The Character Most Likely – Lisa Edmonds

November 3, 2022

To celebrate Lisa Edmonds‘ new book MORTAL HEART, we here at Fresh Fiction thought it would be a fun way for readers to get to know her characters better (from her many many fab books) to play a little game we call “The Character Most Likely”. If you’re new to her Alice Worth world – It’s a mix of magic and action-packed storytelling. Lisa is free to select her answers from any of her paranormal series.

Most likely to figure out a way to use an enemy’s strength against them?

Definitely Alice! After a lifetime of fighting for survival, she instinctually evaluates everyone around her to figure out their strengths, weaknesses, vulnerabilities, and motivations, because she knows she has to be prepared in case they turn against her.  Alice Worth series

Heart of the Pack by Lisa Edmonds

Most likely to be underestimated?

Malcolm, Alice’s snarky ghost sidekick, always gets underestimated – even by Alice. People and supernatural beings tend to think just because he’s dead that he’ll be easy to defeat. That couldn’t be farther from the truth. And like Alice, he plays his cards very close to the vest, especially when it comes to his powers and abilities. He even surprises me sometimes, and that takes some doing!

Most likely to wield magic like a boss?

Back to Alice for this one. She’s powerful, creative, and adaptable, and she’s seen a LOT in her lifetime. That means she’s both prepared for most anything and she has fast reflexes. She acts on instinct when something happens because for mages that’s the difference between life and death. With her earth, air, and blood magic, and a little bit of water magic she borrowed from Malcolm, Alice can do almost anything, from conducting lightning to…well, much bigger, badder things.

HEART OF MALICE

Most likely to save the day against all odds?

A lot of my characters have managed to save the day against all odds, thanks to their individual powers and quick thinking, but again it’s Malcolm the ghost who comes to mind first. While he shares some similar abilities with Alice, since they’re both mages, his mind works a little differently. He has a different perspective on things and often thinks of different solutions to dire situations. It’s one of the reasons they make such a great team. Alice is a Gemini and Malcolm is a Libra. They balance each other out really well. While Alice tends to charge headlong into a battle, Malcolm is more likely to outsmart or outflank their opponent.

Most likely to have the coolest otherworldly powers?

Ooh, this one goes to witch and coffee shop owner Carly Reese, who joins the series in Book 4! While I love having a mage main character, Carly’s witchy powers, gifts, and knowledge are always so amazing. She weaves spells, creates protective amulets, cooks up weapons for attack and defense, reads tarot cards, and manifests magic on the daily in her coffee shop by baking and brewing. I adore her.  HEART OF STONE

Most likely to be misunderstood?

Charles Vaughan, the vampire, for sure. His motivations are always complex and not at all what they seem. He also actively cultivates misunderstanding and mystery and uses both to his advantage. One of those characters you love to hate or hate to love, or both.

Most likely to kiss and tell?

Ugh, Charles. Bad vampire. I love him but sometimes I want to punch him – especially when he shows his true colors.

Most likely to dazzle their admirers with snazzy battle skills?

Badass Arkady Woodall, a human, takes this prize. She joins the series in Book 3. A former PsyOps special forces soldier stationed out of Fort Bragg, she left the army to become a private investigator and works for the Vampire Court as a PI. She’s tough, funny, loyal, and deadly, especially with knives.  MORTAL HEART

Most likely to bounce back quickly from an injury?

The werewolves of the Tomb Mountain Pack bounce back quickly from injuries thanks to their shifter magic and healing abilities. Led by alpha werewolf Sean Maclin, the urban pack has about a dozen members at the start of the series. Members come and go throughout the books for various reasons, but the pack grows and becomes more stable and powerful as they face various enemies. Battles are brutal, so it’s good that shifters physically heal quickly, even if the emotional and psychological wounds take far more time to mend.

Heart of Vengeance (Alice Worth Book 6) by [Lisa Edmonds]

Most likely to choose love over revenge?

Sean Maclin, Alice’s boyfriend and alpha of the Tomb Mountain Pack takes this award. Love is at the center of everything for Sean. He leads and protects his pack, fighting only when necessary, and continues to increase in dominance and authority, not because of the fear he instills, but because his pack loves him and knows he loves them as well. He has certainly taken revenge when it’s called for, but almost always because someone has harmed someone he loves. If forced to choose between the two, he will choose love every time.

MORTAL HEART by Lisa Edmonds

Mortal Heart

A fallen angel sentenced to a mortal life among humans.
A former soldier turned private investigator who’s been there, killed that.
The bad guys don’t have a prayer.

Ronan, once the archangel Remiel, chose to fall from Heaven after breaking angelic law. For centuries, he lived and worked among humans as a bounty hunter. A chance encounter with the mysterious mage Alice Worth in the so-called Broken World forced him to violate angelic law once more to save millions of lives. Cut off from his kin with his wings and power bound, Ronan is a man without a future, purpose, or reason to live.

Arkady Woodall left a dangerous job at the Vampire Court to return to the profession she loves most: private investigator. Now she’s Alice Worth’s business partner, and for the first time in years she’s calling her own shots. Most of all she wants to find the enigmatic Ronan, who’d shown up in Alice’s yard beaten nearly to death and then vanished again as soon as he’d recovered.

Sparks fly when Ronan and Arkady cross paths and stumble upon a kidnapping in progress. What starts as a simple rescue turns into a deadly mystery that sends them on a wild and daring chase from the city’s most depraved depths to its grandest penthouses. When their shared addiction to danger sets them against a powerful enemy, Ronan and Arkady realize their only hope of survival is each other, but a devastating secret might spell doom for them both.
