Fresh FIction Box Not To Miss

Lindsay Harrel – British Innkeeper Meets Best Friend’s Brother

December 14, 2022

1–What is the title of your latest release?

LIKE A HOLIDAY INN

2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

Sparks fly when a grumpy British innkeeper who is being forced to sell her B&B gets snowed in with her best friend’s brother, a charismatic American who has offered to buy the place – and who she instantly dislikes. A charming, closed-door romance that’s perfect for a cozy fireside read.

3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

This is the fourth story in my Port Willis Romance series (though it can be read as a standalone), so I knew that it would take place in the fictional English village on the coast of Cornwall that I’d dreamed up for my other books.

4–Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?

Maybe not at first! She’s a little grouchy and rough around the edges, though she’s definitely changed since allowing her best friend Ginny into her life. Really, Rebecca is just someone who holds things close to the vest and doesn’t know how to trust—until our hero enters the picture and shakes things up for her.

5–What are three words that describe your hero?

Charming, fun, and searching

6–What’s something you learned while writing this book?

Writing this book really made me think about all the unknowns in our life. We really never do know what’s around the corner, but if we are always focused on our fears, we can miss out on so many blessings. Sometimes, we simply need to trust and take the risk that good will meet us around the unknown bends in the road.

7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

I do both. I typically reread through a scene before starting the next, and then I do a larger edit at the end as well.

8–What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

My favorite indulgence will always be ice cream. I also fuel myself with copious amounts of peach iced tea while writing.

9–Describe your writing space/office!

I have an overstuffed chair in our guest room and another in our bedroom, so I usually write in one of those.

10–Who is an author you admire?

Oh, there are so many, but Susan May Warren has been a mentor and friend to me for over a decade. I greatly admire her work ethic, her care for others, and her business sense—as well as her amazing skill at writing!

11–Is there a book that changed your life?

Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers. I read it in college and realized that I actually wanted to pursue the dream of writing novels, something I’d thought about doing since I was little (but never thought I really could).

12–Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)

This book is independently published, but the first time I got a contract with HarperCollins, I was watching my oldest son (who was 1 at the time) play at an indoor playground. My agent emailed me and then we talked while little children screamed in the background!

13–What’s your favorite genre to read?

I especially love romantic comedies and Regency romances.

14–What’s your favorite movie?

I think my favorite will always be Pride & Prejudice (the Colin Firth aka the ONLY GOOD version). Clearly, I feel strongly about this. LOL.

15–What is your favorite season?

Fall is my favorite season. My birthday is in November, and the long weekend for Thanksgiving is one of my favorites. Plus, the weather is finally nice again (I live in Phoenix, Arizona, so it’s hot until early October).

16–How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

I make a big deal of birthdays, so when I’m the birthday girl, I like to do what I feel like doing—which is usually reading, hitting up a movie (or watching a Hallmark Christmas movie), and going out to eat (pizza and ice cream).

17–What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

I recently binge-watched Virgin River on Netflix. It has a great blend of drama, friendship, and a sense of setting that is phenomenal!

18–What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

Is ice cream a type of cuisine? No? Ha. I probably enjoy Mexican food the most! Give me allllll the chips and salsa.

19–What do you do when you have free time?

Free time? What’s that? Just kidding. It’s probably not surprising, but I read and watch movies. Boring, I know.

20–What can readers expect from you next?

I plan to release LIKE A MERRY WEDDING next fall (Port Willis Romance Book 5). I also have some projects in the works that I can’t talk about just yet.

LIKE A HOLIDAY INN by Lindsay Harrel

Port Willis Romance #4

Like a Holiday Inn

Rebecca Trengrouse is quite possibly the worst businesswoman in the world.

All she ever wanted was to run her family’s bakery in tiny Port Willis, England, but that dream was squashed when her father decided to close up shop without asking her.

Now, thanks to mounting debt and an aversion to marketing (and, let’s be honest—people in general), she needs to sell the bed and breakfast she bought on a whim a few years ago.

And fast.

So when a handsome guest makes her a purchase offer that’s halfway decent, she knows she shouldn’t refuse.

But there’s just something about the guy she doesn’t like.

It doesn’t matter that the American is her friend Ginny’s older brother. Benjamin’s casual smile, perfectly tousled hair, and arrogant chocolate eyes are exactly the kind of charming Rebecca knows to keep at arms’ length.

But that becomes difficult when the two of them get snowed in together at the inn during a freak Christmas blizzard.

And as cozy as things are getting between them, Rebecca knows it wouldn’t be smart to open her heart to yet another man who is destined to leave her.

But love is not as predictable as baked goods.

And the heart does not always do what is smart.

This holiday romance is the perfect escape for readers of sweet and inspirational fiction who adore stories about love, friendship, and learning to look for the light in the twists and turns of life.
