Delores Fossen | 20 Questions: MORNINGS AT RIVER’S END RANCH

November 28, 2022

1–What is the title of your latest release?

MORNINGS AT RIVER’S END RANCH

2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

Back when Wyatt Buchanan and Nola Parkman were high school sweethearts, an unplanned pregnancy pulled them apart. Seventeen years later, the haunting decision to place the baby for adoption finds them unlucky in love, yet still drawn to each other like moths to a flame.

3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

Texas will always be home for me so it’s where I set my stories. I especially love Texas small towns.

4–Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?

I would! She’s a blown glass artist, and I’ve always been fascinated by that. Plus, she’s got a wonderful sense of humor.

5–What are three words that describe your hero?

Hot. honorable, tough

6–What’s something you learned while writing this book?

I learned a lot about blowing glass and actually did a zoom tutorial with a glass artist.

7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

I wait until I’m done, and then I go back through the book several times.

8–What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

A cupcake.

9–Describe your writing space/office!

I don’t have an actual office. I have a room with a recliner, and I use that sometimes. If the weather is good, I will write on our screened in back porch.

10–Who is an author you admire?

B.J. Daniels

11–Is there a book that changed your life?

Many of them have! For writing though, I think Sandra Brown’s Best Kept Secrets made me want to write books.

12–Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)

I’d submitted the first ten pages and synopsis of a Harlequin Intrigue to the senior editor. The submission went on the slush pile but not for long. Less than a week later, I got the call. It was one of the best days ever since writing for Harlequin was my dream.

13–What’s your favorite genre to read?

I read a lot of different genres, but romance is my favorite. I also read YA, thrillers, mysteries, and horror. Right now, I’m on a Scottish police procedural’s kick. I especially love those in audiobooks so I can listen to the accents.

14–What’s your favorite movie?

So many, and it changes all the time. I still rewatch Love, Actually every year at Christmas, and I’ve watched the Hunger Games movies at least a dozen times.

15–What is your favorite season?

Fall. I love the cooler temps.

16–How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

I “celebrate” by not celebrating, lol. I’m not sure why, but I’ve never enjoyed celebrating my birthday.

17–What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

Again, so many. I’m loving House of the Dragon, the Game of Thrones spin-off, and I’m binge reading all fifteen books of JD Kirk, a Scottish author who writes an awesome detective series.

18–What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

Italian. Love, love, love any kind of pasta.

19–What do you do when you have free time?

I read or spend time with my twin grandbabies.

20–What can readers expect from you next?

I have two Harlequin Intrigues coming out in December 2022 and January 2023. Those are Lawman to the Core and Spurred to Justice. Then, in March 2023, I have a new HQN, A Texas Kind of Cowboy.

MORNINGS AT RIVER’S END RANCH by Delores Fossen

Mornings at River's End Ranch

There’s no place like Last Ride for big hearts—and even bigger surprises.

Back when Wyatt Buchanan and Nola Parkman were high school sweethearts, an unplanned pregnancy pulled them apart. Seventeen years later, the haunting decision to place the baby for adoption finds them unlucky in love, yet still drawn to each other like moths to a flame. But with so much heartbreak and history between them, a relationship’s not in the cards. Especially when Nola wants a family and Wyatt makes it clear that his sole focus is River’s End Ranch.

But late-night conversations stir up long-forgotten memories and they find comfort in each other’s arms. For Nola, being with Wyatt gives her hope that they might be able to share the future they once believed would be theirs. Then their now-teenage daughter arrives in Last Ride, seeking answers about her past. Although Wyatt’s a confirmed bachelor, seeing Nola with their daughter makes him realize that giving up on his newfound family terrifies him more than being alone. Can the connection he and Nola have just rediscovered offer him a second chance with the woman he’s never forgotten—and help mend his still-healing heart?

Bonus novella! Discovering an empty grave is not something Rosalie Parkman ever expected. Now she’ll need the help of Deputy Gabriel Buchanan—without giving in to their heated attraction—to locate the uncle she thought was buried long ago…
