Book Title: ONE OF US KNOWS

Character Name: Bad Day System (Members: Ken, Solomon, Della, Empress, Keke, Mesmer, Lurk)

How would you describe your family or your childhood?

Ken: ADHD means I have a Swiss cheese memory and the amnesia from dissociative identity disorder makes it a thousand times worse. I don’t remember much of my childhood beyond getting in fights with classmates and disappointing my parents.

Solomon: They weren’t disappointed, just worried.

Keke: Don’t be sad, Ken. Mommy and daddy loved us very much.

Ken: I’m not sad.

What’s your greatest talent?

Solomon: Drawing and design for me, painting and conceptualizing for Ken.

Ken: I used to think it was art, but we all know that isn’t true, so I guess the ability to spectacularly f*ck everything up.

Empress: My greatest talent is drawing spectacular eff-ing in my NSFW furry art commissions; kinda the same thing, right?

Significant other?

Solomon: Yes?

Ken: NO.

Mesmer: It’s complicated.

Biggest challenge in relationships?

Empress: The fact that I’m a teenager, but my body is a 37-year-old woman.

Ken: Having a bunch of squatters in my brain judging me for trying to have some fun.

Solomon:  communication.

Della: Ken being a hussy.

Ken: See what I mean? And I prefer harlot, actually.

Where do you live?

Keke: In a big castle, inside of our mind!

Mesmer: In an apartment in New York, but the landlord is trying to force us out.

Solomon: Both.

Do you have any enemies?

Ken: Too many to count. Della is my biggest hater, though. She thinks she’s so perfect because she can remember to pay bills on time.

Della: Ken. She will never just do the right thing.

Lurk: I like everybody.

Do you have children, pets, both, or neither?

Keke: I want a puppy! Can we have a puppy?

Greatest disappointment?

Empress: That there’s only one season of That Time I Fell Into A Sinkhole (And In Love With A Goblin).

Ken: Waking up.

Greatest source of joy?

Solomon: Walking at night when everything is quiet and calm.

Empress: Are you sure it isn’t Ken?

Solomon:  Enough of that, Empress.

Keke: When everyone is together!

What do you do to entertain yourself or have fun?

Mesmer: Meditate and practice deep breathing.

Della: Design spreadsheets in Excel.

Keke: Read to puppies at the shelter!

Lurk: Stare into the distance.

What keeps you awake at night?

Ken: Solomon going for walks and making me think I had sleepwalking issues.

Solomon: Walks are good for mental and physical health.

Della: Our neighbor coughing echoing through the HVAC.

What is the most pressing problem you have at the moment?

Ken: After being dormant for six years, I’ve woken up to find that we have a job as a caretaker of some historical home on an island, and worse, the annoying headmate who set everything up has disappeared. Oh, and apparently there’s some kind of goddamned plague? Great. Just f#cking great.

ONE OF US KNOWS by Alyssa Cole

One of Us Knows

From the critically acclaimed and New York Times bestselling author of When No One Is Watching comes a riveting thriller about the new caretaker of a historic estate who finds herself trapped on an island with a murderer—and the ghosts of her past.

Years after a breakdown and a diagnosis of dissociative identity disorder derailed her historical preservationist career, Kenetria Nash and her alters have been given a second chance they can’t refuse: a position as resident caretaker of a historic home. Having been dormant for years, Ken has no idea what led them to this isolated Hudson River island, but she’s determined not to ruin their opportunity.

Then a surprise visit from the home’s conservation trust just as a Nor’easter bears down on the island disrupts her newfound life, leaving Ken trapped with a group of possibly dangerous strangers—including the man who brought her life tumbling down years earlier. When he turns up dead, Ken is the prime suspect.

Caught in a web of secrets and in a race against time, Ken and her alters must band together to prove their innocence and discover the truth of Kavanaugh Island—and their own past—or they risk losing not only their future, but their life.
