What is the title of your latest release?
HEART MARKS THE SPOT
What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
A treasure hunter and an adventure novelist with writer’s block get two chances at finding ancient riches and the love of a lifetime.
How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
I knew I wanted to write a book that featured Key West the first time I visited. It’s such a vibrant place, with a truly creative history.
Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?
Absolutely. She’s driven but fun, brave, vulnerable, and kind of a bad ass.
What are three words that describe your hero?
Huck Sullivan is loyal, wounded, smoldering
What’s something you learned while writing this book?
When I was doing research for the first part of the book, which takes place in Iceland, I learned that there is rumored to be an actual Viking treasure hidden there. I’ve seen it referred to as Skallagrimmson’s silver and it’s even featured in a famous saga.
Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
I do a bit of editing at the start of each drafting session to get back into the story, but mostly I save all my editing for when I’m totally done. I even mark up a printed copy with a pen.
What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
My husband and I love to split a crème brulee from Angus Barn when we go every Christmas.
Describe your writing space/office!
I work a day job from home, so I often don’t write in my office—it might feel like I never leave! These days, I like to sit in the library in an old Ethan Allen leather chair that my husband bought for me when I first moved into our house in 2006. It’s still so comfortable and puts me in the perfect mood to create.
Who is an author you admire?
There are so many!
Is there a book that changed your life?
Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert. Anytime I’m feeling uninspired or want to stop writing, this book makes me believe that there is a story out there waiting for me to tell it.
Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)
This is my fourth book with Berkley so there wasn’t a call for this one per se. I remember that when I sold my first book, I’d just started a new job and all but given up on publishing. Then I noticed a New York phone number on my cell during a meeting and when I checked my voicemail, it was my agent telling me that an editor at Berkley wanted to talk to me about Meet Me in Paradise. It was so surreal, I was shaking!
What’s your favorite genre to read?
I honestly read (and love) almost everything except horror (I’m too sensitive for it). If I had to choose, I’d say cozy mysteries, because they often combine elements from two of my favorites – romance and mystery.
What’s your favorite movie?
It’s a tie between House of Flying Daggers and Sense and Sensibility
What is your favorite season?
Spring. I love how everything blooms and turns green and fresh. I could do with a little less pollen but it’s worth it.
How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
Now that I’m older, I like to celebrate by having a day full of my favorite things—time with family at home, a meal from my favorite restaurant, fresh flowers in the house, and a bit of star gazing to top it off.
What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
I absolutely adored Ali Brady’s Battle of the Bookstores. It is the perfect romcom. I guzzled that effervescent little treat down in one gulp.
What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
Thai or Indian tie for first place for me.
What do you do when you have free time?
I love listening to audiobooks, painting, and family time. My husband and I like to walk our dogs together in the evenings, and I also watch Brooklyn 99 with my son and go on drives with my daughter where we share about our days.
What can readers expect from you next?
I’m not sure yet, but I’m leaning toward something mysterious with a big cast in a tropical location. Stay tuned!
HEART MARKS THE SPOT by Libby Hubscher

A treasure hunter and the bestselling adventure novelist who broke her heart after one successful expedition reunite for a summer to search for lost riches.
Treasure hunter Stella Moore dreams of having it all—wealth, love, and a flourishing career—but knows she’ll never be that lucky. Every summer she and her childhood friends travel to search for hidden treasure, but she can barely manage her bills, let alone a relationship. Then, a chance encounter with alluring novelist Huck Sullivan during an expedition in Iceland has Stella thinking maybe her fortune has changed.
After his last book bombed, Huck hasn’t written a word. Joining Stella and her crew on an adventure seems like the perfect distraction from his problems, and when the crew finally uncovers hidden treasure, he is certain that he’s found more than just inspiration for his next novel. Huck and Stella’s undeniable connection gives way to an unforgettable night on a black sand beach.
After Huck disappears without a goodbye, Stella vows to put the heartbreak behind her—but that’s easier said than done when, a year later, every bookstore has a life-size cutout of her ex-lover next to stacks of his latest record-breaking bestseller. Good thing it’s time for another summer treasure hunt. Stella throws herself into mapping the path to a shipwreck off Key West, but the last thing she expects is an extra crew member showing up in search of material for a sequel and a second chance.
Stella and Huck are prepared for storms, sharks, sea sickness, even a tentative truce. But facing the feelings they buried and confronting the devastating truth about why Huck left is the only way to find what their hearts have been searching for all along.
