2–What’s the “elevator pitch” for your new book?
The Duke of Stonerick’s mother never misses an opportunity to nip at his heels that he needs an heir. Until recently, that never bothered him. During a bout of a recurring fever, Rick’s mother gives him a list of the young ladies making their debut. Without thinking, he closes his eyes, runs his finger down the names and by chance stops on Miss Edwina Fine. How can he go wrong with this lady? He loves the taste of fine brandy, the feel of fine wool, and the speed of a fine thoroughbred. He quickly writes a letter asking her to marry him and hands it to his mother to mail; not believing for a second, she will do just that.
Edwina fine assumes she will do reasonably well at the upcoming Season’s marriage mart, even with red hair and green eyes. The wrinkle is that she doesn’t need a husband, she needs three. Born the youngest, even if only by minutes, Edwina is the most sensible of Sir Dudley’s Fine’s triplets. Edwina promises to fulfill her father’s dying wish of seeing his daughters find suitable men to marry. That task seems difficult until she receives a letter from the Duke of Stonerick asking her to marry him. She will accept – if he agrees to find her sisters’ husbands.
Rick thinks finding Edwina’s sisters’ husbands will be a piece of cake. He is a duke after all. But there are a few complications he didn’t expect. With all the qualities Rick enjoys about Edwina, an air of intoxicating mystery surrounds her that she keeps hidden. He is willing to wait to find out everything about her. A little mystery concerning a lady he is going to spend the rest of his life with is a good thing.
3–How did you decide where your book was going to take place?
All my books are set in Regency England. Sincerely, The Duke takes place in London during springtime.
4–Would you hang out with your heroine in real life?
Of course. Edwina is exceptionally brave, strong-minded, and loyal.
5–What are three words that describe your hero?
Strength, vitality, protective.
6–What’s something you learned while writing this book?
There is no known written record that I could find of triplets being born and living to adulthood before the 1840s.
7–Do you edit as you draft or wait until you are totally done?
I do both, but mostly edit as I go. It’s always necessary to do a last read and edit before turning in a book.
8–What’s your favorite foodie indulgence?
Chocolate covered cashews are the best. I keep them in the freezer and eat them sparingly.
9–Describe your writing space/office!
My first desk was the breakfast table with an electric typewriter sitting on it. Now my workspace is in an office at my husband’s office building. My furniture is blond wood. Nothing dark. I want a lot of light. I have a comfortable chair at my desk and a cozy chair by the window where I’ll sit and read over what I’ve written. I have books about carriages, clothing, furniture, etc. on my bookshelf behind my desk. On one wall there are framed copies of my book covers. I happily admit that wall makes for an inspiring place to write.
10–Who is an author you admire?
Kat Martin. I have known her for over twenty-five years. She consistently writes good books year after year. She loves and is dedicated to her readers, family, friends, and everyone in her life.
11–Is there a book that changed your life?
The first romance book I completed. It was never published but it made me realize that I could write a beginning, middle and ending. I’m so glad I finished it. That accomplishment has led to many published books and novellas.
12–Tell us about when you got “the call.” (when you found out your book was going to be published)
That was close to forty books ago. It was such a thrill, and the wonderful thing – it still is.
13–What’s your favorite genre to read?
Inspirational and historical. Not just historical romance but the actual history of events and people.
14–What’s your favorite movie?
Probably Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. It has a good-looking hero who loves only one woman, and for the good of mankind, he fights to uphold justice by breaking the law.
15–What is your favorite season?
Summer. I love to see butterflies, hear bumble bees buzzing about, birds chirping, and bringing fresh flowers from the garden into the house.
16–How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
Dinner at a nice restaurant with my husband and family.
17–What’s a recent tv show/movie/book/podcast you highly recommend?
Cobra Kai series on Netflix. It picks up a story line from an old movie favorite of mine – The Karate Kid. The same actors who played teenagers in the movie are now grown and play themselves in the TV series and they still have a great rivalry going on. It’s fast-paced with plenty of twists and turns, good guys and bad guys, tons of humor and based on the revenge set up in the movie. It’s good family entertainment.
18–What’s your favorite type of cuisine?
I don’t often get to go to one, but I love to dine at French restaurants. I like the fact that most of them serve small portions, and the food is always arranged so beautifully on the plate and usually delicious.
19–What do you do when you have free time?
Relaxing on the balcony of our condo and looking out into the beautiful Gulf of Mexico, going out to dinner with family and friends, traveling to places I’ve never been, and unwinding with my husband on weekends.
20–What can readers expect from you next?
My current series Say I Do. It’s a Regency historical and all three books have a duke as the hero. Though the three dukes know each other and appear in each book, all three story lines are completely different. The first title is, YOURS TRULY, THE DUKE which came out March of 2023. The second, SINCERELY, THE DUKE, will be out March 26, 2024, and the last one, LOVE, THE DUKE, March 2025. All three books are based on the marriage of convenience. Each one opens with the hero writing a letter of proposal to the heroine or as the case in the third book, rejecting a proposal of marriage.
