Holly Newman Interview – History and Mystery Mixed With Romance
Author Guest , Interviews / April 12, 2022

In HEART OF A TIGER, a child is in danger. What made you use this element in your story? Was that meant to increase the tension and engage the reader even more? The child in the story is because of the Earl of Soothcoor. He has been a “cast member” in three previous stories. I’ve become quite fond of him. He’s 40ish, never married, plain looking, and secretly heavy into philanthropy. I decided he was in a rut and needed something to push him out of his comfort zone. The child is his heir through his brother and his Indian wife.   I like a mystery series with a couple who solves mysteries together. Was it always the plan to have a mystery series with a married couple? Or did things change as you began writing the first book? Things changed after I wrote the first book, THE WAYLAID HEART. Readers requested I have them in a series. So, I did! I adore them. They are a loving couple, opposites that complement each other.   I love historical romances and historical mysteries, but I always wonder one thing. How much research went into a book like this? Are you a…

Callie Hutton Interview – Highlander Hotties
Author Guest , Interviews / April 6, 2022

In TO MARRY A HIGHLANDER, the hero and heroine are made to marry after being found in a somewhat compromising situation. As a romance fan, I like that trope because it’s a quick way of getting two people together who otherwise might not. As a writer, what do you like about using that trope? I like using that trope because sometimes the characters do want to be together, but there is something holding them back. In To Marry a Highlander, that’s what the situation is. Maura has always had a fancy for Conall, but he has such a reputation with the lasses, that she fears if they ever married, he would break her heart.   Your hero’s reputation with women precedes him in this book, and cause trouble in one way or another. How would you describe him to readers? As the younger brother of the Laird of Sutherland, and right hand man to the laird, Conall holds a prominent place in the Clan. He is tall, slender, but all muscle. His long brown hair is tied back with a strip of leather. He uses his deep blue eyes, mesmerizing smile, good looks, and charm to pursue the lasses, who…

Linda Broday | Exclusive Excerpt: A MAN OF LEGEND
Author Guest / March 30, 2022

Just because trouble has come visiting doesn’t mean you have to offer it a place to sit down. That had always been Crockett Legend’s motto and it had served him well. Until now. Looked like it might be too late at this point for any type of homespun cowboy wisdom. The dye had been cast. Rays of an apricot sky through the idling train’s window sent a reminder that his early morning travel could yield yet more surprises and it was best to be prepared. If possible. He rubbed his face with his hands and glanced around at the people still filling the car. A group of men in rough work clothes were talking about going to the oil fields, hoping to find work in the Texas boom towns that had recently sprung up overnight. In fact, the black gold and talk of getting rich seemed on everyone’s minds these days. A swish of delicate fabric brushing his legs interrupted his thoughts as a woman hesitated, probably scanning the car for a choice of empty seats. Finally, she mumbled something under her breath and took the seat across the narrow aisle from him. The faint scent of sage and wildflowers…

Madeline Martin Interview – Highland Romance
Author Guest , Interviews / March 18, 2022

Your book THE HIGHLANDER’S STOLEN BRIDE is described as an enemies-to-lovers romance. Not counting a few exceptions that prove the rule, I’ve always been more of a friends-to-lovers fan. What is the dynamic between these two characters? And what makes their love story so compelling? I confess, I’m a huge enemies-to-lovers fan, especially when it includes a wounded hero…which this one does. When the Campbell clan comes back from their exile in Ireland to reclaim their land in Scotland, the McMillan siblings scramble to ally themselves through the best way they could in those days – through marriage. This is the last book of the Highland Alliance’s series and the heroine, Elspeth MacMillan, is supposed to wed the son of a neighboring laird, but on her way to the unwanted union, she gets kidnapped by Calum Campbell, son of the notoriously cruel Alexander Campbell who killed Elspeth’s father and many of their people. However, Calum Campbell is not only the son of a terrible and powerful man, he’s also the hero of The Highlander’s Stolen Bride.   Do you like to throw third act surprises in your romances? Like the hero and heroine almost have their relationship worked out when…

Jess Michaels | 20 Questions: THE QUEEN’S MAN
Author Guest / March 14, 2022

1–What is the title of your latest release? THE QUEEN’S MAN is out March 15. 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? After years of longing, a change in power may allow Queen Giabella of Athawick to finally act on her feelings for her longtime secretary, Dashiell Talbot. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? The series, Regency Royals, is about a fictional royal family who come to London to match the eldest daughter for political purposes. So the first two books take place in London, the final three in the island country of Athawick. 4–Would you hang out with your heroine in real life? Giabella is smart and kind and progressive, she’d be awesome to hang out with! 5–What are three words that describe your hero? Serious, responsible, smoking hot 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? I’m not sure I really learned anything. I’ve been doing this for a long time, so I’m pretty solid in my writing and with my settings. I did love writing an older couple though (both over 50). 7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done? I edit after I draft….

Amy Sandas | 20 Questions: TEMPTING THE EARL
Author Guest / March 9, 2022

1–What is the title of your latest release? TEMPTING THE EARL, Wright Bastards Book #1 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? The Earl of Wright is determined to acknowledge his illegitimate sister and provide her with the life she’d been denied. But first, he must convince the stubborn Scotswoman who raised her that he isn’t the villain his father had been. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? The hero in this book first appeared in an earlier book of mine, Luck is No Lady, which was set in Regency London. I wanted to continue his story and though he makes a short trip to the Scottish Lowlands, most of the book takes place in London where more characters from previous books make appearances. 4–Would you hang out with your heroine in real life? Of course! With her straight-forward attitude and fierce loyalty, Ainsworth would be a great friend to have. 5–What are three words that describe your hero? Reserved, shy, passionate 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? I learned that although I love an alpha hero, there is something to be said for the quieter, more restrained hero who finally…

Meara Platt | 20 Questions: THE TREASURE OF LOVE
Author Guest / March 9, 2022

1–What is the title of your latest release? THE TREASURE OF LOVE which is lucky thirteen in my Book of Love series, a charmingly humorous Regency romance series that deals with a mysterious book that seems to hold the secrets to finding true love. When I signed on to write these stories, my publisher and I were contemplating maybe six books in all, but they are so much fun and have developed a following, so I would love to keep writing them until I turn 100! 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Think of the ‘traveling pants’ stories. In my series, each heroine passes along the mysterious Book of Love to a friend or relative ready to make their debut in London Society in the hope the wisdom in this book will lead them to finding their true love. The strength of these stories is that while they are cute and fictional romances, the advice in this Book of Love is quite real and based on the neurological behaviors in our brain associated with love. Male and female brains work differently, so these stories delve into these different aspects. What first attracts a man to a woman? How…

Shana Galen | 20 Questions: I WANT YOU TO WANT ME
Author Guest / March 8, 2022

1–What is the title of your latest release? I WANT YOU TO WANT ME 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? A grumpy wounded hero makes a marriage of convenience with a sunny heroine in trouble. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? The hero is wounded physically and a recluse at his country estate. The heroine lives at a nearby estate, so the characters really dictated the setting. 4–Would you hang out with your heroine in real life? The heroine is Amelia, and I would absolutely hang out with her in real life. She’s really fun and likes to have a good time. She’s also a very compassionate person who cares deeply. I think she’d make a great friend. 5–What are three words that describe your hero? Grumpy, vulnerable, guarded 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? I learned a lot about Gloucestershire Old Spots, which is a type of pig. The heroine has a pet Gloucestershire Old Spots named Sweetie. 7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done? I wait until I’m done, but sometimes I do go back and change or add to something I’ve…
