Marie Force | 20 Questions: SOMEONE LIKE YOU

March 22, 2022

1–What is the title of your latest release?

SOMEONE LIKE YOU, the Wild Widows Series Book 1

2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?

A newly widowed young woman must figure out what’s next when the life she thought she was going to live is ripped away in a single moment of senseless violence. When a group of young widows wrap their arms around her, she begins to find hope for the future.

3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place?

It’s a spin off from my Fatal and First Family Series, which are set in Washington, D.C. The main character in Someone Like You is introduced in book 14 of the Fatal Series, but you don’t have to have read Fatal to connect with the Wild Widows.

4–Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?

Absolutely. She’s a strong, courageous woman who inspired me as I was writing her.

5–What are three words that describe your hero?

Resilient, ambitious, loving

6–What’s something you learned while writing this book?

I learned a lot about the unique journey of younger widows. When people think of a “widow,” they picture white-haired old women or men. They don’t think of people in their twenties or thirties who lose their spouse prematurely.

7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?

I do both. It just depends on the book and how much work it needs.

8–What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?

Anything Italian or Mexican—they are tied for first place.

9–Describe your writing space/office!

I write mostly on the sofa or in bed. In the summer, I write by the pool or on the boat my parents left me.

10–Who is an author you admire?

Nora Roberts. Her career is amazing.

11–Is there a book that changed your life?

Not one that changed my life, but one of my favorite reading stories was devouring The Thorn Birds when I was 14 and how proud my mother was of me reading that brick of a book… Until she read it and freaked out about the priest fooling around with the young woman. LOL, her reaction was hilarious!

12–Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)

I sold the seventh book I wrote in 2007 and it came out in 2008. I indie published my first book in late 2010, and that was the game changer for my career.

13–What’s your favorite genre to read?

I read a ton of nonfiction. I love memoirs.

14–What’s your favorite movie?

Pretty Woman

15–What is your favorite season?

I love them all for different reasons, but I am a summer girl at heart.

16–How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

With friends and family just hanging out. No big deal.

17–What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?

After Life with Ricky Gervais. It’s hilarious and poignant and wonderful.

18–What’s your favorite type of cuisine?

Same as above—Italian or Mexican.

19–What do you do when you have free time?

Hang with friends and family, enjoy my boat in the summer, watch TV and read.

20–What can readers expect from you next?

I have a bunch of books coming this year. All of these are up for preorder at www.marieforce.com

Someone Like You

Roni
After I suddenly lose my husband, Patrick, in a senseless shooting, I’m lost in a sea of well-meaning people trying to make the unimaginable seem possible. How am I supposed to go on without the man who’s been at the center of my life for nearly a decade? My friends and family do what they can for me, but I quickly realize that surviving this loss is going to be on me. One day to the next, I have to make the decision to go on, but life isn’t done throwing me ringers, and just when I think I’ve got this young widow game figured out, I find out how wrong I am. When a friend of my sister’s connects me to the Wild Widows, I find a group of fellow travelers who understand my new reality in a way no one else in my life ever could. The Wild Widows have one requirement for membership to their group—I must be open to the possibility of a Chapter 2, which is what they call a second chance at love. While I’m not in any way looking for or ready for a Chapter 2, if I’ve learned anything it’s that I’m not in control of where this journey will take me.

Come along as Roni and the other Wild Widows navigate their new realities with grace, humor and compassion. They will make you laugh and cry and root for each and every one of them in this exciting, heartfelt new series from New York Times bestselling author Marie Force.
