June 28, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release?

HAVE YOU SEEN HER

2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

A woman who is running away from her life in New York joins the search and rescue squad in Yosemite but soon gets embroiled in the disappearance of a young couple.

3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

My sister and brother-in-law worked search and rescue in Yosemite for five years, so I had some inside scoop.

4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?

Definitely.

5–What are three words that describe your protagonist?

Naive, brave, trusting.

6–What’s something you learned while writing this book?

A lot of technical rock-climbing terms.

7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

I edit as I write, but a chapter at a time – so each chapter I read over once or twice and then move to the next.

8–What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

Can Cheese Pringles be considered a “foodie” indulgence?

9–Describe your writing space/office!

It’s a room in the basement of my house. There’s a lot of books in it.

10–Who is an author you admire?

Ruth Ware.

11–Is there a book that changed your life?

Pride and Prejudice.

12–Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.

I think I got an email! LOL. Since this is book #14 I already had a relationship with my publisher.

13–What’s your favorite genre to read?

I read very eclectically so I can’t pick just one.

14–What’s your favorite movie?

Can’t pick one of those either, but some favorites include The Hunt for Red October, High Fidelity and About a Boy.

15–What is your favorite season?

Summer, but on the cusp of fall or spring so it’s not too hot. I believe it’s called Santa Monica.

16–How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

I usually have a dinner with friends.

17–What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

Only Murders in the Building and Shrinking.

18–What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

Pasta. I will never give it up.

19–What do you do when you have free time?

Read, watch TV, play tennis.

20–What can readers expect from you next?

EVERY TIME I GO ON VACATION, SOMEONE DIES is coming out Summer 2024.

HAVE YOU SEEN HER by Catherine McKenzie

Have You Seen HerEquipped with a burner phone and a new job, Cassie Peters has left her hectic and secretive life in New York City for the refuge of her hometown of Mammoth Lakes, California. There, she begins working again with Yosemite Search and Rescue, where a case she worked a decade ago continues to haunt her.

She quickly falls into old patterns, joining a group of fellow seasonal workers and young adventurers who have made Yosemite their home during the summer. There, she meets Petal, a young woman living in a trailer with her much older wife, keeping a detailed diary of the goings on of the park, and Jada, a recent college graduate on a cross-country road trip with her boyfriend, documenting their journey on Instagram.
