Holly Danvers | 20 Questions: LONG OVERDUE AT THE LAKESIDE LIBRARY

February 21, 2022

1–What is the title of your latest release?

LONG OVERDUE AT THE LAKESIDE LIBRARY

2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

LONG OVERDUE returns us to Lofty Pines, Wisconsin where Rain decides to keep the generational log-cabin library up and running year-round. A library patron who has recently loaned a few cookbooks is murdered at the “Ice Fishing Jamboree” on Pine Lake and Julia’s husband Nick takes the hit. Rain is on the case to clear Nick’s name.

3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

LONG OVERDUE is the second book in the series, so I knew we’d return to Lofty Pines, Wisconsin. The setting decision was pure magic for me. I previously lived in a log-cabin for 6 years and it was so cozy and charming. I also wanted the Northwoods of WI feel. If you haven’t been to a lake in upper Wisconsin, I implore you to add it to your bucket list! The clear lakes and tall pines…well…it’s breathtaking!

4–Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?

Absolutely, although Rain is a bit of an in introvert like me, but once she trusts you, she opens like a flower.

5–What are three words that describe your hero?

Resilient, kind, curious.

6–What’s something you learned while writing this book?

I learned I need to be able to set a first draft aside longer before beginning the editing process. I tend to pick at a draft and things are missed that only a clearer mind can provide.

7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

I have a daily word count that I’m strict upon. The next day, I edit the previous day’s work and then continue to the next day’s word count. I do this until I hit 80k.

8–What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

GLUTEN-FREE PIZZA

9–Describe your writing space/office!

My office window looks out onto a large body of water, where I sometimes find myself distracted. Ha! I recently bought a stand-up desk so I’m trying to make the shift.

10–Who is an author you admire?

Karen White, I love her Tradd Street Mystery series!

11–Is there a book that changed your life?

Yes, the first book I wrote under a different pseudonym. It’s titled: ENTRUSTED

12–Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)

This is my 7th book in publication so honestly, I can’t remember? I do remember the “first call” from my agent. I had a premonition that she was going to call that day and she did. I told her so, and think it freaked us both out a bit. Ha! She was very gracious, it happened sooner than we thought after submission, and we were both elated.

13–What’s your favorite genre to read?

I really love psychological suspense. If I’m not writing cozy, that’s my next goal.

14–What’s your favorite movie?

Ooh, that’s a tough one. I really liked A FEW GOOD MEN. I think my previous experience in the military led me to that decision. The blurred lines and such…

15–What is your favorite season?

My favorite season is when the flowers are in full bloom, and the sun is shining on my face.

16–How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

With my husband. He graciously takes the day off to spend with me. Since it’s in the summer we usually go out on the water via wave runners or boat with a picnic lunch.

17–What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

THE LAST THING HE TOLD ME, by Laura Dave

18–What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

ITALIAN

19–What do you do when you have free time?

oil paint, plant flowers & veggies in the garden, read

20–What can readers expect from you next?

Fingers crossed another LAKESIDE LIBRARY MYSTERY and I’m currently working on a new Maine series set to release in 2023…stay tuned!

LONG OVERDUE AT THE LAKESIDE LIBRARY by Holly Danvers

A Lakeside Library Mystery #2

Long Overdue at the Lakeside Library

An icy cold murder and a library patron collide in Holly Danver’s second Lakeside Library Mystery.

A glowing wood stove, a cozy log cabin, and shelves full of books are all Rain Wilmot needs to ride out the Wisconsin winter, now that she’s made her family’s Lofty Pines library her year-round home. But the warm-hearted librarian’s blood runs cold when local man, Wallace Benson, is found dead during the annual Ice Fishing Jamboree.

After Benson’s body is found in his ice shanty, Rain recalls that she recently saw the victim in her library, borrowing a few cookbooks to prepare for the fishing tournament’s communal “chili dump.” She later finds these same books returned to the library’s drop box, with an enigmatic note from Benson to Rain.

As Rain seeks to understand the message, the prime suspect becomes Rain’s friend Nick, who was the last person to see Wallace alive and who returned to the Jamboree with a nasty cut on his hand. The knife found in his tackle box only makes Nick’s troubles worse. But Rain keeps fishing for other suspects. Was the killer Danny, who lost his arm to a logging accident involving Wallace? Or Danny’s bitter father, whose dreams of retirement were dashed by his son’s accident?

With the help of her friends Julia and Jace, Rain sets out to hook the real culprit and clear Nick’s name. But can her sleuthing skills protect her from a killer who’d like to take her out of circulation?
