What book made you fall in love with the genre you write?

When I was a teenager, my mom gave me my first romance novel to read. It was Barbara Cartland’s The Impetuous Duchess. That’s where my love for historical romances set in the Regency period began. Always a prolific reader, my habit took a backseat when my husband and I became the proud parents of triplets–two boys and one girl. I found life somewhat hectic with all the family and job responsibilities. Consequently, I didn’t have as much time for reading as I had in the past.

That changed when I dropped one of my sons off at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida. After an emotional goodbye, I found myself at a bookstore in the Tampa Bay Airport. Desperate to find a diversion from my tears, I picked up Eloisa James’ A Kiss at Midnight. I devoured that book. When I returned home to Kansas City, I read every one of her delightful stories. Hungry for more, I discovered Lisa Kleypas and so many other wonderful authors. Ever since that fateful day, I’m back to being a fanatical historical romance reader. Thank you, Eloisa!

If a movie were made of your most recent book, who would you cast in
the lead and why?

For Alex, I’d cast Tom Hardy. Need you ask why? For Claire, I’d cast either Emily Blunt or perhaps Emma Watson. I’m leaning toward Emily. I love her eyes.

What was the first story you wrote?

My first published book was THE BAD LUCK BRIDE. The original title was The Secret Affairs of a Duke’s Daughter.

If you could change the ending to any famous book, TV show, or movie, what would it be and how would you rewrite it?

I don’t think I’d try. Even if I didn’t like the original versions, there’s always a fabulous lesson to be learned from such stories. However, my heart will always be broken that Rhett and Scarlett couldn’t make a go of it. I always wanted Rochester to be more upfront with Jane. Romeo and Juliet? Don’t even get me started!

What is your favorite part of meeting your readers?

I love everything about my readers because I’m such a big reader myself. There’s nothing I love more than getting book recommendations and discussing why we as readers fall in love with particular books. Since I’m a new author, anyone who has read my book is a new reader to me! LOL! But if they’re new to reading romance, I give them a warm welcome. I ask about their favorite authors and share some of mine! Book lovers are the best!
