What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
LOVE AT FIRST SIGHTING is a rom-com between a social media influencer who posts about a UFO sighting, and the sexy Man in Black sent to investigate her case. Their investigation into their shared mystery takes them on an adventure full of secrets, subterfuge, and plenty of steam.
How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
I like to set my books in places I’ve lived or know rather well. I think it helps make the location a character, too, so it was an easy pick to set LOVE AT FIRST SIGHTING in Los Angeles. LA has a ton of character, and is admittedly, kind of a weird place sometimes!
For a city so new, there’s also something so old feeling about it. I love the Old Hollywood vibes of the 40s and 50s there are markers of that all over the city still. It also helped enhance this vibe of the Cold War UFO hysteria that I wanted central to the story.
Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?
Absolutely! I feel like both El and Carter would be a blast to hang out with. They’re goofy and spontaneous, and love to have a good time.
What are three words that describe your protagonist?
For El: tenacious, snarky, and unafraid
For Carter: adorable, quick-thinking, and suave.
What’s something you learned while writing this book?
It was a first real venture into cross-genre romances for me. I was afraid to do it at first, unsure if I could pull off a mystery and a romance at the same time. It really shaped the kinds of stories I want to write going forward and showed me it’s worthwhile to challenge myself.
Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
A little bit of both. I try to take a pretty holistic approach to editing and revising because I do better when I can see the whole picture. But sometimes, if I realize something needs to be changed early enough on, I just go back and move forward once I’ve settled everything.
What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
Seafood!
Describe your writing space/office!
My writing space is in my bedroom. It’s a desk, a bookshelf with my author copies of my published books and ARCs, and a bulletin board of all my character art and other resources I want right in front of my face.
Who is an author you admire?
I have always loved Rachel Lynn Solomon, Alicia Thompson, and Alexandria Bellefleur. They are authors who I always know I’m going to love their books. I’m always in awe of how they make their romances so sexy and authentically honest.
Is there a book that changed your life?
Red White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston. It was the first adult romance I read when the pandemic started, and I realized this whole huge genre of books I was looking for existed. I wouldn’t have gone into writing rom-coms if not for that book.
Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.
I’m in California, and most of publishing is in New York, so the day of the auction for Love and Other Conspiracies, I woke up to emails where people had put offers in on my book, which was crazy. I went, got my coffee, and vibrated with anxiety and excitement until we’d finalized and accepted an offer.
What’s your favorite genre to read?
Romance! I also love horror and fantasy.
What’s your favorite movie?
Genuinely? It might be the 2002 Live Action Scooby Doo movie.
What is your favorite season?
It always used to be fall, when I lived on the east coast, but now that I live in LA, it’s Winter because it’s cold and rainy and not a hundred degrees out.
How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
I like to spend time with my friends and family, either going out to a fancier restaurant or asking my dad to make one of my favorite meals. I usually keep it pretty chill and like being around my favorite people.
What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
I just read Secret Nights and Northern Lights by Megan Oliver, which comes November 18, 2025. It was a delightful and swoony romance with a wonderful sense of place and had me looking into Airbnbs in Iceland.
What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
Italian!
What do you do when you have free time?
I play a lot of video games, try to manage my ever-growing TBR, and explore new places in the area.
What can readers expect from you next?
I will have another book coming out next summer! ENTITIES TO LOVERS is a paranormal rom-com about two rival ghost tour guides who anger a matchmaking spirit, who curses them with horrible misfortune unless they stick by each other’s sides. It’s a delightfully bonkers romance and I can’t wait to share more.
