and warm fireplaces. 4–Would you hang out with your heroine in real life? I’m not sure lol…She’s a daredevil, adventure seeker so I’m not sure she’d want to hang out with ME! I’m a little more like the hero in this story lol. 5–What are three words that describe your hero? Hot, protective, and determined 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? Researching aspects of the U.S. Coast Guard has been a big part of writing this series. With this book, learning about the elite team of rescue swimmers and the intense training they endure was really fascinating to me. Definitely increases the hotness rating for the hero of this story. 7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done? My process is a bit of a nightmare! I…

Christi Barth | Exclusive Excerpt: IMPERFECT ANGEL
Author Guest / October 25, 2022

IMPERFECT ANGEL Copyright © 2022 Christi Barth Excerpt with Permission from Entangled   “A sob caught in the back of her throat. Tears slowly rolled down her face. Hellfire. Weren’t women supposed to like honesty? His intent was to make her feel better. How’d it backfire so massively? “What’d I say?” “Everything.” She hitched in a ragged breath. Then another. “You got everything across. Which is why I’m crying. Why I’ve been crying. I’m terrified.” “I’m glued to your side now. Nothing gets past me. You don’t need to be scared of dying.” It was a slight exaggeration. Reassurance, though, seemed the obvious, necessary remedy right now. Was he going to have to hug her after all, to get her to calm down? “Not of dying. Well, of course that’s terrifying, but I’m crying because it’s too much to take in. How can the fate of the world rest on my shoulders?” Rhys was genuinely confused. He’d explained it. “Because your uncle chose you as his successor.” “Not the logistics of it. Which, yes, weird enough that a few drops of blood and DNA kicked this whole thing into gear.” Maisy thudded her fist against her chest. “I’m nothing special….

Claudia Lux | 20 Questions: SIGN HERE
Author Guest / October 25, 2022

1–What is the title of your latest release? SIGN HERE 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? The way I tell it goes like this: Me: Do you want to hear the elevator pitch? Whomever I’ve cornered: Sure. Me: It’s about a guy named Peyote Trip– Them: I’m sorry, what? Me: –who lives and works in Hell, but Hell is actually more of an office, where consistent discomfort and unpleasantness rules over torture. He works in the Deals Department, so if someone wants to sell their soul, he’s the guy who shows up and does the paperwork, and he’s tracking this one family, from whom he’s gotten four generations of souls. If he gets one more, he’ll get what’s known as a “complete set” and he’ll be promoted, in addition to other motivations you find out about later. (Wink here.)
