HAPPILY NEVER AFTER Excerpt   Max   I KNOCKED ON the hotel room door and waited. This was my least favorite part. More often than not, the bride who desperately wanted out of her own wedding was an emotional mess afterward, shocked by the end of what she thought would be the beginning of the rest of their lives together. And I was not the reassuring kind. Back pats and handkerchiefs were not my thing. I just needed my money and to get the hell out of there. On a side note, who the hell doesn’t have Venmo or PayPal? I heard a noise just before the door flew open. “The Objector!” A blonde in a Red Hot Chili Peppers T-shirt that went down to her knees grinned at me. “I’m Asha. We talked on the phone . . . ?” Ah, yes. The bride’s best friend and my college roommate’s cousin. “So you’re Tom’s cousin.” “Yes!” She grinned again, and I realized she was totally buzzed. “Come in!” She held open the door, and I followed her inside what was obviously the bridal suite. Huge living room, bedroom to the left that appeared to have rose petals everywhere, and…

Lynn Painter | A Wager Leads to an Unexpected Romance
Author Guest / March 17, 2023

1–What is the title of your latest release? THE LOVE WAGER 2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book? Two singles team up to help each other find The One, but might just end up falling for each other, instead. 3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place? I chose Omaha because it’s where I live, and there was no reason not to set it here. (It’s a great city lol). 4–Would you hang out with your heroine in real life? Absolutely. She’s sarcastic and a little foul-mouthed; my favorite kind of friend! 5–What are three words that describe your hero? Fun, sarcastic, hilarious (also hot and swoony because ROMANCE). 6–What’s something you learned while writing this book? I actually discovered while writing this book that I write better at 4am than 11pm. I’ve always been a burning-the-midnight-oil writer, so this has blown my mind. 7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done? Both. For the most part I wait until I’m done, but the first chapter seems to get edited every time I open the doc. 8–What’s your favorite foodie indulgence? I’m such a child regarding food (aka picky). I…

As a woman, I sometimes feel like I’m too critical of female protagonists. Tess Greene, the heroine in DISASTER GIRL by Michelle Dayton, is realistically flawed, but I admire her determination, intelligence, and her mix of toughness and plenty of heart. It’s something the hero in this story admires too, and why he ends up falling for her. Tess had a somewhat chaotic childhood, constantly doing damage control. As a result, that became kind of what she does for a career. This story involves revenge porn, and Tess collaborates with potential employee and tech geek she’s hopelessly attracted to, Max Hampshire, to bring down the sleezebag behind it all. I like characters who are multifaceted, and Tess qualifies for sure. She’s not the stereotypical cold-hearted businesswoman. She’s had some life experiences that have made her more guarded, but she cares about a lot of people and is fiercely loyal. Since the story is told strictly from Tess’s perspective, you naturally sympathize with her, and you relate to her insecurity about Max’s feelings for her. The chemistry between Tess and Max is phenomenal and the witty banter makes the steamy scenes even better when they eventually happen. I have fallen down…
