1–What is the title of your latest release?

LOVE ON A WHIM – book 3 in the Cape Cod Creamery Series

2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

She met the man of her dreams. She married him. And then she ran away.

3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

Choosing the setting was a breeze – Cape Cod had this magnetic pull. Why? Well, because that’s where the Main Street Creamery, the heart of the story, stood tall. It was the obvious destination for Brynn Haywood, my main character in Love on a Whim, to make a beeline after her whirlwind marriage to a guy she’d only known for a mere 24 hours. Cape Cod became more than just a beautiful canvas backdrop; it became the place of refuge and recovery, both for Brynn and for the other characters in the series.

4–Would you hang out with your protagonist in real life?

Definitely! Brynn Haywood would be the ideal hangout buddy in real life. She’s not just a protagonist; she’s the kind of friend who’s there for you through thick and thin. Imagine the laughter, the adventures, and the unwavering support – Brynn brings all that and more to the friendship table. So, yes, count me in for a real-life hangout with Brynn any day!

5–What are three words that describe your protagonist?

Reliable. Diligent. Unpredictable  – which perfectly sums up the essence of Love on a Whim.

6–What’s something you learned while writing this book?

One fascinating aspect I delved into was the inner workings of restaurant kitchens. Brynn stepped in to help Callie Dixon (from The Secret to Happiness) I gained insights into their meticulous organization, strategically designed for maximum efficiency. Discovering how items are labeled and shelved to accommodate the dynamic nature of a constantly changing workforce was an eye-opener for me. It’s a behind-the-scenes dance of precision and adaptability that goes unnoticed by diners.

7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

Oh, it’s a bit of a writing rollercoaster for me! I like to call it the “edit-as-you-go” method. It’s like trying to resist the urge to eat that last piece of chocolate – impossible! So, as I draft, I can’t help but tweak here, adjust there. Keeps the process interesting, you know?

8–What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

I’d have to say a velvety cafe latte. It’s liquid happiness in a cup – that perfect blend of espresso and steamed milk. The aroma alone is a mini-vacation, and each sip feels like a warm, comforting hug. It’s the way I start every morning. Trust me, I never take it for granted!

9–Describe your writing space/office!

Picture this: a cramped, pint-sized laundry room tucked strategically off the kitchen. Now, add two yellow labs who do not respect the concept of personal space. It might sound odd, but this peculiar setup works for me.

10–Who is an author you admire?

Oh, there are loads of authors I admire, but if I had to pick one, it would be fellow Revell author Shelley Shepard Gray. A New York Times bestselling author, she’s penned over 120 books! Besides talent, she puts in the hard work needed for promotion. We’ve done some author gigs together, and I always leave feeling like I’ve learned a few things from a true professional.

11–Is there a book that changed your life?

Oh, absolutely! When I was a teenager, I read Anne Morrow Lindbergh’s journals, and devoured those pages like they were the last slice of pizza at a party. Lindbergh’s insights just resonated with me in a way that stuck – it was like getting a sneak peek into someone else’s mind. She definitely left her mark and nudged me a bit closer to setting my sails as a writer.

12–Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)/Or, for indie authors, when you decided to self-publish.

Ah, “the call” story! So, I penned this WWII love story and it was a rejection fiesta from most every traditional publisher. But a couple of small royalty presses came through with offers. I took the plunge with one, and boy, did it turn out to be a fantastic ride. That little book went on to snag some awards, and an agent noticed, swooped in, and landed me a very sweet spot at Revell Books.

Here’s the plot twist –sixteen years later, I’m still receiving a monthly royalty check from that small royalty press. Moral of the story? Don’t underestimate the power of small beginnings.

13–What’s your favorite genre to read?

Historical fiction is my all-time favorite. So much still to learn in life!

14–What’s your favorite movie?

Anything with George Clooney in it. Or even if he’s behind the scenes, like Boys in the Boat.

15–What is your favorite season?

Spring takes the cake for me, hands down. I’m a bit of a gardening enthusiast and I can’t help but feel like God’s flexing a bit, showing off a hint of Heaven.

16–How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

When it comes to birthdays, I’ve mastered the art of ducking. No grand announcements on social media, no big expectations from friends or family. I’m just not big on the whole attention thing. Give me a low-key day, some cards in the mail, and I’m golden. The quieter, the better!

17–What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

Currently watching Season 2 of The Gilded Age – it’s a trip to the late 1800s, when the world is rapidly changing. Meryl Streep’s daughter, who plays Marion Brook, adds a fantastic touch, but Christine Baranski as Aunt Agnes steals the whole show. Picture a proud and stubborn aristocrat who’s absolutely refusing to budge with the changing times. I’m hooked! Totally worth the binge-watch.

18–What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

Living in Hong Kong for four years ignited a serious flame for Chinese cuisine in my heart. It’s like each bite brings back a flood of memories from those vibrant, bustling streets. So Chinese food has definitely claimed the throne as my all-time favorite.

19–What do you do when you have free time?

Lately, I’ve been diving into the world of watercoloring – it’s my newest hobby, I’m a complete amateur, yet I’m loving the creative escape it offers. The only hitch? It demands a good chunk of peace and quiet, and let’s just say my busy household doesn’t exactly serve that up on a silver platter! Nonetheless, I manage to snatch moments here and there.

20–What can readers expect from you next?

Get ready for my upcoming series, A Year of Flowers – it’s a rollercoaster of emotions delivered in four e-novellas, each released seasonally. Picture this: three teenage girls, best buddies working in a flower shop. Life is blooming until one scorching August day when things take a dark turn, and they scatter like petals in the wind.

Here’s the twist – each girl gets her own novella, letting readers in on the choices she’s made since that fateful day. And just when you think you’ve pieced it all together, the fourth novella swoops in, spills the beans, and unveils the dreadful occurrence that rocked their world. It’s a floral journey filled with drama, decisions, and a touch of mystery that’ll keep you hooked until the last petal falls. Can’t wait for you to dive in!

Cape Cod Creamery #3

Love on a Whim

Brynn Haywood’s impulsive marriage to a man she’d known less than 24 hours leaves her with deep regret. She flees to Cape Cod, finding refuge with her loyal friend, Dawn Dixon. As Brynn grapples with her emotions, Dawn acts swiftly, eager to help secure a lawyer for her through her mother Marnie’s good friend, Lincoln Hayes. However, Lincoln’s preoccupation with his daughter’s lavish wedding brings unexpected challenges.

The arrival of Lincoln’s estranged son, Bear Hayes, stirs the waters further. Alarmed by his father’s extravagant generosity toward the Dixon family, Bear ignites friction between Marnie and Lincoln. As the wedding day arrives, Lincoln vanishes–and an unwelcome guest makes a surprise appearance.
