Jamie L. Adams | Small towns with big secrets

September 26, 2025

Hi, I’m Jamie Adams, and if you’ve been following along, you know I love a good mystery. There’s something irresistible about an intricate puzzle, a trail of clues, and that heart-pounding moment when everything falls into place.

One of my favorite mystery elements is the idea of small towns with big secrets. On the surface, these places seem like picture-perfect—charming main streets, friendly neighbors, and a sense of community where everyone knows everyone. But beneath that idyllic façade, secrets lurk. And when those secrets start to unravel, the results can be explosive.

September is the perfect month for mysteries like these. The days are getting shorter, the air a little crisper, and a cozy blanket and cup of tea practically beg for a book filled with twists, turns, and a dash of small-town intrigue.

Mysteries to Fall into This September
September always feels like a fresh start. The days grow shorter, the air turns crisp, and I find myself reaching for a cozy blanket, a warm drink, and—you guessed it—a mystery novel. There’s something about autumn that makes the perfect backdrop for a good whodunit.

This month, I’m spotlighting mysteries that capture that seasonal charm: the bustle of back-to-school, small-town festivals, and the thrill of discovering secrets just as the leaves begin to turn.
Back-to-School Sleuthing

There’s no shortage of mysteries set around classrooms and libraries. Something about chalk dust and library stacks makes a perfect hiding spot for clues.

Cozy Nights, Cozy Crimes
Fall is the season for curling up indoors. Whether it’s a classic re-read or the newest cozy set in a pumpkin patch, September invites us to settle in with stories that both comfort and thrill.

Festivals, Fairs, and Fatal Findings
From pie contests gone wrong to small-town fairs hiding big secrets, autumn gatherings make perfect backdrops for amateur sleuths. They remind us that beneath the pumpkins and parades, danger might be lurking…

New Cozy Mysteries for September
A BREW FOR CHAOS (Enchanted Bay Mystery) by Esme Addison
A magical seaside setting, strong family ties, and plenty of small-town intrigue. Perfect for readers who like a hint of the whimsical with their cozy sleuthing.

PUMPKIN PATCH MURDER by Lucy May
What could be more September than a harvest festival? When pie contests and pumpkin displays lead to foul play, amateur sleuths (and readers) are in for a festive mystery with plenty of small-town flavor.

So, mystery readers, what’s on your TBR list? Are you leaning toward a magical seaside escape, a book-loving sleuth in Stoneham, or a small-town harvest gone wrong?

Happy sleuthing,
Jamie
