Author Guest / July 26, 2022

Instead of trying to find your perfect match in a dating app, we bring you the “Author-Reader Match” where we introduce you to authors you may fall in love with. It’s our great pleasure to present Jennie Marts!   Writes: Hi! I’m Jennie Marts, an award-winning author who writes small town stories with humor and heart. In my books, you’ll usually find at least one adorable dog, a sassy old lady who loves to dispense worldly and often hilarious advice, a swoon-worthy hero, and a heroine who can hold her own against anything the world throws at her. And often, an ornery goat shows up to cause trouble as well. Like in my newest book, NEVER ENOUGH COWBOY, where Otis, the resident ornery goat of the Heaven Can Wait Horse Rescue ranch, traps the feisty librarian, Jillian Bennett, in the loft of the barn after having wrestled her maple syrup-scented wrap skirt from her body. As luck would have it, Deputy Ethan Rayburn, the guy she’s been crushing on, is the one to come to her rescue, except she wasn’t prepared for him to catch her wearing only superhero undies and a sheepish grin. As a single mom, Jillian barely…

Imagine ‘Bridesmaids’ meets ‘He’s Just Not That Into You’ with a sprinkle of ‘Suits’. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? A seaside location for a wedding sounded perfect so I chose the Norfolk coast as it’s somewhere I love to visit. 4–Would you hang out with your heroine in real life? I definitely would hang out with Ella somewhere chilled for a natter but I think Lucy and I would have a whale of a time. 5–What are three words that describe your hero? Hot, Caring and Troubled 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? That there’s a lot more to altering wedding dresses than just turning up a hem. 7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done? Ruby Barrett | 20 Questions: THE ROMANCE RECIPE
Author Guest / July 12, 2022

What is the title of your latest release? THE ROMANCE RECIPE   What’s the elevator pitch for your new book? A restaurant owner hires a former TV reality star to save her struggling restaurant only to discover that the talented but sad woman seems determined to undermine her authority at every turn. When fire spreads from the kitchen to the bedroom they’re forced to confront their growing attraction before they lose everything.   How did you decide where your book was going to take place? The Romance Recipe takes place in the same universe as my debut, Hot Copy, so I was able to inherit the setting: a new restaurant in the city of Boston. I loved being able to return to that world.   Would you hang out with your heroines in real life? Definitely! Amy is tough but secretly soft and Sophie is an excellent cook (dinner dates!) and Canadian (just like me!)   What are three words to describe The Romance Recipe? Steamy. Foodies. Love.   What’s something you learned while writing this book? The Romance Recipe was my second book, and I was so scared that the first book was a fluke, but it wasn’t! It…

Traci Douglass | 20 Questions: THEIR BARCELONA BABY BOMBSHELL
Author Guest / July 6, 2022

1–What is the title of your latest release? THEIR BARCELONA BABY BOMBSHELL 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Isabella Rivas is a free-spirited paramedic and Carlos Martinez is a nurse on a mission, determined to discover more about his late father. Barcelona brought them together, but will their pasts tear them apart? 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? Well, this book is actually part of a continuity, meaning four books tied together through the setting and also the characters—who are sometimes related or just work together in the same facility—so the Barcelona setting was already chosen for me when I received the brief from the editors. But don’t worry. Each book is a standalone and you can start with any of them (though we hope that once you finish one book, you’ll want to read the rest!) 4–Would you hang out with your heroine in real life? Absolutely. Isabella Rivas, my heroine, is such a cool person. Strong, independent, yet caring and so concerned about the well-being of those around her. She a caretaker, grew up in that role, so she’s used to taking charge and making sure things get done right….

Jessica Martin | EXIT, PURSUED BY A DOG
Author Guest / June 28, 2022

by Jessica Martin Call me a nerd, but when I find myself in a writerly pretzel knot, I like to think about William Shakespeare and what he might have done to get the words flowing. Partly because I am a huge nerd and partly because for someone whose works are so well-known, the man behind them was a complete enigma. For example, there’s an ongoing debate as to whether the Bard was a dog fan. He was clearly a big proponent of canine imagery (there are over a hundred references in his plays to dogs), but these references tended to be…less than flattering.  Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war, anyone? Or how about King Lear’s dog-hearted daughters? Woof. But then again, Shakespeare also seemed to recognize that dogs could be invaluable furry writing tools. In Act II, Scene 3 of The Two Gentlemen of Verona, Crab—a moderately-sized, poorly behaved canine specimen—trots on stage, promptly relieves himself under a banquet table and proceeds to go down as one of the most memorable of scene-stealing, non-speaking roles in all of Shakespeare’s works. Who doesn’t love a bit with a dog? Like Crab, a pup on the page can be…

Bridget Morrissey | 20 Questions: A THOUSAND MILES
Author Guest / June 24, 2022

1–What is the title of your latest release? A THOUSAND MILES 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Dee and Ben, estranged best friends who haven’t spoken in a decade, reunite for the ten-year reunion road trip they promised each other back in high school that they’d take. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? The story opens in Chicago. I’m from Oak Forest, which is a southwest suburb of Chicago, and I went to college in the city. This is my fourth novel. Up until now I’ve never officially set a book in Chicago. So it felt like time! As for the road trip element, the particular journey Dee and Ben take—Illinois to Colorado—is one I have driven dozens of times in my life. That certainly helped when it came to the research aspect of this book. 4–Would you hang out with your heroine in real life? Absolutely. She is bold and entertaining, and I know she’d be a blast. But I wouldn’t go on her podcast. My secrets are for me and me alone! Sorry Dee! 5–What are three words that describe your hero? Charming, sensitive, sweet 6–What’s something you learned while…

Sofia Sawyer | 20 Questions: ONE UNEXPECTED ADVENTURE
Author Guest / June 24, 2022

1–What is the title of your latest release? ONE UNEXPECTED ADVENTURE 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? When a busy executive takes a last-minute trip to Iceland, she discovers a new life path and love interest as she helps a handsome search and rescue pilot uncover what’s threatening his town’s fishing trade. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? I love to travel, so my trips often inspire book ideas. I was lucky enough to travel to Iceland in 2018 and found it absolutely magical. Between the breathtaking landscapes and the dancing Northern Lights, I thought it could be a perfect backdrop for a romance (even despite the frigid temperatures!). Even better, the way of life in a small Icelandic town seemed like a perfect “fish out of water” experience for a busy big city executive like Ava Espinosa. It forces her to pause long enough to take stock of her life and consider what she really wants. If you want to learn more about the inspiration for my setting, check out this blog I wrote about it on my author site here. 4–Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?…
