What book made you fall in love with the genre you write?

There wasn’t just one book, but rather a series. I adore Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum, Lula and Grandma Mazur. When the series finally comes to an end, I will absolutely die if Stephanie chooses Joe over Ranger. I’d rather see Stephanie’s romantic future up in the air for each reader to choose Stephanie’s happily-ever-after how he or she sees fit. So although Janet Evanovich’s mysteries aren’t considered cozies, I tend to push the boundaries of the genre because of her. 🙂

If a movie were made of your most recent book, who would you cast in
the lead and why?

Model/actress Noémie Lenoir was the inspiration for Charli Rae Warren in my Book Barn series. Charli Rae is bi-racial with the down-to-earth beauty of a tomboy heroine. She doesn’t see her wild curls as a thing to envy, nor does she see her tall skinny frame as having a particularly feminine appeal. She’d rather have the more curvy physique that is popular in today’s society. Like most of us, Charli Rae has a tendency to be too hard on herself.

What was the first story you ever wrote?

A romance inspired by the late, great golfer Severiano Ballesteros. I didn’t play golf, nor was I a fan of the sport, but we didn’t have a remote for the TV back then, so when golf came on the television and Seve’s dreamy eyes filled the screen, I was inspired. I still have the story, but it will remain mine, and mine alone.

If you could change the ending to any famous book, TV show, or
movie, what would it be and how would you rewrite it? (Spoiler alert!)

Wonder Woman. I get that every hero must have a tragic love life in the DC Comics world, but jeez-louise, Steve Trevor is too dreamy to die! Bring him back as a super-hero created from the explosion of the bomb. While you’re at it, bring back Wonder Woman’s aunt, Antiope. That woman kicked a**! I would love to see a movie just about the Amazons going into battle! Every man, woman, and child on the planet loved those scenes in Wonder Woman.

When meeting my readers, I like being able to show my appreciation to them for choosing my books over thousands and thousands of other books they could pick to read. And secondly, this sounds a bit self-absorbed, but I love to meet people who have shared a private smile, a giggle, a tear, or a feel-good moment with me from one of my books. Writing those scenes allows me to forget about my troubles, and I hope reading my books does the same for my readers. If my writing has done that, that validates my reason to write. When meeting new readers, I enjoy their passion for reading! I love to hear about books that other readers adore–it opens up new avenues for me to explore at the library and the bookstore.
