Samantha Young | 20 Questions: A COSMIC KIND OF LOVE

October 18, 2022

1–What is the title of your latest release?

A COSMIC KIND OF LOVE

2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

An astronaut and an event planner’s worlds romantically collide when she accidentally stumbles across the video diaries he recorded aboard the International Space Station.

3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

I wanted to set the book in a city that was modern and fast-paced as a polar opposite to what my hero had experienced living on the ISS for five months. New York City seemed like the obvious and fun choice.

4–Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?

Absolutely! There are facets of Hallie’s personalities inspired by a few of my friends.

5–What are three words that describe your hero?

Smart, sexy, and honorable.

6–What’s something you learned while writing this book?

I learned what life is like for astronauts aboard the International Space Station.

7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

Yes, I edit every chapter after I write it and then once the full draft is complete, I go back and re-edit the whole thing in its entirety before I send it to my editor.

8–What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

That’s a toss-up between profiteroles and fajitas. Both?

9–Describe your writing space/office!

Bookcases on three sides, a desk and desktop computer in the middle, lots of fairy lights, and two little pups curled up on blankets at my feet.

10–Who is an author you admire?

K.A. Tucker. I love her writing style and how three-dimensional her characters are. Her writing always elicits deep emotions from me.

11–Is there a book that changed your life?

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. I read that book when I was seven years old and it was the book that made me want to be a writer.

12–Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)

We sent the proposal for A COSMIC KIND OF LOVE to my publisher Berkley at the beginning of 2021. Even though I’ve been lucky to publish with Berkley since 2012, I was still really anxious to see if they’d like the concept. Thankfully, they loved it! And now here we are over a year later and ready to introduce Chris and Hallie to the world.

13–What’s your favorite genre to read?

I can’t decide between contemporary, fantasy, and paranormal romance. I love them all equally.

14–What’s your favorite movie?

It’s so difficult to choose a favorite movie so I’ll pick my go-to comfort movie which is Pride and Prejudice (2005).

15–What is your favorite season?

Autumn. I love fall colors, smells, weather, and wardrobe.

16–How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

Dinner at my favorite restaurant with my favorite people.

17–What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

TV Show – Heartstopper (Netflix), Movie – CODA, Podcast – Armchair Expert

18–What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

Mexican

19–What do you do when you have free time?

I spend it with family and friends, or I spend it reading.

20–What can readers expect from you next?

A hilarious and sexy venture into the fake relationship trope.

A COSMIC KIND OF LOVE by Samantha Young

A Cosmic Kind of Love

When event planner Hallie Goodman receives party-inspiration material from the bride of her latest wedding project, the last thing she expects to find is a collection of digital videos from Darcy’s ex-boyfriend. Hallie knows it’s wrong to keep watching these personal videos, but this guy is cute, funny, and an astronaut on the International Space Station to boot. She’s only human. And it’s not long until she starts sending e-mails and video diaries to his discontinued NASA address. Since they’re bouncing back, there’s no way anyone will ever be able to see them…right?

Christopher Ortiz is readjusting to life on earth and being constantly in the shadow of his deceased older brother. When a friend from NASA’s IT department forwards him the e-mails and video messages Hallie has sent, he can’t help but notice how much her sense of humor and pink hair make his heart race.

Separated by screens, Hallie and Chris are falling in love with each other, one transmission at a time. But can they make their star-crossed romance work when they each learn the other’s baggage?
