What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
A girl’s girl influencer is in for a serious reality check when she discovers she’d fallen for her best friend’s boyfriend.
How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
Since this is my first dip into contemporary romance, I wanted to set the story in a place I knew well. So I had Sofia live in the Phoenix area, where I live, and have her attend the University of Arizona, which is my alma mater!
Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?
Absolutely! Sofia is witty and easy-going, ready for whatever her friends are interested in. She’s also incredibly loyal…which proves problematic when she realizes she’s falling for her best friend’s boyfriend.
What are three words that describe your hero?
Alex is self-aware, thoughtful, and cheeky!
What’s something you learned while writing this book?
I learned about so many phenomenal, accomplished women in history! Sofia has a popular TikTok series called The Matildas – named after the Matilda Effect – which highlights women in history who have been erased from their discoveries or never received their flowers. Women who had amazing scientific breakthroughs, who invented products that we take for granted now, and have influenced the arts in ways that still leave us breathless.
Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
I do a light edit as I draft, but I usually leave myself a plethora of notes within the draft of things I want to remember during revisions or areas I want to focus on or strengthen. I find the drafting phase stressful, and don’t truly know my characters until revisions so that is the part I enjoy.
What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
This isn’t something I eat very often, and for many people it will sound bizarre (my husband thinks it is) or not very appetizing, but my mouth positively waters at the idea of eating fruit (like apples, oranges, sometimes melons) marinated in lemon juice with saladitos. Saladitos are dried and heavily salted plum or apricots that I grew up eating in Southern Arizona, and they pack a punch in all the best ways!
Describe your writing space/office!
I write at the kitchen table. I used to have a dedicated writing space in the den, but when the pandemic hit, my husband transitioned to work from home, and I was evicted from my spot. My dream is to have a little she-shed in the backyard where I can write next to all my books, with my covers and book artwork framed on the walls, but until that happens, I’m resigned to writing in the kitchen.
Who is an author you admire?
How many may I list? Seriously though, I know so many amazing authors, like Elizabeth Bright, who writes witty, emotional cowboy romances; Elizabeth Everett, who writes beautiful feminist historical romances with some of my favorite female main characters; Neely Tubati Alexander, who writes compelling and addictive rom coms you can’t put down; and Madge Maril, whose beautifully lyrical prose and witty dialogue leave me green with envy!
Is there a book that changed your life?
Sarah MacLean’s NO GOOD DUKE GOES UNPUNISHED. It was the book that made me want to be a romance writer.
Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published). Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.
When the Luna Sisters series first went on submission in 2021, I knew that it could take a long while to hear back from acquiring editors. However, the series went on to sell in less than forty-eight whirlwind hours!
What’s your favorite genre to read?
Romance! Historical romance will always be my first love, but I enjoy contemporary romance, romantic suspense, small town romance, paranormal – I’ll give them all a try!
What’s your favorite movie?
I don’t know that I have a favorite movie, but I did just watch “The Sheep Detectives” and it made me full-on ugly cry!
What is your favorite season?
Fall! Although, living in cactus Arizona means autumn is warm and short, but I do my best to make things as cozy and festive for my family as possible.
How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
I tend not to make a big deal about my birthday, so I don’t really have a preference. This past birthday I was at the Pittsburgh Book Festival, where I celebrated another year with author friends and readers, and I thought it was lovely!
What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
Well, I already mentioned “The Sheep Detective”, but I also think everyone should watch The Pitt (available on HBO Max) if they can handle the gore and occasional body horror. I think the character development is superb!
What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
Mexican!
What do you do when you have free time?
Read or build a puzzle. I’m officially middle age!
What can readers expect from you next?
I’m releasing the first book, titled RECKLESSLY YOURS, in a new historical romance series. It’s about an adventure seeking second son who butts heads with his captivating mountain guide on the slopes of the Himalayas. RECKLESSLY YOURS will be out in January!
MUTUAL DISCORD by Liana De la Rosa

A girl’s girl influencer gets a serious reality check when she discovers she’s fallen for her best friend’s boyfriend in this forbidden friends-to-lovers romance.
Sofia Mendoza has had enough. She’s done watching male co-workers steal credit for her talent, and now she’s going to do something about it. No one knows she’s the brains behind a popular video series highlighting and celebrating women in history who’ve been erased from their own inventions and discoveries. Her family and friends still think she has a successful corporate job and if they discover she is supporting herself by creating social media content, they’d be stunned.
Keeping her online persona a secret is lonely, but when she sparks a virtual friendship with an anonymous follower—A—first in her comment section with his insightful perspective, then in their private video chats, where he proves to be witty and catfish level good looking, the chemistry between them ignites.
But when her old friend, Caitlin, arrives for a visit, Sofia’s lies threaten to unravel. A is Alex Castillo, her best friend’s boyfriend. Alex doesn’t reveal that he knows her, and Sofia realizes he may be keeping secrets, too. With their friendship now in real life, can they keep their attraction in check?
