Kat Turner | 20 Questions: SONG OF VIRGO

September 15, 2022

1–What is the title of your latest release?

SONG OF VIRGO

2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

Taylor and Julian, wolf-shifters who wield magic, are busy fighting to rekindle the passion in their relationship when their infant daughter goes missing. A quest to save their baby girl thrusts them back into a world of dark magic that they thought they’d escaped, where frightening secrets about a catastrophic prophecy are revealed.

3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

The area of Peru where the beginning and end of the book takes place is an integral part of the series world and was a natural fit. The evil theme park turned out to be a fun way to make the setting come alive and to blend fantasy and reality.

4–Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?

Of course! Taylor is wicked smart, a total badass, and wittier than I could ever hope to be.

5–What are three words that describe your hero?

Protective, Compassionate, Loyal.

6–What’s something you learned while writing this book?

Keeping world-building details straight across multiple books requires a LOT of dedicated organization.

7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

Edit as I draft. Reading what I’ve already written helps me reconnect with the story, and it’s also something of a reward!

8–What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

I’m a sweets monster. Chocolate, cake, ice cream—I basically live for dessert!

9–Describe your writing space/office!

I recently designed a home office that I adore! It has your basic desk and bookcase, plus a neon sign and a six-foot fake tropical tree that reminds me of the jungle setting where many of the books in this series take place.

10–Who is an author you admire?

My City Owl Press siblings.

11–Is there a book that changed your life?

We Sold Our Souls by Grady Hendrix was a master class in description, humor, and the impeccable execution of a sharp, modern voice. I reread it for inspiration.

12–Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)

This was one of the best moments of my life! The email came in a couple of days before my wedding anniversary and Halloween. I danced in the living room to Ghostbusters and understood what people say when they mean “walking on air.” What a memory.

13–What’s your favorite genre to read?

Right now, I’m really into horror, especially if there is an element of humor or irreverence mixed in.

14–What’s your favorite movie?

The remake of Suspiria. Dark and scary witchery with a killer soundtrack!

15–What is your favorite season?

Typically, autumn, although this summer I connected with my inner sun worshiper and discovered that I’m a total beach bum at heart. Give me a book, an ocean, and a glass of bubbly, and I’m in heaven.

16–How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

Low key but with cake!

17–What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

The UnXplained, a documentary series about various paranormal, mysterious, and unexplained phenomena. It’s super entertaining and provides a ton of book ideas.

18–What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

Vietnamese.

19–What do you do when you have free time?

I read, work out, do yoga, garden, and spend time with my family.

20–What can readers expect from you next?

Lots to come! I have a prequel to the Coven Daughters series releasing in January, and the fourth book in the series drops in Spring 2023. I’m writing Coven Daughters book five of six at the moment, and it’s shaping up to be both the steamiest installment yet and the book that takes the magic system to the next level. I have a spinoff series in the same universe that debuts next year, and I’m in the process of revising a super-secret project.

SONG OF VIRGO by Kat Turner

Song of Virgo

Having relocated to Peru to prepare for the birth of their twins and be closer to their kin, life is stressful enough for wolf-shifter couple, Taylor and Julian. But when their newborn daughter vanishes from her crib, they’ll do anything to bring her home.

As a clan leader is suspected of magical malfeasance, the couple must return to a world of symbols, incantations, and curses that they thought they’d left behind.

Taylor never wanted much to do with witchcraft, but now she must depend on her birthright to save baby Luna. Once she dusts off her magical tome of the Coven Daughters lineage, though, a spell with a mind of its own infiltrates her thoughts just as Julian begins to have a series of baffling precognitions and dreams.

While simultaneously fighting to keep their strained love alive, Taylor and Julian embark on a mission to wrest little Luna from the clutches of a shadowy occult group. But the deeper they dive into magic’s dark waters, the less they understand. Will Taylor and Julian solve the magical puzzle and save their daughter—or will getting too close to the darkest secrets of the Coven Daughters system spell their demise?
